Hill House Nursing and Dementia Home is a purpose built, 56-bedroom home, committed to the highest standards of care and service, within a friendly and happy family run home. The home is rated Outstanding in caring and Good Overall by CQC (April 2022).

The aim is to provide the highest level of care in a dignified and compassionate way, with the best facilities and equipment in a comfortable home with trained experienced staff. There is a full and diverse activities programme for the residents put on throughout the home, providing many opportunities to socialise, participate and pursue their own interests. Outside there are beautiful, landscaped gardens and courtyards planted with year-round colour which are accessed by level, flat paths.

Qualified nurses and trained carers try and improve the quality of life for those who have chosen to live at the home. The approach is not one routine fits all, but rather a more personal care plan that makes allowances for the individuals' needs and concerns. The residents are at the centre of the home helping to create the Chef's menu's and choosing the activities programme. Everyone at Hill House wants the residents to be well cared for, happy and enjoy living at Hill House.

I am so pleased that I chose Hill House for the ongoing care for my father. All the staff from the nurses to the carers, reception, entertainment team, kitchen team and laundry/maintenance all provide exceptional service and care to the residents and their families and go above and beyond in their everyday
tasks. The nursing staff are always available to answer any questions/concerns and provide regular medical updates with prompt intervention where necessary.

Mum has been in Hill House for the last 13 months, suffering from dementia. Every time I visit I'm welcomed with warm smiles from all the staff. They know you by name, they always make time for a chat and you're made to feel like you're part of a really big family.
All the staff have really taken the
time to get to know mum and understand her needs, which is particularly important as she has very limited verbal skills. They know what activities she enjoys and what she doesn't and you can see they put that knowledge into practice.
Mum's care is fantastic and she couldn't be in a better place. Everyone is so lovely with her; patient, caring and kind. I know that in Hill House she is happy, safe, well looked after and always treated with compassion and dignity. All the staff are approachable and I know that if I have any questions or concerns they will be dealt with immediately, however I rarely need to ask any questions because the communication, both written and verbal is so good.

My mother has been a resident at Hill House since September 2022. I'm very pleased about how she has been consistently looked after since then. My mother is in a wheelchair, has macular degeneration and can barely see and hard of hearing
The carers are so attentive and my mother is relaxed and confident
with those who look after her every need. The nurse are in hand for chats about mum. There is good communication between the home and myself
The home is spotless. It's a happy home where relatives feel welcome and the layout means the lounge and activities take place in one area so there's always feeling of life going on around my mother even if she can't join in all the activities she's still part of the group Having looked at other homes I'm extremely happy that at nearly 99 my mum feels wanted and cared for by people who are her family in so many ways. This is so reassuring for me

My 93 yr old Mother has been a resident of Hill house for over a year now and I have to say I have no complaints whatsoever. All the staff from the carers, nurses, events team, reception etc. are incredible. They go over and above in all they do. The genuine care is always given with a smile. The atmosphere
is always welcoming and friendly. My Mother had a birthday gathering which was prepared beautifully by the events staff, who couldn't have been more accommodating. I never worry when I leave Hill House, as I know she is happy and well looked after. I would highly recommend to anyone.

My mother was previously at Woodlands house but moved over to Hill House a couple of years ago when her dementia worsened and she needed more medical care for some of the side effects, such as swallowing issues. She settled in quickly there and takes part in activities. The staff are exceptional and
the atmosphere there is always of genuine care. Hill House provides simply the best care and are right to be proud of that. The people working there are always brimming with kindness, attentiveness and respect. I have never once doubted that my mum is in the best possible place, for this time of her life. She deserves nothing but the best and somehow we managed to find exactly that for her! Special thank you to the manager, who keeps me in the loop and arranges video calls, because I live and work in Arctic Canada. Thankfully my brother lives a short drive away from Hill House and is able to visit regularly in person and enjoys the family activities.

Hill House is by far the best care home we encountered when it came time for Mum to go into dementia care. It is well run, properly staffed and offers a friendly and cheerful home, combined with top-quality professional nursing and personal care. My family and I could not recommend Hill House any higher!

Mum has been at Hill House for 2 years. The Staff there are wonderful - Care staff, entertainers, reception, nurses - all very caring, welcoming and patient. The facilities are good and are clean. The garden is a delightful refuge when the weather is good,


The nursing staff are excellent in keeping

us informed as to mum's health. And the chef is great at catering to mum's wishes.


I am welcomed every time I visit & when I leave I feel reassured Mum is in good hands.

I really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, and the residents seemed happy and well taken care of. The staff were super friendly and polite, and everything was so clean and tidy. Our relative has settled well and the improvement in her emotional wellbeing has been reassuring. Even though she only has a few memories she is bringing them up in conversations again. She is kept entertained and keeps staff on their toes. All staff from managers to reception are warm and friendly

First class facilities for all residents and their relatives. The facilities are clean, spacious and bright. We particularly enjoy taking Mum on garden walks. There are lots of activities for Mum to do. We are welcome to join in activities and enjoy the singers who come in to entertain. All staff are

Mum first moved into Hill House following a spate in hospital last summer, this was initially for respite care to get her back on her feet. She has made great progress but over the past few months we have realised that Mum really needs the level of care provided by the amazing team at Hill House on
an ongoing basis. The team are fantastic at caring for Mum round the clock and providing Mum with the right mix of clinical and emotional support. The level of care is second to none and the atmosphere at Hill House is truly one of a family, with the owners personally involved and supporting their team as needed. I would highly recommend Hill House to take care of your loved ones when they need it most.

My father was admitted early April from Hospital after 10 weeks stay, he was so happy to arrive at such a lovely place, his first request was to move his bed near to the window of his room so as to watch the birds and listen to them, he was duly granted his wish.
The staff were wonderful to him with
all his needs attended with the highest of skill, everything was done for him although he was near the end of his life, his skin was improved wonderfully and also cleanliness.
I would like to thank the home managers for keeping me and my wife updated at all times always with care.

I have made several visits this month to see my friend at Hill House. It is lovely that every time I am greeted by reception and other staff by my Christian name, and always a smile. It's not easy seeing a loved one decline in their capacity to do what we take for granted. So to see the feedback
every week with the newsletter, and seeing how the home is doing it's utmost to keep our loved ones 'busy or occupied' and give them something positive to look forward to. I had no idea you took them to the local pub!

My Mum has been at Hill House for the past 2 years and I would rate the care she has received as excellent. The carers and nursing staff have been nothing but fantastic, kind and open with me about my Mum's condition. I am always consulted and get regular updates. Nothing is ever too much trouble.


Special

mention goes to the activity team. My Mum's major concern about having to go into a home was being 'plonked in front of the TV' as she put it. This is not the case. There are daily activities which she get involved in sometimes but there is never any pressure if she doesn't feel up to it.


All in all Hill House is a brilliant home and it is a joy to visit my Mum there. Thank you team!

Good facility with caring and professional staff. Rooms are kept clean and well maintained. Costs are very high but likely in line with market rates. Communication with relatives is good, we are kept well informed with what is happening including activities and visits.

My wife Margaret was sadly diagnosed with Alzheimer's. After reaching the point where she needed specialist care she moved into Hill House in November 2022. Dementia was finally to take its toll and she passed away there in February this year (2025).
Looking back I can only express my heartfelt thanks
to Hill House and its Staff for the care, compassion and patience shown to Margaret throughout her stay.
All who visited Margaret came away commenting on the airiness and spaciousness of her room and the spotless cleanliness throughout. The friendliness and caring manner with which Residents were treated by Staff was particularly noted.
My thanks to you one last time Hill House and to your wonderful team.

As a family our main wish is that dad is comfortable and happy in his surroundings. Hill House achieves this.

My father was a resident of Hill House from November 2022 until his death in January 2025. My father arrived with some trepidation, but he couldn't help but be impressed by the care, patience, kindness and respect everyone showed him day after day. All the staff are high quality and showed a desire
to make my father's life as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. They all found time in their day to chat with him and share a laugh. My father loved participating in activities as wide ranging as wine tasting, flower arranging, cookery, bowling, quizzes and he enjoyed the live performances from singers and dancers, the animal visits and all the local outings. The regular residents meetings are also a special feature and made him feel involved in and connected to his care.


As a family, we were made to feel welcome at all times and we were listened to whenever we had queries or concerns. The support and kindness we received towards the end of my father's life was outstanding.

I am writing this as a regular volunteer, but with a background going back to 2016 when my wife became a resident at Hill House. The nursing home is very carefully managed and this is reflected in all aspects of the wonderful, caring and happy atmosphere of the home. The latter has been the case since
we became a part of Hill House. As a volunteer, I have contact with many of the residents eg. helping with visits out, encouraging a chat about whatever they may wish to say (very often about their lives and experiences), and in fine weather assisting in a tour of the well-kept gardens and usually, a chat by the fish pond. I am always impressed by the standard of care given by all of the staff and in particular by their patience. I would like to emphasise that this applies to all staff no matter what their particular role may be.

    The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 73 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I left the NHS where I was Ward Manager of an elderly care unit at the Royal Free Hospital when I assumed control of Woodlands & Hill Brow Ltd following my mother's retirement in 1998.


I am immensely proud of the standards of care we achieve and the family ethos and feel which runs through the heart of our homes.

I take pride in my maintenance team and in providing a safe, well maintained, attractive place for the residents and staff alike to live and work.

I'm Steve, and I have the privilege of working as a Chef at Farnham Mill. It brings me immense joy to be part of a company that truly cares for its employees and fosters a supportive atmosphere. The management team is exceptional, always putting the well-being of both the residents and staff at the forefront.


One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is preparing meals for our residents. I make it a point to engage with each person individually, learning about their favourite foods and drinks. Their happiness is my priority, creating wholesome, delicious, and nutritious meals that they genuinely enjoy.


In addition to my kitchen duties, I also manage the chefs' table and cooking club at both Farnham Mill and Hill House. It’s my passion to encourage our residents to explore their culinary skills and creativity, ensuring that we keep that spirit alive together.
