My Mum, who’s had vascular dementia for 10 years, was at Acer House in Weston-super-Mare from Oct 2019 to Sept 2020, and this is to give my unreserved praise to, the manager, and her staff for their work before and during lockdown. Before March, the excellent care was bolstered still further by various
activities to help keep people’s mental faculties alive, and during lockdown, the staff have done an excellent job at keeping the home 100% Covid-free. Inevitably though, recent months have presented fresh challenges for mental health, and while regular Skype calls have been arranged, sadly Mum’s dementia is such that she never really understood what she was experiencing. In that regard, I do feel that Acer’s parent company needs to get more creative about how to support the mental, as well as physical wellbeing of the people in their care, although as for Acer House specifically, I continue to have nothing but praise for the care, support and expertise provided by the manager and her team.

I don't know where to start. Before lockdown, the home, in my opinion, was run to an excellent standard. The care, the friendliness of the staff - fantastic. The cleaners, the ladies who do the laundry, the hostess who my husband calls the 'cake lady' - all contribute to the running of the home. I've
no doubt, that during lockdown, anything has changed except the carers have worked even harder to occupy the residents where there has been no visiting. Well done Acer House.

The staff at Acer House are always kind and caring. They go above and beyond to make residents happy and safe. While in lockdown the staff helped my husband with video calls so I could speak to him. I have been informed of all the precautions that have been put in place from the beginning.

We have always found the caring staff very competent, caring and willing. We have always found the cleaning standards to be very high throughout the whole area. Catering looks to be a good standard.
The management do not seem to be very approachable and are quite distant, and have been changed 5 times
in 4 years. The garden area needs updating as it seems to have been ignored, having said that, the home has a nice warm, friendly atmosphere and we always feel welcomed by all.

Acer House has provided the most amazing care, especially during the Covid-19 outbreak. They have gone above and beyond; I could not have asked for more with the care they have all given to my dad. I can not thank them enough. It is a real comfort to know he is well looked after.
"Many, many heartfelt
thanks to all the staff".

My father has been living at Acer for the last nine months. The care he has received has been excellent. Both his physical and mental well-being are catered for. The food prepared is tasty and plentiful. The staff members we have dealt with have been very caring and thoughtful. We have absolutely
no issues with any aspect of the care provided. We feel very relaxed knowing he is receiving first-class care.

I have visited Acer House on a number of occasions to see my aunty and as I walk through the reception area I always think I am walking into a 5 star hotel environment. The only way you can see it is not, are the fact that there are lots of staff in nursing type uniform. It's always clean and tidy and
all of the staff are friendly. I can only say it is a purpose-built care home with happy residents, in fact, I could live there myself.

I came to Acer House for a holiday/respite. From the very first few moments walking through the front door, I was made to feel extremely welcomed. I have found all the staff from office to all the way through the different departments so lovely, professional, caring and friendly. Everybody is "at the
top of their game".
My room is so spacious and kept to the highest standard.
The meals I have had are really nice and tasty. I could tell that a lot of thought had gone in the planning of the menu. The carers are the best I have come across. So willing to please, nothing is too much trouble. So professional, that goes to all staff that are helping to run this exceptional home.

My mother arrived at Acer House in May 2016 and from that day has been treated with the utmost care from staff.
The Manager and Deputy were so kind in contributing towards arranging Moms arrival to her room and assistance in helping her to settle, which was not easy.
Any concerns with Moms health
have always been addressed by staff, i.e.contacting Doctors, Community Nurses etc.
Always plenty of interesting activities and good standard entertainment always set up by the Activities manager who also excels in her work.

It was nice to see Dad relaxed amongst other people, being happy, enjoying his meals in pleasant surroundings. Nice to know that at any time we could come and see him, or take him out for the day knowing that he slept well and could be interactive if he wanted to. Many thanks to all staff for making
Dad's stay as pleasant as could be.

Before moving to Acer House Care Home, my mother living at home was often scared, frightened, not eating well and despite as much family involvement as we could manage, generally unhappy. Now Mother is relaxed, enjoys painting, has begun knitting again after many years, is eating well and reports to
me (her daughter) that all the staff are very kind and helpful to her. She now smiles a lot and enjoys laughing and joking with other staff and residents.

My mother has been a resident in Acer House Care Home for four and a half years, initially with my father who died in the home in February 2015 having been wonderfully cared for by the staff. I feel so lucky to have had such fantastic care provided for my parents. I visit three times a week and it is
reassuring to see how happy my mother is in Acer House. I have never had a significant issue with the level of care. The staff are amazing, managers, carers and domestic they all do a great job.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.870) out of 10 for Acer House Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.870 for Acer House Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (280 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 308 Ratings = 4.87
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acer House Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have 20 years of experience within the healthcare sector and have achieved qualifications including Levels 2, 3, and 5 Health and Social Care Diplomas, PTTLS Level 3, and Level 3 Health and Safety. Within this time, I have shared many treasurable moments with the residents I have had the pleasure to meet along the way. It is such a great talent to withhold, and you will now often find me trying to join in with our knit-and-natter club.

I would best describe myself as someone who is very passionate, determined, and strong-minded. In my spare time, I spend most weekends cheering my son on from the sidelines at his football matches and love relaxing in the garden with my family.

Avery Healthcare, owners of Acer House, best stands out for their spacious, luxurious rooms, exceptional well-being programmes and highly trained, dedicated staff. And Acer House is no different.
