Newstone House is located in the ancient market town of Sturminster Newton and comprises of six house groups over three floors.

Residents enjoy companionship and can join in with singing, music, exercise and arts and crafts sessions. There is the opportunity for gentle gardening activities in the summer sunshine, and there is a busy pen pal scheme.
The home is registered for nursing care and staffed by dedicated nurses and health care professionals with extensive experience in caring for age-related conditions and fully trained in infection control.

In each house group, there are en-suite bedrooms, a bathroom with specialised bathing facilities, a comfortably furnished sitting area where residents can relax and chat with family and friends, a kitchenette and dining area, and each house group has a dedicated care staff team.

On the ground floor, there is a coffee bar, lounge and dining room with patio doors leading out to the garden. The ground floor also accommodates the hairdressing salon, sun therapy room and a cinema.

The first floor has been designed to support residents with dementia. Specialist features have been integrated to assist residents with memory loss to orientate themselves, whilst enabling them to retain their independence in a secure and welcoming environment. Many bedrooms overlook the gardens or the surrounding countryside. There is also a potting shed with a secure roof terrace and a quiet lounge on this floor.

The level of care extended to my Father was exceptional. All the staff, medical, care, hospitality, activities, cleaning and admin all showed my Dad and indeed our whole family a great deal of affection and respect. Newstone House is a wonderful place for anyone to live, it does not feel like a care
home, it feels like 'home'. You gave my Father great dignity in his last days, right to the end. We were particularly touched by the staff's 'guard of honour' when Dad was collected by the undertaker. Thank you.

I moved my mum to Newstone House in January 2023; after time in hospital and a temporary dementia facility. From the viewing appointment, through the submission phase, through to Mum's arrival took just 3 short weeks. The staff supported and led and comforted throughout. Mum had always fought for her
independence and was against going into 'such a place'. I am so pleased to say that since her arrival at Newstone House, I have my mum back! Clean, happy, funny, singing, dancing, sociable mum. All team members make you feel part of the home; there is nothing you can't discuss with them or with you. The home is spotless, the washing is laundered and back in the rooms overnight, the companions work tirelessly to keep the residents entertained and joining in. Activities mum would never have done before she now joins in and enjoys. The food is exceptional; fresh and tasty and locally sourced. The reception team are a delight welcoming you on arrival and departure. Nursing care is exceptional.

My daughter has Early Onset Alzheimers and was transferred to Newstone House in mid-December. I cannot speak highly enough of the care and kindness she is receiving from the incredibly patient and attentive staff who have made my extended family and me most welcome when we visit. I know my daughter
is receiving the best care and compassionate attention: I can now relax and enjoy seeing her appreciation of her situation, although she is unable to express it herself. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

We were very impressed when we first looked around Newstone House. My mum had lived with us for five years but had increasing nursing needs and we felt it was the right time for her to have high-quality care for her final months. My mum moved into the home in early June 2022 and settled well. She had
always been a very fussy eater - but she loved the food and it was always hot and appetising. We did have some issues with internal communication over the three months she lived at the home but the manager and all staff were always receptive and responsive to any concerns and addressed any issues promptly. Some issues may have been due to staff Covid resulting in a high number of agency staff that didn't know her needs. However, I will always be so grateful to the wonderful staff who cared for her in her final few days, in particular the day she passed away. She was treated so sensitively by such kind and caring staff (as were we). It was definitely the right place for her.

My husband has very complex nursing requirements and Colten Care approached this professionally from the outset before agreeing to take him for respite care. The Home Manager visited us at home to be sure that Newstone House could accommodate his needs and then discussed it with the Clinical Lead. They
undertook some extra training on PEG feeding for staff in readiness. When my husband went into the home for respite care the room was bright and clean. The nursing team gave me confidence that all the medication and nursing requirements would be met and there was a good balance between giving me a break from my caring role (i.e. not contacting me regularly) and contacting me when they really needed to. All the staff were friendly and I got the impression they were kind and patient with the residents. It is the best care home my husband was been in for respite.

My aunt moved to this care home in March 2020 and sadly has recently passed away after a short illness. The personnel were exceptional in helping me move my aunt into the home and settle her during the start of the pandemic. The whole family appreciated the support the home gave us. They managed the
pandemic situation very well. My aunt's room, as well as the communal areas, were always clean and tidy. There is a wide variety of activities and trips to local places. The nursing team effectively communicate and provide an excellent level of care. The accounts department are supportive and efficient. All invoices are always correct and managed in an efficient way. My aunt thought very highly off all the staff and enjoyed living at the home. I feel the home is well managed and all the staff extremely efficient, caring and supportive. I would highly recommend this care home.

My mother and father have been residents of the home since 2012. My father sadly passed away in 2013 after a long-term illness. My mother sadly passed away on the 22nd of May 2022 aged 91 years old. My mother had been one of the longest-serving residents since the home had been opened. Without exception,
the level of support and care has been over and above expectations. This includes front-of-house reception, front-line staff, day-to-day caring, kitchen staff plus management. My mother who was never the easiest to be pleased always was praising everything about the home, the love and care she was receiving and felt like part of a bigger family unit.

My mother's stay of over 2 and a half years at Newstone House was filled with care, warmth, companionship and laughter. Later on, she received excellent and compassionate nursing care and was never lonely or uncomfortable. She had a very happy time (as did I each and every time of my many many visits).
Considering her stay coincided with the pandemic, Newstone managed to keep us in close touch and safe throughout. While in Newstone's care, I felt the burden of worry for my mother's well being lifted which left me free to enjoy her company as fully as possible - a gift for which I will never stop being grateful. I had total trust in the staff and was never let down. Her end of life care was wonderful and took all the fear out of it for her and me. It was peaceful and respectful.
The facilities are excellent and comfortable: the air is not of a traditional care home but more like a hotel. The companion, nursing, care and kitchen teams work closely to make this a great place to reside.

I really like it here. Food is lovely and staff is very friendly. The chat with other residents make me socially active and the activities here are wonderful. Especially the quiz, puzzles and cinema room experience. They also provide vicar service which meets my spiritual needs and I feel like a complete
person in this place. I will say that Newstone House is the best place to stay.

I visited Newstone House throughout February this year to spend time with my father. Every staff member I met was friendly and welcoming on each visit. They gave the reassuring impression that they loved their job and that their sole focus was the residents' well-being. It was clear that my father was
in good hands - he always appeared clean and well-groomed. His room was always clean, tidy and well supplied with everything he needed. I can't speak highly enough of the facility itself or the staff. A big thank you to all concerned.

Mum moved in during the summer as she was struggling to cope independently at home, despite valiantly battling on. My aunt had previously been a resident at Newstone for almost five years until she passed away at the age of 94 so we had confidence in mum's move.


Mum had a fall in July at the home

and became a permanent resident. It is a relief to know that mum is receiving the professional and caring support and assistance she needs. She enjoys the food and put on some much-needed weight and always looks clean and cared for. The home is always clean and bright and a pleasant environment to be in.


As a family, we are grateful that mum is receiving the care that she needs at Newstone House. There are some outstanding carers there and I would like to express our gratitude and admiration to all the staff, especially for their work and commitment during these challenging Covid times.

My father is a resident of Newstone House, he has been there since the middle of September, after we as a family, including our father, decided he was no longer safe at home due to his Alzheimer's getting worse.
Dad has taken a while to settle in, but the staff have kept us informed during the whole
process, together we have come up with different things to try and make the whole experience as good as we possibly could for Dad. Two months on and I feel we are getting there.
Just last week I sadly had to take him to a friends funeral, the staff at Newstone House had him ready for me when I turned up to collect him, Dad was in his suit, with black shoes and tie on, he looked impeccable to which I am grateful to all the staff.
I hate to say it but I think his tie was better than mine!

Mum moved in permanently to Newstone House in April 2021 having over the years spent many respite breaks there. The home is purpose-built (10 years old) with rooms having en-suite facilities. Mum is happy there and I know that she is safe and being looked after which is a weight off my mind as I get
no younger. The staff will always go the extra mile and make you welcome. There is a daily programme of activities to provide stimulation and companionship, including bus trips out. I can visit her whenever I want now that many Covid restrictions have been lifted. Finally, during the height of the pandemic, the commitment of all in the home to staying safe was very evident, for which I am most grateful, with regular updates from the home and from the Colten Care chief executive.

My brother received the highest level of care, consideration, compassion, dignity and even affection for all the time he was at Newstone House. It was sad that my brother suffered from dementia but it was very fortunate he was able to be cared for at Newstone House by some really excellent staff.

On arrival to the home the staff are so friendly and accommodating and the decor bright and refreshing. Everywhere is so clean and the rooms are light and airy.
The outside space is beautiful, with colourful plants that provide a tranquil and pretty experience for both residents and visitors alike.
The parents are treated with dignity and visitors like friends. I was very impressed.

It was great to finally see Mum in person after being unable to visit her due to Covid travel restrictions since she moved to Newstone House in November 2020. It was such a relief to see her more content and less troubled in herself, and that her needs and safety were all being met in such a kind and
compassionate yet professional manner. I only have praise for everyone I met at the home, from the carers, companionship team, nurses, cleaners, laundry team, catering team and caretakers to management and the lovely team on reception. All their interactions with mum felt genuine, kind and loving. Her room looked lovely, as did she and it was great to see that she is entertained and is enjoying being in the lounge and beautiful gardens and getting involved in some activities on the days when she can. Newstone House is a fantastic home where nothing seems too much trouble and although it is never easy leaving after a visit, this time I know she is in good hands and I do not have to worry.

We knew the minute we set foot in Newstone House that this was what we wanted for Dad and that he would be very happy here. My brother and I have not been disappointed. Dad has been here for just over three years and has been extremely well looked after. The staff are professional and caring and always
very welcoming.
Pre-Covid Dad enjoyed many trips out, including one specifically tailored to him where he visited the village where he was stationed at the beginning of the war.
We were very impressed recently when staff worked very hard to make it possible for four family members to celebrate Dad’s 100th birthday at a socially-distanced party. They went beyond the call of duty to ensure that we all had a memorable and happy time.
We can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done for him over the years, and particularly over the last few difficult months.
We would not hesitate to recommend Newstone House to anyone wanting first-class care for a family member or friend.

My father has been with you for over 3 years now, he was made to feel welcome from day one and settled in very quickly. He always feared going into a home because he thought "the days would hang heavy on his hands" but he has found that the days/weeks pass so quickly he doesn't have time to be bored
as there is always plenty to do or get involved with.
Pre covid he thoroughly enjoyed the trips out organised by the home and still talks about his visit to a safari park.
The staff in his words are wonderful and can't do enough for him.
My sister and I feel that we could not have found a better home for dad and are very happy with the care that he receives.
A special thank you must go to the staff for everything they did to help dad celebrate his 100th birthday, it what a fantastic effort bearing in mind the current situation and very much appreciated by dad and the family.

Newstone House has provided consistently high-quality care for my wife over the last two years. Both her physical and mental health have improved significantly during that time, leading to an obvious increase in happiness and reduction in anxiety, even as the illness continues to progress.
Prior to
the Covid lockdown interventions, I visited on most days and enjoyed the atmosphere, the various activities organised and the varied facilities available within the home. The overall achievement by the staff in creating a very liveable environment is the critical component in my wife's well being.
During the pandemic, the home has managed to keep good communication between residents and family with video calls and more recently with carefully organised safe visits. These have demonstrated to us as a family that the home has managed to continue the high quality of care in all aspects through what must be a very difficult time.
