I had had no experience of Care Homes until my late mum went to live in Gracewell of Kentford for the last three months of her life. I was so impressed by the care and kindness shown to mum that I wanted to write this review. Firstly, the nurses and carers are all highly professional and all my family
had great confidence in them. They all treated mum wonderfully, mindful of her dignity at all times. There was laughter, humour, consideration and flexibility. Every resident is a guest. The manager and staff are clearly determined to create a family atmosphere. Gracewell is like a hotel, with lovely decor, fresh flowers, fun activities and delicious food! Gracewell proved its worth during the pandemic - realising the importance to residents and family of visiting, the staff did absolutely everything they could to ensure we were able to visit mum every day safely. We will be eternally grateful for this. All care homes should be like Gracewell.

Gracewell of Kentford have been absolutely fabulous in looking after my mother in this most challenging of times. When I have been able to see her she has always looked so well. My mother has been resident for over 7 years and when she entered the home was not in a good way. She has received both great
care and attention and the most comforting for me is knowing that the same people have been caring for her over the years. I have only great praise and heart-felt thanks to all the team for looking after her so well.

Gracewell of Kentford provides an excellent service in caring for my mum with her dementia requirements. The staff give a loving and compassionate environment and help to bring out my mum on her bad days and encourage her on her good days.
The food is fantastic, and they adapt this to what the resident
requires.
As a relative, I have always felt included in decisions made for my mum and kept informed on what is happening within the home.
During Covid19 lockdown, their communications were outstanding.

Mum has been a resident at Gracewell since July 2019 and we are so pleased that we chose Gracewell as her care home. I feel that the home provides first-class accommodation while managing to feel ‘homely’. Mum has a bright, sunny room at the front of the building, enabling her to watch all the comings
and goings. Everyone who has visited comments on how clean and fresh the home feels.
The care and support that Mum receives are second to none. She is always treated with dignity and compassion. I can’t fault the dedication of the staff. This has been especially apparent during the Covid 19 crisis when they have gone above and beyond to ensure that Mum is safe and loved.
Gracewell offers a wide variety of activities and residents are encouraged to join in. Mum particularly enjoys the lovely gardens, curling and bingo. There are regular visits from outside entertainers and frequent parties to celebrate special dates.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Gracewell.

My Mum has been a resident at Gracewell since July 2019. Over the past 10 weeks, since visiting has not been possible due to Covid-19, we feel that the care, support and love given to my mum has just been amazing. The introduction of tablets into the home has just been brilliant and this enables my
mum to enjoy video calls most days with one of her daughters or grandchildren which is so beneficial. The drive by event organised yesterday which enabled family members to see their loved ones for the first time in many weeks was truly inspirational and very emotional. A huge thank you to all the staff at Gracewell.

I cannot fault this care home at all. The staff all go above and beyond expectations in their level of care. In these difficult times when we can't visit they have purchased I-Pads and arrange FaceTime slots regularly. Nothing is too much trouble. Always very helpful if contacted by phone. They arrange
so many activities and ensure that all residents are included. I would certainly recommend this home for anyone who is having to make that very difficult decision.

Lovely, clean care home. Staff try to meet all client's wishes and if ever I have had to ask I have always been met with a positive and helpful response. My only worry at present is I wish residents could be helped or encouraged to be in the lovely garden a bit more. I do appreciate that the staff is
doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work.

My mother has nothing but praise for every aspect of care she receives at Kentford and is always saying how lucky we were to find it. The Covid-19 outbreak has tested the resources and competence of so many aspects of life, particularly our care of the elderly, but the staff at Kentford have worked
hard to maintain high standards all round. My mother understands the current situation and yet is not overly anxious about why the family is unable to visit right now. She has made friends with whom she socialises freely and all residents are entertained and kept active where possible. The level of information coming from management during the lockdown has been regular and frequent and is very reassuring. I cannot thank the staff enough for keeping her safe, physically well, and happy. I have every confidence in them to continue to do so as ‘normal’ life resumes. Highly recommended!

During the Covid-19 lockdown, Gracewell of Kentford has performed above and beyond expectations during a very difficult time. Incredibly, and despite the frightening media coverage of Care Homes, I have been able to relax in the knowledge that my relative is safe, happy, and well looked after. The procedures
that were put in place ensured that all relatives were kept informed on a regular basis, video messaging kept relatives and residents in touch with each other and was invaluable to both.
A more suitable home for my very precious relative could not be found and the dedication of the staff is exemplary.

The first thing you notice on entering the home is that it doesn't smell, as sadly some homes do
You are greeted by friendly staff, great atmosphere. The staff are brilliant with residents and family members too, being very kind and aware that it can be very upsetting placing your relative in a home,
not just the day they arrive but later on too.
The food is excellent, my only criticism is that they possibly feed the residents too much. I like taking my mum downstairs for a coffee and quite often there are cakes, biscuits, sweets for all to indulge in.
My mother went in last November and at Christmas time, their Christmas fayre is wonderful.
I took my Grandchildren and Father Christmas gave them a present, They love Great Nanna's home.
There is always activities and entertainment of some kind, often both morning and afternoon. The activities team, in particular, are especially brilliant at getting the residents to join in, whatever their ability is. I can't recommend this home enough.

We have been very happy with the way my mother has been welcomed and integrated into life at Gracewell. The permanent staff are very caring and always find time in their busy schedule to discuss any concerns I have regarding mother.
Unfortunately, she has had quite a few falls during her time here
which I know is of concern to the staff who try their best to ensure her safety. They have been very supportive when she has needed hospital visits.
Recently, I have noticed more agency staff on the wing and know that my mother does miss the friendly faces she has come to know and trust.
Overall Gracewell is proving to be a safe and happy environment for her and so gives me peace of mind.

Overall I would recommend this place. This is the first home my mum has been a resident of; they made the whole process incredibly easy for both my mum and I. The place is neat, tidy and has the appearance of more a hotel than a care home. Food has generally been good. There have been a few teething
issues, but not sure whether this is related to my mum needing to come to terms with her fraility or other issues. I have always found the staff to be pleasant and friendly, and willing to discuss any concerns and address these quickly and with little fuss

My mother was welcomed by the management, staff and care staff and settled into her beautiful room overlooking the garden. She called Gracewell's home from the start. Mummy really enjoyed the variety of food in the bright dining room and when unable to go to the dining room food was taken to her. She
gained muscle strength in her limbs with going up and down the corridor and enjoyed going downstairs and joining in the activities especially music. The send off when Mummy passed was with dignity and love.

The attention to detail given, when it comes to the care each resident- is unbelievable. The carers are kind, gentle, polite and above all respectful to the residents in their care.

When visiting my mum, I am always welcomed in, with lots of smiles, all staff and residents look genuinely pleased

to be there.
Its nicely decorated, the food is very good- with plenty of variety and alternatives on offer if needed... and the opportunity for friends/relatives to join mum for dinner.

The residents have plenty of activities to get involved in if they want to, ranging from Tai Chi to flower arranging, crafts, making bird feeders, visiting entertainers etc etc

I have
recommended this lovely home to many people and often talk of how we enjoy our visits, as you step into reception you are welcomed with a smile, going through into the lounge with coffee and freshly baked cakes is always a "to do", there are choices of varied activities for residents and family to enjoy together, a relaxed comfortable environment for all.

(1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 88 registered maximum number of service users is 17.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I started working at Care UK in 2014 through an agency for Glastonbury Court. I’m proud to have worked my way up, having started in the domestic team, then moved into care and a managerial position as a residential lead at Davers Court, followed by Home Manager roles at Mildenhall Lodge and now Kentford Manor.

I see managing a care home as a privilege. I am very passionate about my role and doing the best for the home, residents, relatives and colleagues. I believe that being open and honest, relatable, reliable and approachable to all groups is very important to achieve the best outcomes for all.

I love working at Kentford Manor because of the challenge of my new role, and I’m excited to build new relationships with the team and, most of all, the lovely residents and families here.

To be successful in this role, you need to have patience, empathy, and an understanding of different residents, staff, and family members. You should be polite, always be there to listen and try to understand every situation through different eyes.

The best part of my job is seeing the residents happy, having fun and being able to live their lives the best they can.

A big passion of mine is football, and I love to spend time with my daughter. We love to watch her dad play football all weekend.
