Hill House Nursing and Dementia Home is a purpose built, 56-bedroom home, committed to the highest standards of care and service, within a friendly and happy family run home. The home is rated Outstanding in caring and Good Overall by CQC (April 2022).

The aim is to provide the highest level of care in a dignified and compassionate way, with the best facilities and equipment in a comfortable home with trained experienced staff. There is a full and diverse activities programme for the residents put on throughout the home, providing many opportunities to socialise, participate and pursue their own interests. Outside there are beautiful, landscaped gardens and courtyards planted with year-round colour which are accessed by level, flat paths.

Qualified nurses and trained carers try and improve the quality of life for those who have chosen to live at the home. The approach is not one routine fits all, but rather a more personal care plan that makes allowances for the individuals' needs and concerns. The residents are at the centre of the home helping to create the Chef's menu's and choosing the activities programme. Everyone at Hill House wants the residents to be well cared for, happy and enjoy living at Hill House.

Good facility with caring and professional staff. Rooms are kept clean and well maintained. Costs are very high but likely in line with market rates. Communication with relatives is good, we are kept well informed with what is happening including activities and visits.

My wife Margaret was sadly diagnosed with Alzheimer's. After reaching the point where she needed specialist care she moved into Hill House in November 2022. Dementia was finally to take its toll and she passed away there in February this year (2025).
Looking back I can only express my heartfelt thanks
to Hill House and its Staff for the care, compassion and patience shown to Margaret throughout her stay.
All who visited Margaret came away commenting on the airiness and spaciousness of her room and the spotless cleanliness throughout. The friendliness and caring manner with which Residents were treated by Staff was particularly noted.
My thanks to you one last time Hill House and to your wonderful team.

As a family our main wish is that dad is comfortable and happy in his surroundings. Hill House achieves this.
We are kept informed about dad's health and well being. If we have any concern Hill House is approachable and always willing to help.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff
for all their hard work and dedication.

My father was a resident of Hill House from November 2022 until his death in January 2025. My father arrived with some trepidation, but he couldn't help but be impressed by the care, patience, kindness and respect everyone showed him day after day. All the staff are high quality and showed a desire
to make my father's life as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. They all found time in their day to chat with him and share a laugh. My father loved participating in activities as wide ranging as wine tasting, flower arranging, cookery, bowling, quizzes and he enjoyed the live performances from singers and dancers, the animal visits and all the local outings. The regular residents meetings are also a special feature and made him feel involved in and connected to his care.

As a family, we were made to feel welcome at all times and we were listened to whenever we had queries or concerns. The support and kindness we received towards the end of my father's life was outstanding.

I am writing this as a regular volunteer, but with a background going back to 2016 when my wife became a resident at Hill House. The nursing home is very carefully managed and this is reflected in all aspects of the wonderful, caring and happy atmosphere of the home. The latter has been the case since
we became a part of Hill House. As a volunteer, I have contact with many of the residents eg. helping with visits out, encouraging a chat about whatever they may wish to say (very often about their lives and experiences), and in fine weather assisting in a tour of the well-kept gardens and usually, a chat by the fish pond. I am always impressed by the standard of care given by all of the staff and in particular by their patience. I would like to emphasise that this applies to all staff no matter what their particular role may be.

We are delighted with the care given to my husband. Much patience was shown as he took a while to settle in and subsequently with his care. Nothing is too much trouble and there is a feeling of love in everyone and in everything that is done. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming, it's a joy to
visit my husband.

Both our parents are being cared for in Hill House Nursing and Dementia Home. What sets it apart from other nursing homes is the number of devoted and attentive staff that know Mum and Dad really well. There is very little staff turnover which ensures familiarity for our parents and continuity of care.
The residents have a large variety of activities to choose from each day ensuring they are mentally stimulated and enjoying living there. It's reassuring to know that they are both well cared for, during a challenging time of their lives. I would certainly recommend this nursing home as they are a head and shoulders above others in the area.

My mother has been a resident for over 6 months and I can not fault the care she has received. From the moment she entered into care she has been treated with respect and dignity. The staff are very supportive and I am kept up to date with any changes to care or behaviour. Any medical conditions are
dealt with promptly and nothing is too much trouble. Always a relief to know my mum is safe and happy.

Dad has settled very happily into Hill House and is well looked after. All the staff are friendly and approachable and take time to explain routines and answer any questions when asked. The home is a lovely environment, always a welcoming place to come into, with calm and well kept outdoor spaces when
the weather allows and a bright and spacious lounge with plenty of space for activities to take place indoors. Dad has enjoyed joining in with trips out too, thanks to the minibus with wheelchair access.

Mum continues to do ever so well at Hill House and I cannot ask for more from all of the team there with regards to her care. It is so obvious that she feels safe and is content in her environment. The team do a remarkable job in providing excellent care as well as activities to keep her as physically
and mentally active as possible. Very happy - we chose well with Hill Brow and now Hill House - as the care and attention provided is first class.

I know my mother is very fond of all the staff and feels able to ask for help whenever needed. I, too, have noticed how attentive they are, and I feel that with the activities and outings so often on offer that she is in the best possible hands. She seems very settled and contented at Hill House. I
know she loves going out, so it is wonderful she is included in so many of the outings arranged for the residents. A big thank you to everyone.

From the first contact until my mother's death, Hill House was friendly, welcoming and easy to deal with. Mum was only there a short time and was really receiving end-of-life care but all the staff were so helpful and caring and made Mum's last weeks as comfortable as they could. Mum was confined to
bed for most of her stay so was unable to make use of many of the facilities but on visits, we could see how good they were and the diverse range of activities provided for residents, which even Mum commented on. The open approach to visiting times meant that all of the family were able to get to visit Mum, granny and great-granny at some point with ease and always made very welcome. Thank you Hill House.

Hill House is a great place for my mother compared to living at home with my father. The staff are kind, gentle and knowledgeable, monthly updates are emailed and there are often two activities for residents to partake in every day. My only criticism would be that the monthly updates contain much of
the same wording, and I'm not sure how much use is made of the detailed document for the care of my mother when speaking to her about her life. However, she is very happy at Hill House and the facilities are excellent.

Initially, unfamiliar with care home environments when my wife first became a resident, it was surprising to me that an individual's privacy in her own room was variable. You explained to me that given the mental health of some other residents in the care home, it was not always possible to preclude
'wandering'.
It might be helpful if this point was made to new residents and their sponsors, to avoid misunderstanding.
Reply from Lauren Stoneman, PA/Administrator at Hill House Nursing and Dementia HomeThank you for your kind review and for giving Hill House 5 stars for care. Which we really appreciated. At Hill House, we do care for residents who have dementia in our Garden View side. These residents do have the freedom to wonder and live happily with this illness.

My elderly mother was admitted for palliative care. She was made very comfortable in a quiet room. She was always treated in a respectful and friendly manner by all of the nursing staff. Nurses responded as quickly as possible to the call button and would return on a highly frequent basis when my mother
was approaching end of life. Food was always well-presented and the staff attempted to help my mother even when she was no longer eating. Management and senior nurses were highly responsive in answering my questions. We were updated with medical information. Visitors were always made to feel very welcome. Housekeeping was also excellent - clothes were taken for washing and returned on a daily basis. I'm very glad that we chose Hill House for my mother's final days.

My wife is at Hill House for respite care whilst she recovers her mobility after a couple of extended stays in hospital after falls and an elective operation. Because of these hospital stays her mobility was seriously compromised. My wife has dementia and MS and although the latter is in remission it
still has an adverse effect on her body strength and mobility.
A needs careful handling and the staff at Hill House are excellent in every respect. The nursing staff are really good and were quick to catch onto my wife's condition as it deteriorated with an infection (inherited from her time in hospital). Their quick action was instrumental in her recovery.
I appreciate the wise counsel of the management and senior nursing staff about her current treatment and what needs to be done when she comes home.
Their reputation for high-quality care is well deserved.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.882)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.882) out of 10 for Hill House Nursing and Dementia Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 69 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 69 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.882 for Hill House Nursing and Dementia Home is calculated as follows: ( (723 Excellents x 5) + (72 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 806 Ratings = 4.882
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hill House Nursing and Dementia Home is based on 69 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 69 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
