Professional staff offer friendly and expert care to those with residential, dementia needs or short-term respite needs.

My mum has been under the care of Acer House for the past couple of months and I couldn't be more pleased.
The staff have been very helpful, caring and empathetic to my mum and supportive in every way.
The admin staff and the other reception team are most welcoming and assist in any way they can;
going above and beyond my expectations.
The Medical staff have been great, as have two members of staff who have both been encouraging my mum to join activities and walk around their delightful grounds.
Mum says her food is enjoyable and plentiful.

Mum was unwell and wanted to go in Acer House. The staff were very understanding of the urgency and managed to get mum in swiftly and safely.


A week after mum was unwell, she had a raised temperature which the staff spotted quickly and treated. She then had an accidental fall and the team were there

very quickly to support.


Each time I was informed,


I also attended a couple of days ago and did not pass anyone on the desk in reception but had signed in. I took mum into the garden and went to get us a drink. The staff has already noticed mum had left her room and were out looking for her which was very reassuring as it had only been a couple of minutes.


They are always friendly and communicate to me what is going on and encourage mum to participate and leave her room to join in.

I am delighted to be moved to write a second review of Acer Car Home


My cousin has been in residence for nearly a year and everything has gone amazingly well. She was made
to feel completely welcome and the staff have been most caring and proficient. A couple of emergencies
were speedily and

competently dealt with and we look to the future with optimism. Amazingly her main
health condition of Lympodoema has improved enormously now that she is getting skilled and expert
care.


The activities and facilities on offer are wonderful and the gardens and rooms first class.

My mum has been a resident for just over 8 months. During that time I have continually witnessed mum being cared for with kindness, affection & respect. Altzheimers is a difficult condition to work with, even when mum is placid & never gets aggressive; all the staff have consistently demonstrated patience,
a cajoling manner & a great understanding of each individual resident's needs. Mum always looks clean & well cared for. All the staff are very friendly, caring to talk to, willing to listen & are proactive in giving updates. Nothing is too much trouble for the team at Acer House- everyone plays a role in the health & wellbeing of the residents.


On my last visit, the General Manager met with my brother & I to discuss mum's worsening symptoms as her condition advances. My brother & I have been aware of these over the last 6 weeks or so. The General Manager was extremely knowledgeable & showed great empathy; we trust the General Manager's judgement regarding what is best for mum's needs.

I'm very happy here since I first arrived in January 2025 I've been treated with respect and am well informed of things related to me. The staff are all so fantastic. They work so hard and nothing is too much trouble for them. Acer House is kept so clean and does not smell.

My mum moved to Acer house in January 2024 from her previous care home and I wanted to take the opportunity to say how pleased I am with the care mum has received since moving in. Every member of staff without exception are always on hand to help and assist with all the carer my mum requires, they are
always cheery and polite and go the extra mile to help. Everywhere is always clean and tidy and there are plenty of things for my mum to do. I would happily recommend Acer House, in fact I already have.

Acer House, run by Avery Care Homes, continues to give amazing service. There is always plenty of staff on duty, who all demonstrate the utmost care and concern for my friend who is an inmate.
The staff are wonderful and the fabric of the care home is excellent, as is the cleanliness.

I had recent cause for concern as my Mother had received contact from a close relative who has for many years tried to disrupt Mum's life using coercive tactics to control my Mum. My Mum had only been in Acer House for 5 months but was happy and adapted well. This relative had been recently contacting
my Mum without my knowledge, but thankfully due to the robust management protocol. The manager stopped this in its tracks. Ensuring all possible efforts and strategies are used to safeguard my Mum. This is an absolutely emphatic response, which I am most grateful for, as my mum well well-being is paramount.

My mother has been a resident of Acer House for 10 years. We celebrated her 100th birthday on 31st May.
The management and staff were magnificent in their support of celebrating the event with 20 members of our family.
It was very typical of the care, love and support Mum has received, firstly as
a self-funder, now with local authority support. We cannot speak highly enough of the care provided by Acer House.

As usual, the staff have been excellent in their dealings with Dad and my brother and I. Nothing is too much trouble. We are kept in touch with what is going on regularly and they try and get him to take part in as many activities as they can. He can be very obstinate! It is a great comfort to know
he is being well looked after

Mum has been at Acer House for nearly 3 years now, and in this time she has received excellent care from all the staff. She enjoys chatting with residents and staff alike, whether during the well-provided meal times, or relaxing in the comfortable surroundings. There is so much provision for wellbeing,
with the choice to join in the excellent activities; Mum especially enjoys singing! This is Mum's home now, and as her health changes I know we will get the support we both need, we are so grateful to be part of this family.

The care team at Acer always go above and beyond for Mum. She’s had a stay in hospital and the team have kept in contact and supported her in hospital making sure the care she receives is in her best interests and supporting me with a plan to get her back ‘home’ asap! Really feel we are one team looking

Following a stroke in December we had to move Mum into care and chose Acer House.
We've been very pleased by the care and attention Mum has received from a prompt discharge from hospital to her ongoing care.
Due to her dementia she is not always pleased to see us and also as I live 5 hours drive away
I really value the social media page which often has pictures of her enjoying activities and engaging with staff and other residents.

Always a pleasure visiting our great-auntie.
Nice to be offered a hot drink. Home is welcoming, clean and smells fresh. Staff friendly. Has the ambience of a nice hotel!

My mother-in-law continues to enjoy all the encouragement, support and care provided by the team at Acer House. Despite her regular return to the hospital, the team can't do enough, visiting her and looking out for her. She could not be happier now she is back in her home, making the most of the activities
and fabulous food.

Acer House does put the care in the care home. Dad has excellent care, and the staff are always happy, friendly, and go the extra mile to help. They are particularly accommodating during my visits and are brilliant at communicating with me especially as I’m 4k miles away!
He has been at Acer House
for three years now and he is in better health and more content than ever. Dad is such a dapper chap and he is always dressed in smart, clean clothes. He enjoys the food and looks well-fed.
The home manager is exceptional! As are all the staff.

Sam Ealden

Hello, my name is Sam, and I am delighted to be the Home Manager here at Acer House.


I have 20 years of experience within the healthcare sector and have achieved qualifications including Levels 2, 3, and 5 Health and Social Care Diplomas, PTTLS Level 3, and Level 3 Health and Safety. Working in residential and nursing settings, I have been lucky enough to have a variety of roles including, a Carer/Senior Carer, Home trainer, Housekeeping, Chef, Activities Co-ordinator, and Deputy Manager, gaining plenty of experience and valuable skills.


Within this time, I have shared many treasurable moments with the residents I have had the pleasure to meet along the way. One moment that I will cherish throughout my career was when I had the privilege to be taught how to knit by a very skilful resident living with dementia. It is such a great talent to withhold, and you will now often find me trying to join in with our knit-and-natter club.


I would best describe myself as someone who is very passionate, determined, and strong-minded. In my spare time, I spend most weekends cheering my son on from the sidelines at his football matches and love relaxing in the garden with my family.

Kirsty has been with Acer House since late 2019. She initially started as a senior carer and after 18months became the Deputy Manager. Following a short break from the role, she has returned to her position and brings with her almost 20 years of experience working in the health and social care sector. Kirsty is passionate and driven, supporting the smooth running of the home.


In her spare time, she loves nothing more than spending time with her beautiful granddaughter and her loyal dog.

Jackie joined the team as a senior carer in 2019, having already worked at Acer House for some time in the culinary department. Jackie supports the Ashcombe Suite community and is a strong leader, ensuring the best possible outcomes for the residents living within the community.


In her spare time, Jackie goes for mini breaks with her husband to explore the UK countryside or spend time with her wonderful grandchildren.

Lindy is often heard laughing and chatting with our community and is a kind, compassionate member of the team with a fantastic knowledge of the home, facilities and services provided within the home.

Sandra enjoys puzzles and is often found sat with residents engaging in activities or being supported with her daily tasks by helpers living within the home.

Job Title: Massage therapist Joined: 2023

Joanna Porter is a medically trained Complementary therapist.


In 2013, she qualified at Weston College with a level 3 in Indian Head Massage with a grade distinction. Jo then went on to become a self-employed mobile holistic therapist visiting the elderly and the sick in their place of care. Also, in 2017, Jo achieved a level 3 and 4 in Complementary therapy at Ashley Down College in Bristol with a grade distinction. The courses Jo covered were Swedish body massage, Aromatherapy and Reflexology at an advanced level, also Deep tissue massage, Hot Stone therapy, Pregnancy massage and Sports and Remedial massage.


In 2021, Jo went on to achieve a Level 4 Diploma in Oncology massage. This qualification has helped her treat those who are dealing with all types of Cancer at all different stages of their illness.


Jo visits Acer House once a week on a Thursday to offer holistic therapy and massage to the residents, their families and staff. Her service is chargeable; however, she has very competitive rates and can be found in the spa treatment room
