My mum came to Lincombe Manor in August 2019; it was an immensely difficult and emotional decision.
We cannot thank or praise the staff enough for their commitment, kindness and care towards my mum and for welcoming us all.
We know Mum is being well cared for; she is safe and takes part in activities
which are so reassuring.
I would not have my mum looked after by anyone else. They are a team of very skilled and dedicated people who go above and beyond. Above all, Mum is settled and content; what better measure is there?
Grateful thanks to you all.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreWhat a wonderful review. It makes us quite emotional to hear how much you value our care and how happy Mum is living with us. I know it was such a difficult decision and I am thrilled that we have managed to meet all of your expectations and give you and Mum peace of mind.

This is a lovely care home and my mother was treated with the utmost kindness and compassion. Her dying days were also spent at the home and all the staff delivered exemplary care which I am sure contributed to a peaceful ending for Mum. She was always content living there and I was ever-present, often
advocating on her behalf. Any requirements and requests were always carried out and welcomed by the staff. The only criticism I have is the lack of visitor car spaces in immediate proximity to the site. This did not personally affect me, however, as I was happy to park a small distance away where spaces could be readily found.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreThank you so much for your kind words. We very much miss you and your mother. The home is not the same without you both. It pleases me greatly that you were content with Mum's care. The team take great pride in the quality of the service they deliver and I will make sure they all know how appreciative you are of them. I cannot disagree in any way with your parking critique. It is the only negative aspect of the care centre but with the super golf buggies we own to zip people up and down the hill, it does make it slightly easier for those who need a bit of help reaching our front door.

My dad had Parkinson's disease with complex needs, every single member of staff at Lincombe Manor was incredible and they treated my dad so wonderfully with dignity and respect. The care was outstanding, they made myself and my family welcome at any time ensuring my dad's last months were full of love
and laughter and kindness. I can never praise and thank everyone there enough.

My husband has Parkinson's disease in the later stages. He was only in Lincombe Manor for 1-week respite care. I cannot thank the staff enough for the care he was given. They are a fantastic team. Everyone you see has a smile for you and makes you feel that nothing is too much trouble. I would have
no fear placing him in Lincombe Manor again. The only problem is parking but we managed.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreThank you so much for your lovely review. My team enjoyed every aspect of caring for your husband and we would welcome him back any time you may need our help. I agree with you that our only negative is the parking situation but hopefully, the care your husband received supersedes the frustrations of our parking situation. Please give our best wishes to your husband and tell him the team miss him dearly.

My family and I are immensely grateful to Lincombe Manor Care Centre for their kindness, high level of professional care and attention to detail shown to my dear wife throughout her 2 and a half year stay.
In addition, their thoughtfulness and genuine concern for my personal wellbeing during this
difficult period was hugely supportive.
Individual dignity and privacy was always respected, which played an important role in making the experience as positive as possible.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreThank you for your lovely words. You and your wife are deeply missed by everybody living and working at Lincombe Manor. Mum arrived from hospital for respite following a broken pelvis. She was in great pain and very anxious. The staff at Lincombe Manor were very welcoming and warm and friendly. She grew in confidence as the staff helped and encouraged her walking. She also grew around the stomach as the food was second
to none. I would like to say an enormous thank you to all the staff and wouldn't think twice to bring mum back should she need more respite in the future.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreThank you for such a wonderful review. We do hope Mum is doing well at home. It was always her goal to regain her independence and we are so pleased we could help her achieve it. Mum is welcome anytime at Lincombe Manor not only for respite but for any of our activities or a lovely lunch and catch up with old friends. Give her our love we miss her cheerfulness.

My 'second mum' stayed at the care home for four months after a short spell in hospital, and because she was no longer able to be cared for appropriately at home. She was very well looked after and her needs were fully met. She especially enjoyed the food! The staff were lovely and clearly did their
best to make her feel comfortable and loved. It was a shame that she was not sufficiently well enough to enjoy all the education and entertainments that were put on in the home, or indeed, the magnificent surroundings. As visitors, the facilities were excellent as was the hospitality.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, General Manager at Lincombe Manor Care CentreIt was our pleasure to look after "second Mum". We miss her every day. Thank you from all the team for the lovely card last week showing us where "Mum" is living. It gave us all a lot of pleasure reading your kind words. Our Team are always very proud to hear that all their hard work and efforts are appreciated by families and loved ones. We all hope "Mum" has settled in to her new home and is happy to have you close by.

I have visited many care home, both as a relative and as a volunteer with a local charity. Many were found wanting in their standards of care. Lincombe Manor meets all the criteria of an excellent care home. All the staff were wonderful, where nothing was too much trouble. Nutritious, home cooked food,
a clean bright environment and attention to detail was apparent everywhere. After my weeks of respite care I will, thankfully, leave refreshed in body and spirit.

My husband has just had a very happy week's respite at Lincombe Manor. He is disabled with advanced Parkinson's Disease but still has full mental capacity and his needs were catered for perfectly. We have never come across such friendly and caring staff and would not hesitate to recommend it as a care
home of excellent. If he's happy, I'm happy - which means I can have some much needed Rest and Recuperation with complete peace of mind. Thank you one and all at Lincombe Manor - we'll be back!

My father lived in Lincombe Manor just short of a month. He came for respite care but his heart was failing which was having an effect on his independent lifestyle. I cannot express how wonderful all the staff were from the first enquiry until we came to say our farewells.
The place is everything a
care home should be - professional, clean, caring and excellent, kind staff.
Above all, the place is run with a 'resident first' mindset. It is rare to find such high standards and exceptional service in this sector.
My sister and I are so grateful that our beloved father passed in a safe, dignified environment.

My Grannie was 93 when she had 5 mini strokes, after 3 weeks in hospital she went to Lincombe Manor. The nurses were fabulous and got her eating some food (which we never thought would happen), her quality of life in her last days increased ten fold and we are very grateful to everyone who worked there
who looked after her. Everything was thought about, even small things like washing her hair which she would have enjoyed so much. The Manor is beautiful and so clean and tidy. Thank you for looking after her so well. I would 100% recommend.

My mother aged 91, originally came to stay at Lincombe Manor Care Centre in June 2017 for a month's holiday. Leaving behind her own flat and the assistance of 2 carers - 4 times a day. However, after experiencing the care, support and quality of life that Lincombe Manor Care Centre offers, she did not
want to go home. Seven months later, my mum is thriving in the wonderful environment. I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff who work there. They treat her as an individual and with dignity. Nothing is too much trouble. I visit my mum at least 3 or 4 times a week and in all those visits, I have never found anything to cause any concern at all. In the reception area, it says 'Welcome to our home' and that is what it is. When mum first came here, I never envisaged the difference the love, care and support of this wonderful team could make to mum's life. She has a quality of life now and so enjoys the entertainment that they bring in-house and opportunities to go out.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.835)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.835) out of 10 for Lincombe Manor Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.835 for Lincombe Manor Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (441 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 497 Ratings = 4.835
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lincombe Manor Care Centre is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2024

I was appointed as General Manager of Lincombe Manor Care Centre in January 2024. I qualified as a General Nurse in January 2003 after completing my training in Exeter with the University of Plymouth. I remained in Exeter, working at The Nuffield Hospital as a junior nurse and at The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. I then joined the care sector which led me towards working as a Clinical Care Manager with Elizabeth Finn Homes for 10 years, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Away from work, I live in Exeter with my husband and two children, Freya and Harrison. I enjoy horse riding, walking my two dogs and holidaying with my family.

Job Title: Clinical Lead Nurse Joined: 2017

My name is Helen, and I am the Clinical Lead RN here at Lincombe Manor Care Centre. I began my nurse training in 1985, starting in hospital settings in Herefordshire, Lincolnshire and South Devon. I have always felt very blessed to be able to find a career which I feel so proud and passionate about.

I relocated back to South Devon from Lincolnshire in 2017, which is when I began my journey at Lincombe Manor Care Centre, progressing in my role from RN, to Senior RN and becoming Clinical lead in 2024.

Away from work, I enjoy walking in beautiful Devon. I love nature and its vast variety of birds and animals. That said, I am equally happy to sit in a café with a good book and a latte, on a rainy day.
