My mother's needs are well met at Colne View. I know she is safe and despite her challenging behaviour, is always respectfully cared for. Staff keep me informed at all times. However, it would be helpful to have a key member of staff for email contact to keep updated re: non-medical issues like clothes
and toiletries.

My mother has been a resident at Colne View for just on a year. During that time I haven't had cause to worry about her care - unlike the previous home.

There seems to be sufficient staff who are all very friendly and look after my mother well.
I am reassured to know that my mother is being well

cared for.

My dad moved in at the end of April as he could no longer look after himself at home. He has settled in well and likes living there. Their food is good but maybe too much for people who are not very active.
He would prefer more activities outside the home, but I know this is difficult to arrange. His
room is a good size and well furnished. Finally, the staff who look after him are lovely, they are very friendly and take great care of him.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Colne ViewThank you very much for your comments regarding your father’s care at Colne View and positive scores around the care team and facilities. It is great to know that he has settled in well. We appreciate your comments about the food; the chefs pride themselves on producing fresh, seasonal and nutritious meals every day for residents and aim to ensure that personal preferences and appetites are catered for. We continue to look for ways to improve our meal time service and take feedback from regular relative meetings very seriously.
With regards to activities, the lifestyle team support residents to continue with their own hobbies and interests, with daily activities that residents can choose from. We recently took several residents on an outing to Brightlingsea and there are regular visits outside of the home planned across the year.
Our team are always keen for feedback and suggestions, so please do let us know of any ideas so that we can continue to provide the very best care for your loved one.

Having spent 2 weeks only here, just to recuperate from a big operation, I didn't need all the facilities, but the food was excellent, the staff very friendly.
The room was clean and pleasant.

I cannot praise the staff at Colne View highly enough. My husband was in Colne View for 15 months prior to his death last year and the professional support and loving care, which very often went beyond what I expected given to both my husband and myself, was amazing, especially when his health was
failing. I cannot thank you all enough.

I found Colne View to be an excellent care home. The carers and staff are all very kind and caring, nothing seems to be too much for them. The facilities in the home are first class. The managers are really hands on. On arrival, you are greeted like a friend. Management has been a pleasure to deal with.
This is a truly great care home.

It's a very traumatic decision to make when your loved one has to be looked after by others. From the first day, the manager and staff were concerned about me as well as my husband. The staff have always been thoughtful and kind. The staff keep me informed of any incidents or developments. The food
is excellent and always a good choice. The home always has an approachable manner and nothing is too much trouble. All I can say is that we consider ourselves extremely thankful, that our choices were the right ones, supported by caring staff and management.

My lovely dad is a resident at Colne View. The staff are amazing, always making time for him which is crucial when living with dementia. They are all caring, helpful, helpful, happy and funny. Dad smiles at the girls and likes to play 'ball' with the lads. Great atmosphere. This is like my second home
now. Thank you xxx

I originally came for three weeks straight from hospital as I did not feel fit enough to go home to look after myself.
Unfortunately just as I was due to go home I suffered from a sickness virus and felt quite ill for a week of so and my period of stay had to be extended. I have been cared for extremely
well and much appreciate the help and kindness shown by all the staff.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.805)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.805) out of 10 for Colne View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.805 for Colne View is calculated as follows: ( (384 Excellents x 5) + (84 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 472 Ratings = 4.805
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Colne View is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Since qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 2013, I have completed leadership and management training courses while progressing in my career from Clinical Lead to Senior Nurse to Home Manager.

Becoming a home manager was the proudest moment in my career. After years of frontline experience, it came as a result of hard work, continuous development and a passion for improving standards of care.

I previously worked for Care UK in 2018 as Clinical Lead, and I always appreciated Care UK’s values and the focus on high-quality, person-centred care. When the opportunity came to return to Colne View as Home Manager, it felt like the right time and the right place to take the next step in my leadership journey.

As Home Manager of Colne View, I believe compassion, integrity and the ability to adapt are essential qualities. A good home manager should inspire confidence, be solution-focused and create a culture where everyone feels valued and supported.

My favourite part of each day is walking through the home and connecting with the residents and team. A smile, a short conversation, or just checking in on how someone’s day is going – those little moments make a big difference and keep me grounded in why I do what I do.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, cooking and taking long walks in nature. I also find reading and listening to music very relaxing.

I’m looking forward to working closely with the team to build a positive culture and ensure residents at Colne View receive the best possible care. I’m also excited about building strong relationships with families and the wider community to make Colne View a warm, welcoming, and vibrant home.
