Newstone House is located in the ancient market town of Sturminster Newton and comprises of six house groups over three floors.

Residents enjoy companionship and can join in with singing, music, exercise and arts and crafts sessions. There is the opportunity for gentle gardening activities in the summer sunshine.

The home is registered for nursing care and staffed by dedicated nurses and health care professionals with extensive experience in caring for age-related conditions and fully trained in infection control.

In each house group, there are en-suite bedrooms, a bathroom with specialised bathing facilities, a comfortably furnished sitting area where residents can relax and chat with family and friends, a kitchenette and dining area, and each house group has a dedicated care staff team.

On the ground floor, there is a coffee bar, lounge and dining room with patio doors leading out to the garden. The ground floor also accommodates the hairdressing salon, and a cinema.

The first floor has been designed to support residents with dementia. Specialist features have been integrated to assist residents with memory loss to orientate themselves, whilst enabling them to retain their independence in a secure and welcoming environment. Many bedrooms overlook the gardens or the surrounding countryside. There is also a café with a secure roof terrace and a quiet lounge on this floor.

On the second floor, there are five spacious en-suite bedrooms with a communal lounge, and a suite that can accommodate couples.

Having my husband in Newstone House gives me complete peace of mind that he is in the very best nursing/care environment and his every need is taken care of.
Every effort is made to ensure residents live in a happy, safe and extremely caring environment with well thought out and stimulating activities.

My mother was made as comfortable as possible for the last few days of her life. Her stay at Newstone House was brief and we found all aspects of our dealings there to be excellent.

I am both delighted and impressed by every aspect of the care my mother has received at Newstone House. The staff are, without exception, wonderful. I so appreciate and am grateful for their kindness and thoughtfulness. The support they have also given me, as a relative, has made a great difference
and helped me throughout my mother's time here.

My mum was very happy and well cared for the whole time she was at Newstone House. But the care she received in her final two weeks was exceptional. Everyone connected with mum went above and beyond the call of duty looking after not only her but the family as well. We cannot thank you enough.

My dad had a tragically short stay at Newstone House at what turned out to be the end of his life. The care he received was excellent and the way that the staff managed his last few days and hours was outstanding - caring, respectful, thoughtful. They were incredibly supportive of me too and in a way,
I felt that dad and I were at home. The help and support for advanced planning was very good and the so last few hours of his life were not ruined by having to make any awful decisions.
Just can't thank them enough.

Colten Care in Sturminster Newton is a wonderfully well-run home. The staff are very friendly, the home is clean and the management are approachable and always around to talk about wishes and concerns.
Our mum has settled well for respite and we are able to relax when she is there as I have total trust
that she is getting the best care possible.

My mother has gone from strength to strength since residing at Newstone House. She moved to Newstone following a fall at her home in 2015. Her injuries coupled with her growing dementia made it very difficult for her to continue living at home alone.
Her prognosis did not look good.
Now here we are,
two and a half years later; she looks wonderful, she is happy and above all is thriving in the caring environment of Newstone House.
Nothing seems too much trouble and the management and staff are extremely professional. It is a pleasure to visit her at the home, especially to see her joy when participating in arts and crafts.
As my mother often says, she wouldn't want to live anywhere else and I'm 100% happy with that.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.993)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.993) out of 10 for Newstone House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.993 for Newstone House is calculated as follows: ( (295 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 297 Ratings = 4.993
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Newstone House is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
