Monkscroft Care Centre offers up to 80 residents compassionate, individualised dementia, nursing and respite care in a modern, comfortable environment. Opened in 2012, the home is located in a residential area of Cheltenham and has good access to the A40 and M5.

With your comfort and well-being in mind, this welcoming home is designed around four 'households' and has a hair salon, music room and cinema. You will find somewhere to relax or socialise with family and friends from your own spacious bed-sitting room, with en-suite facilities, to communal lounge and dining areas which are light, bright and comfortable.

Interesting scents, shapes and colours are provided all year round in their landscaped gardens. There are raised planting beds so you can join in the gardening activities if you so wish. To give you the support you need when you need it, a friendly, professionally trained team are on hand around-the-clock to support you in how you wish to spend your day enabling you to continue a fulfilling and independent lifestyle.

Dedicated Activities Coordinators organise a varied programme of events around each individual's requests, hobbies and interests. The team will be delighted to assist you to continue with existing pastimes, as well as give you the opportunity to try something new if you would like to. They make sure everyone is able to enjoy themselves to the fullest, be that with arts and crafts, a coffee morning or more individual pursuits. Visits from outside entertainers happen regularly and there is a cosy cinema. The home has access to a Trust minibus.

A talented cook and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals. The freshly prepared, delicious dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and take into account individual dietary requirements and preferences. Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join.

Your fees cover several areas while in their care.
These services are: Personal care, accommodation,
utilities, use of communal areas, meals, drinks and
snacks, laundry (excluding dry cleaning),

home.


Services NOT included in price are: dentistry, chiropody,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, opticians, hairdressing,
medications, toiletries, clothing, newspapers/magazines.
During your stay, you may need to purchase additional goods
and services. If they are able to provide such goods and
services, they will tell you how much these goods and services
will cost and they expect that you will pay for these goods and
services at the time you request them.
They can accompany loved ones to private appointments,
however the fee attached to this is £21 per hour. Where private taxi
services are used for transportation to appointments the cost should
be paid for by yourself.

Staff at Monkscroft once again made Christmas a special time, gave gifts and spread happiness among the residents. Most notably, family members were included in the Christmas dinner, where they had booked in advance. The opportunity to join a family member at the dinner table on Christmas Day was most
unusual and very much appreciated. Mum's day was very much happier for it. The food was excellent, and we even had a choice, Mum chose the salmon, which was moist and delicious. The cook deserves a commendation for cooking for so many people and providing such excellent fayre.

As soon as I walked into Monkscroft Care Centre, the atmosphere was wonderful. Receptionist was helpful and explained where we needed to go. Everywhere was clean, tidy and organised. The room my aunt was in was spacious laid out well and I felt this was a lovely place to be. All staff I met in the times
I visited were kind, caring and were happy to assist my aunt and us as her visitors. A wonderful experience, thank you.

I cannot say enough about everything about this care centre. The family are over the moon that she is here. The care and compassion to the residents, it is exceptional. All I can say is this centre is like a hotel.

We were so lucky to find Monkscroft Care Centre! Mum had always said 'Put me on the ground before you put me in a home' and the plan was for her to live with me or my sister, but illness and the NHS took us in a different direction and the outset of Covis in 2020 made it a necessity to become permanent.
Thank goodness as the 24/7 care she receives far outstrips what I could have provided.
Staff are great, all the facilities good and the company and engagement are really important. After a very difficult life, Mum is in the comfortable homely place she deserves. Thank you.

When I went to view Monkscroft I knew this was the place my husband would be looked after with respect and care. The care is outstanding, the activities are amazing. I also feel supported along our journey. I cannot thank you enough. All the staff are amazing, friendly with endless patience.

Monkscroft is a wonderful home for my 90-year-old mum. Mum wanted to spend her final years at home but her needs became too great for her children to care for her in the ways she needed despite her daughters being nurses.
Mum has settled in so well and all the staff are amazing, professional, knowledgeable
and so kind.

Entrusting a family member to a care home is undoubtedly one of the most daunting decisions one can face. However, Monkscroft alleviates these concerns by providing an environment that feels like the best possible home for my mother. The centre exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff's
dedication and genuine care are immediately evident. They are incredibly friendly and always ready to offer reassurance, ensuring that my mother is treated with the utmost respect and compassion.
Initially, I harbored doubts and concerns about my mother staying at Monkscroft due to her complex needs. Yet, upon my arrival, it became clear that the staff are fully trained to provide the support. They consistently go above their duties, offering a level of care that leaves you with complete peace of mind, knowing she is in exceptionally capable hands.

I arrived at Monkscroft Care Centre in March on a stretcher from the hospital. I was paralysed from the waist down, incontinent and I could not wash myself. I could also not talk. I remember being taken into a lovely clean room, comfortable bed, shower and toilet with a lovely view looking out onto
vegetation. Everybody (carers) was so kind to me and never ever complained about incontinence in bed which is really a ghastly job. At the time when I arrived, I was left alone but everybody kept a good eye on me. As I recovered I was able to talk to the carers. They would tell me about themselves, what nationality they were and where they came from which I found was so interesting. The manager was amazing. She listened endlessly to any problems and encouraged me. She had soul and was so kind like everyone else. My friend who used to come and visit me said no other person would have put up with the likes of me and my untidy husband who used to leave a trail of biscuits around the room. I eventually left and now live at home and made a full recovery. I walk and talk endlessly, and danced a festival until 4 in the morning. I have a good appetite and am back in love with my husband. Without Monkscroft it would never have been possible.

My mum was admitted for 2 weeks respite following increasing difficulties with activities of daily living due to frailty. She is a private but friendly lady - enjoying a balance of time to herself with conversations and company. Within a few days of her visit she decided that she wanted to stay permanently.
Besides the setting and facilities her key reason for making the decision is the wonderful team of nurses and carers. She tells us regularly that every single member of staff is lovely. I have no doubt in recommending to others.

The care and attention of the staff at Monkscroft is amazing. They have all helped the family adjust to a situation that is difficult to cope with and accept. The care of my husband is exemplary. We have been so reassured at every stage that my dad has been here. He seems so content and the staff are continually watching to make sure all his needs are being met. There are great activities and it is very much a home from home where we can visit at any time and take in our assorted pets! Dad looks

Since my dad has been in Monkscroft with vascular dementia, he has been looked after with the greatest respect. The staff are so kind and friendly to my dad and his family. My dad can be very difficult at times but the staff including the cleaners and admin are fantastic with him. We could have moved

From the moment we arranged for Dad to go into the Care Home, the staff have been amazing.
Taking in details of what Dad's interests were so he had some familiar points of reference.
From care staff, receptionists, admin staff, nurses and managers and anyone we have come into contact with has made
the emotionally difficult process so much easier.
Dad is very content and there is no doubt it is the welcoming environment he is in that has made that possible.
Monkscroft is highly recommended.

The current access system is awful. We arrive at the main door only to have to wait over 20 minutes to gain access. This is an unacceptable time frame and takes time away from being with family members. This needs to be reviewed in my opinion.

Whenever I visit, I am always greeted with a cheerful reception. My sister is well looked after and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The other residents are managed well and are provided with their needs.

I would like to say the manager and deputy manager have been so kind to me and helped me so much with whatever issues or questions I have had. They are amazing. I was left very upset after a meeting with the nurse, but this morning, the manager and deputy manager spent time with me, discussing it. They
couldn't have been kinder and more helpful if they tried and were concerned I had been so upset.

My brother is at Springbank Ward and is very well looked after. The staff on that ward go over and above to care for him. My only criticism is, no one in reception at weekends. You can wait ages before being admitted to visit.

My dad spent 6 months at Monkscroft where he was given loving care and respect throughout his time there. We cannot thank the Monkscroft team enough (across management, reception, cleaners, handyman, carers and nurses) for everything they did to make my dad's time there as enjoyable and comfortable
as possible. All the team made my dad and all of us feel so welcome and part of a wider caring family, and all the team went well beyond just doing their job. I cannot thank the amazing team for everything they have done for us and my dad over the last 6 months and for the friendships we have made.

Mum has been a resident here for 20 months. We chose Monkscroft as previously my brother spent his last days here. Our family were so pleased with the care he was given which to us there was no other choice. We are so pleased with everything that happens in Monkscroft. All of the staff are very welcoming

Doreen

Doreen Paisley

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2019

The residents at Monkscroft Care Centre are cared for by a highly dedicated and professional team of approximately 130 employees which includes Nurses, Care Leaders, Carers, Administrators, Housekeepers and the Catering Team. They are all led and supported by the General Manager, Deputy Manager, Head of Dementia Care and the Senior Nurse Team.
Doreen is a Registered Nurse with more than 25 years’ experience managing healthcare services in the public, private and charity sectors in Nursing, Dementia and Mental Health homes.
Prior to joining the Orders of St John Care Trust as the Monkscroft Care Centre General Manager, Doreen managed a similar large service consistently rated GOOD by CQC.
As well as a qualification as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Doreen holds a Registered Managers Award. She has completed numerous courses covering all aspects of caring for older people including dementia and palliative care.
Doreen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in Elderly and Dementia Care to her role. She is committed to supporting the staff to deliver person-centred care to ensure that the people who live in the home continue to lead fulfilling lives.
Outside of work, Doreen enjoys travelling around in her motorhome with her family and dogs, and arts and crafts.

Lynne

Lynne Donaldson

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2001

Lynne has worked in the care sector for many years and has been a valued team member at The Orders of St John Care Trust since 2001.
Lynne has completed extensive training including NVQ Level 2 in health and social care, Level 3 in dementia awareness and Level 3 in safeguarding and the Care Leadership Programme. Lynne enjoyed completing the Dementia Leadership Award with the 2gether Trust in 2018 and supported the team in gaining Dementia accreditation for Monkscroft's Redgrove household in Feb 2019.
Lynne started her career as a night care assistant, soon becoming a care leader, then progressed to Head of Care and more recently head of dementia care at Monkscroft before her promoting to Deputy Manager in November 2020..
Lynne has a passion for learning new skills and improving her knowledge and she has demonstrated a strong track record of leading dementia care in a sensitive and professional manner, Lynne ensures all the residents are treated as an individual, having empathy and an understanding while supporting them with therapeutic approaches. Lynne loves that she can help residents keep their own identity and interests ensuring they can still enjoy an independent and fulfilling life.
Lynne prides herself on her communication skills, her caring nature and she is always looking to go above and beyond to help and support our residents and her team.
Lynne’s proudest moment was being awarded the chairman’s commendation for meritorious service in 2017, Leader of the year staff Awards 2018, and becoming a Finalist GCPA Awards for Dementia Care 2019.
Lynne enjoys spending her free time with her family and spoiling her Granddaughter.

Susan

Susan Barrass

Job Title: Head of Dementia Care Joined: 2007

Susan's employment with OSJCT started as Head of Domestic in 2007. She then became a Carer, followed by a Care Leader which led to her current position of Head of Dementia Care. Susan has completed broad training which includes NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Health and Social Care and completed a QCF Level 3 in Dementia Awareness. 


Susan thoroughly enjoyed the Dementia Awareness course in 2020 as it provided her with the knowledge, understanding and ideas to implement the care she delivers to the residents at Monkscroft. Susan is a Dementia Link Worker and is always willing to answer any questions about Dementia. 


Susan has lots of enthusiasm to learn new skills and to improve her current knowledge. She strives to deliver high standards of care to the residents whilst maintaining dignity and respect. Susan us a very sensitive and understanding person who ensures she supports the residents in a personable way and always looks for ways to improve the lives of the residents. 


Susan has great communication skills and great relationships with families who are always thanking Susan for her hard work and dedication. Susan is a well-liked colleague and is known to having a good rapport with the team. She is a "go to" individual. 


Susan has many achievements that she is proud of, one is receiving the Chairman's Commendation Award for Meritorious Service in 2016 and being nominated for Leader of the Year. 


In her spare time, Susan enjoys spending time with her granddaughters, watching tennis, reading and loves the Harry Potter franchise. Susan was very proud to take part in the Alzheimer's society walk in 2018 with fellow colleagues to raise money for dementia awareness. 

Sarah

Sarah Davis

Job Title: Activities Co-ordinator Joined: 2017

Sarah joined the Trust in May 2017 after studying Occupational Therapy at University and values the importance of person-centred care. Sarah likes to discover people’s interests and build relationships with residents and families which continues to support a positive community within and outside of Monkscroft. Sarah is also the Cheltenham representative for the ‘Gloucestershire Meaningful Activity and Wellbeing Network’ and has a passion for providing meaningful and engaging activities that supports the wellbeing of residents.
In Sarah’s spare time, she enjoys attending theatre shows and spending time with friends and family.

Emma

Emma Lomas

Job Title: Administration assistant Joined: 2018

Emma is an experienced Administration Assistant who has achieved BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business & Administration and is hoping to work towards Level 3, Emma has also achieved an Ultimate Customer Service Training certificate as well as qualifications in ICT. Emma loves helping people and making a difference to our resident's lives. Emma joined the team in June 2018 and has never looked back, she thoroughly enjoys working alongside the rest of the team at Monkscroft to provide the highest standard of care to their residents. Emma is passionate about creating a welcoming and friendly environment for the residents and their families, as well as building lasting relationships. In her spare time, she enjoys going on walks and spending time with her family and friends (and her cat!).
