Lincombe Manor could not have provided better care for our mother during her final days of life. She received the very best care from a dedicated staff. The lead nurse particularly, went over and above. showing love and compassion for both our mother and all her family. That meant so much. During our
mother’s final hours, we were able to be with her with no restrictions, the staff gave us space but also made sure we were fed, gave us free rein of the kitchen and made us feel like we were at home. Our mother loved the nurses and let us know that she was being well cared for. During her last hours she received gentle, kind care and the nurses provided appropriate pain management to ease her pain. We will never forget the staff surrounding her with their heads bowed, at her passing, so respectful! We cannot thank all those who care for her enough. As an old school nurse myself I’m hard to please but I couldn’t fault anything. Truly remarkable.
Another staff member was amazing too, thank you!

My mother went into the home on Boxing Day 2023. The care that she received was so lovely and caring in every way. They would always ensure that her hair was done, washed and clean (she was a very glamorous woman) and dressed if able to receive guests, as she had so many. The respect they showed her
when she passed was perfect and not only did they look after her, they ensured we, the family, were looked after too - thank you all for your love and care.
Reply from Nicola Grace, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreThank you for such a lovely review. It’s wonderful to hear that your experience was one of warmth and kindness. We always go the extra mile to make sure that everyone is made to feel welcome and I am pleased to see our efforts were appreciated by you all. We are very proud of the service we offer and the team will be bursting with pride when they read your kind words. Mum was with us for a short time, but during that time she made a lasting impact on us which we shall be forever grateful for.

I cannot thank the angels enough for their exemplary care/compassion and love to their patient (my niece) to me and other family. She could not have got better love anywhere else especially in her last days. Words are not enough to express my gratitude. You have a 10 recommendation, should be in millions.
Thank you all.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreHow wonderful to hear your experience with us was so positive. We were honored to care for your loved one in the final stages of their life. We couldn't have wished for a nicer family to support whilst going through such a sad time. Lincombe Manor is an exceptionally fantastic care home. My mother has been here for about 3 years. All of the staff have been fantastic and really looked after my mother.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreThat is so lovely to hear. We love looking after Mum. Who would call the bingo each week if Mum wasn't with us? You are a wonderful family and we love welcoming you when you travel so far to visit Mum. It was so nice to see you all recently. I will pass your kind words on to the team and show them how much they are appreciated.

Mum arrived at Hewitt Lodge in April after struggling with her mobility post-hip fracture. Hewitt Lodge is part of the wider Lincombe Manor footprint; same management by the manager, some shared colleagues from Lincombe Manor and the same high standard of recruitment, catering, cleaning, but most importantly
of all, the same incredible standards of care, nursing, empathy, and individualised support.
I cannot speak highly enough of everyone in the manager's team. They are professional, caring, motivated, and care for the mind, body, and spirit.
Those staying at Hewitt Lodge are able to use the public areas and facilities at Lincombe Manor, all of which are well-maintained, elegant, and beautifully furnished.
Hewitt Lodge is unfortunately only a short-term Reablement Centre and in researching Mum’s next short-term move I visited a number of Care and Nursing homes in Torbay. None appear to achieve the top quality standards set by the manager across care, catering, hygiene, and accommodation.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreWow. What a wonderful review. This has made the team so proud. We loved looking after mum and getting to know you as a family. Hewitt do an incredible job in partnership with the NHS ICT team and we have a great success rate for rehabilitation. Your review tells us it works and we thank you for that. We all hope Mum has settled into her new home and is enjoying life to the full.

My mum moved into Lincombe Manor Care Home a few months ago and I couldn't be happier with how her care has taken shape. The staff are so caring and kind, I feel confident that mum is in the safest of hands. The facilities are wonderful, from the afternoon events - which provide essential stimulation
for Mum - to the food, hairdresser and even the laundry; all have 5-star ratings from me.
Management is excellent, being readily available to discuss mum's needs whenever necessary and then, of course, there's the location - sea views are a happy addition to all the other plusses for both the resident and the visitor.
As a regular visitor to Lincombe Manor, I have been made to feel very welcome, as has my dog, which has made visiting Mum all the more enjoyable.
Thank you to all at Lincombe Manor for making my mum's transition to a full-time care home resident a seamlessly happy one.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreHello. What a lovely review. Thank you for all your kind words. My mother has been a resident of Lincombe Manor for over four years and I cannot praise the staff enough. They are always warm, very kind, thoughtful, attentive and enthusiastic with my Mum. Her tea arrives each morning at just the right temperature, they feed her with care and patience and make sure
her favourite radio station is on in her room. Most often, she is enjoying activities upstairs. When I arrived this month, the residents were enjoying the talents of a local harpist playing beautiful music. The communal rooms are lovely, clean and bright with spectacular views.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreYou are so lovely to say such kind things about the team. They are truly committed to delivering person-centred care and your review shows them just how well they do it. We take pride in our well-being programme and tailor it specifically to the residents' choices and preferences. The harpist is a firm favourite and returns monthly by popular demand.

My husband has been here since January. He has severe physical problems and dementia. The nursing care he receives is excellent. All the staff are so kind and caring and always cheerful. The facilities are of a very high standard and the private rooms are very comfortable. There is an excellent range
of social activities almost daily. The food is very good and prepared for residents' individual needs.
I would have preferred to nurse my husband at home but when that was no longer possible, l could not have chosen a better care home.

My aunt broke her ankle and was unable to return to her home, as her mobility is now permanently impaired. She was so lucky to get a placement at Lincoln Manor and her room has a beautiful view of the gardens and the water. The staff are always welcoming and my aunt is full of praise for them too. I
could not wish for her to be in a better place, as it has been hard for auntie to accept that she could not return to her home. A big thank you to all the staff for an excellent standard of care and always with a smile.

My mother, who lived in an apartment next door to the care home, fell and was admitted the same morning into the care home. The Manager was very welcoming and was flexible whilst we saw whether mum recovered enough to return to independent living. She is now a long-term resident at the care home and
they look after her wonderfully well. It is such a relief to know she is safe and cared for by a very professional team.

Every three months my wife takes a room for a few weeks to give us both respite. Before the first stay, I remember asking myself (as surely others do): I wonder if they fully know what they are doing.
It did not take me long to appreciate that the answer was a resounding YES. And what that meant, among
other things, is that I could simply stop worrying about my wife and relax, confident that she was safe and well looked after with great kindness. And in turn that strengthened respite.
Right from the warm greeting from the Receptionist at the door, one knows that this is a place where residents and visitors will be made welcome and treated as friends and that is worth so much. I would have no qualms in recommending Lincombe Manor both for long and short stays.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreThat is such a lovely review. We know how difficult is was for you in the beginning but now it's like a well-oiled machine. We know you both so well it's like having family to stay. I am pleased to hear you get some rest and relaxation whilst we take care of your lovely wife. On her next stay I must send you some pictures of her enjoying our wide range of activities as she loves to try new things as well as her favorites such as a bit of rock and roll and pub games. Looking forward to seeing you both soon.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.835)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.835) out of 10 for Lincombe Manor Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.835 for Lincombe Manor Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (441 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 497 Ratings = 4.835
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lincombe Manor Care Centre is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2024

I was appointed as General Manager of Lincombe Manor Care Centre in January 2024. I qualified as a General Nurse in January 2003 after completing my training in Exeter with the University of Plymouth. I remained in Exeter, working at The Nuffield Hospital as a junior nurse and at The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. I then joined the care sector which led me towards working as a Clinical Care Manager with Elizabeth Finn Homes for 10 years, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Away from work, I live in Exeter with my husband and two children, Freya and Harrison. I enjoy horse riding, walking my two dogs and holidaying with my family.
