My mother-in-law had a short stay (2 1/2 weeks). We were very happy with the care and all the support staff who help to make this home excellent. It is very homely but has 5 star hotel services including the laundry services and excellent food. There are some very good activities for the residents.
We were looked after too. We live 300 miles away, but felt very reassured about the care, including some nursing tasks (dressings) were all carried out to a high standard.

What an excellent care home! We needed an emergency respite service for Mum after her fall and two days in A&E/hospital. The staff team pulled out all the stops to get Mum assessed, organised and installed all within a few hours. The focus of attention was Mum and meeting all her needs. The team also
ensured we were well looked after. The home has been outstanding!

The home is immaculate with a very comfortable hotel-style reception area - leading out to spacious and extremely clean rooms. There is a varied menu - the food is first class and beautifully presented. We have found every staff member, regardless of position, to be kind, courteous, friendly and always
extremely helpful. Any minor problems have been immediately rectified. A Parkinson's patient requires a regular to live to, which is applied here - keeping my husband happy and stress free.
Reply from April King, Home Manager at Newstone HouseThank you for your lovely feedback. My mother has now been a permanent resident in Newstone House for four and a half years, having previously spent many respite breaks there which enabled her to get to know the home and vice-versa. She has recently moved upstairs to the home's dedicated dementia care floor where there are plenty of activities
to keep the residents stimulated with, for example, minibus trips out and visiting musicians, which my mother especially likes. The staff will always go the extra mile - in my mother's case it was taking her swimming. Whenever I visit I always feel welcome and should I have any concerns they can be raised and addressed there and then. My mother is happy there and I know that she is safe and being looked after which is a weight off my mind as I get no younger.
Reply from April King, Home Manager at Newstone HouseThank you for your kind review. It's lovely to hear how settled your mother is at Newstone House and how much she enjoys the activities and personal touches from the team. Knowing you feel welcomed, listened to, and reassured means a great deal to us all.

My mum was only at Newstone House for four months but in that time the care she received there was absolutely outstanding. All the staff were so kind and caring, treating mum with great dignity especially in her final days as well as taking great care of us, her family, too. I cannot express in words
how grateful I am to all who looked after her during her time there. This is a very special place and I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking for the right place for their loved one.

My Mum was cared for at Newstone for 14 months.
She was in late stages of Alzheimer's, with barely any mobility so she required a lot of nursing care and Newstone staff were simply incredible. Mum was so well cared for , the personal care and social care were excellent , food was of a high standard
and nothing was too much trouble
I visited several times most weeks so feel I had a fair insight into the running of the Home.
I would be very confident to recommend Newstone to any family trying to select a Care Home for their elderly relative.

I was very pleased to be able to spend four weeks in Newstone House recovering from a total hip replacement. The staff were very friendly, helpful and caring. The food was delicious and the residents were very friendly. I enjoyed the daily programme of events and the outings looked interesting but I
wasn't able to partake in them. I had some friends round for afternoon tea and we were catered for admirably.

Excellent care and good attention to needs. Sometimes in the busy mornings and evenings staff are very busy and need more help, but they are all very kind and look after me well.
There is a wide variety of enjoyable activities to choose from every day. I enjoy the singing, quizzes, artwork, and a
mix of nice characters to talk to. There are regular outings, in the minibus, which makes a nice change.

I came to Newstone House originally for respite to recover from a fall. I was immediately made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. My family and I soon realised that I would need the help so I decided to stay. This is a decision I have never regretted.
The help is always there,
given with a smile. There are plenty of activities planned for us if we wish to take part. They keep us on our toes, both mentally and physically.
We are very well fed with a good choice of options.
My visitors, both family and friends, always comment how welcoming it is and how they are always met with a greeting and a smile.

It was the first time I had visited my friend since he was admitted to the Care Home needing 24-hour care after becoming very ill with a long-term illness. I was amazed at the change. He looked so much better, less agitated and pain-free in a beautiful room that was sunny and peaceful. Staff I had contact
with were friendly and helpful and made me very welcome.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.992)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.992) out of 10 for Newstone House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.992 for Newstone House is calculated as follows: ( (247 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 249 Ratings = 4.992
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Newstone House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
