The team at Lake View are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents and supporting them to have a very active role to play in how their home is run. There are resident ambassadors, who do everything from showing new residents and their families around their home, to providing feedback at residents’ meetings.

The home is thriving, with so many activities to enjoy, from karaoke, pamper sessions and a knit and natter group, to movie afternoons with popcorn in the home’s cinema, trips out into the community, pub lunches and animal visits.

The local community are embraced into life in the home, from school children who take part in activities, to a community choir, musicians and entertainers who regularly perform for the residents. And the home has its own piano for anyone who fancies some spontaneous music!

Lake View has its own a hair salon, with a mobile hairdresser visiting weekly, as well as a coffee shop for ‘Tea Tuesdays’ and relaxing with loved ones, who are welcome at any time.

The beautiful landscaped gardens have raised planters and wheelchair friendly pathways. This summer the residents have loved growing their own fruit and vegetables from seed in the polytunnel, harvesting their produce for the chef to use in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement.

Mealtimes are another highlight, with home-cooked meals and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. In the dining rooms residents enjoy everything from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays, plus themed menus for special occasions.

The spacious bedrooms are beautifully furnished and decorated, with walk-in wet room showers.

Loved ones are embraced into life in the home and are welcome at any time. And there is a private family and friends Facebook page, where they can see what the residents have been enjoying doing, even if they can’t be there in person.

My mother is a resident of Lake View Residential on respite care. She has settled in really quickly and has been made to feel very welcome. All of our concerns about her going into a care home were immediately put to rest upon viewing the facility, meeting the staff and other residents, everyone seems
genuinely happy, positive and upbeat upon every visit.
The facilities are very good. The staff have gone to great lengths to accommodate my mother in terms of what she would like to eat and encourage her to interact. They have even helped her maintain outside friendships helping her write cards/letters which is really important to help her to engage with people socially.
Mum seems very proud of her room, always happy to give anyone a tour who comes to visit taking pride in the overall facility. They have been good at communicating with the family and alerting us to any medical appointments or developments with Mum and enabling her to call us at will or for us to call her for a chat.
Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Lake View Residential Care HomeThank you for sharing such a thoughtful review about Lake View. We're delighted to hear that your mother has settled in so well and feels at home with us. It's wonderful to hear that the team are able to support your mother in such meaningful ways, especially with her letter writing. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and the team will be very proud to read your comments, thank you.

My father was a resident for respite care for just over two weeks. He was made to feel very welcome on arrival and settled quickly. The environment was very clean and pleasant. When I collected Dad I could see he had been treated with kindness and respect throughout his stay. All the staff were lovely.
Thank you for taking such good care of my Dad.

My mother went into Lake View initially for respite care following the death of my father at the end of 2020, during Covid so we were unable to preview the home but it had a good reputation. My mother had dementia which steadily progressed. Our first impressions during visits (once allowed) were mixed.
Sometimes Mum was unkempt and this was a concern. Things did seem to improve in 2023 as staffing seemed to improve/increase but I still feel dementia residents could have been better occupied. At the end of her life, however, care was exemplary and could not have been better.
Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Lake View Residential Care HomeThank you for your review and your comments about the exemplary care provided by our team at Lake View. While personal care is extremely important, occasionally a resident may refuse certain aspects of this, and we must respect their wishes. I can assure you our staffing ratios have always been correct and that our team adopt a whole-home approach when it comes to providing engaging and stimulating person-centred activities for our residents to enjoy.

Mum was accepted into Lakeview.
I and my sister looked around and thought immediately that it was the one for Mum.
Fantastic people work there, both male and female, which I think is so important as it shows diversity.
The people who work there are friendly, approachable, informative, kind, caring
and fun.
My mum's first Christmas was full of care, compassion, fun, activities, love, joy, thoughtfulness and dignity.
The individuals who work at Lakeview are compassionate, lovely characters, passionate, caring, thoughtful, innovative, individual approach and happy.

Always willing to help with questions. Nothing is too much trouble - absolutely outstanding.

Mum arrived at Lake View in February for respite initially, then stayed and has been there ever since. She was not well at first and we feared she would deteriorate, but the home staff have looked after her extremely well. She is now well, happy and settled. The staff not only care for the residents
but enrich their lives with activities and events too. Families are welcomed and also invited to attend events. It is a lovely home and the staff are brilliant.

During the last couple of months, my Mum has had quite a few issues relating to her health, on every occasion the staff have noticed and immediately called for medical assistance (each time an ambulance has been required). The staff have stayed with Mum ensuring she is comfortable and not anxious whilst
waiting for the ambulance to arrive, they have had the correct paperwork and medical notes to hand to give to the paramedics and have also given personal observations to what the health issues are as Mum suffers with dementia and gets confused easily. Since being at Lakeview Mum has deteriorated rapidly with her mental capacity but the carers providing her care try and keep her engaged and encourage her to take part in activities. It is a care home I would very happily recommend. All staff from managers down to the handyman and domestics all respect and engage with all residents, something that not always happen in other homes.

My dad came for a short respite stay at Lake View he really enjoyed the food and said the staff were fantastic. I’m a full-time carer for my dad so finding a home where I could see he was well looked after and happy was my priority. Will definitely be looking to rebook more respite care in the future.

Lakeview looked after Mum for 6 years until her death at the home in October. Throughout her time there she enjoyed days out, numerous activities, great food and above all kindness, compassion and companionship from the brilliant staff. The staff went above and beyond during her final days making a
difficult time as comfortable as possible for our family. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

My wife has settled in very well. She has a ground-floor room with a door into the garden. We have sat outside when the weather has been suitable, she likes this.
The premises, including my wife's room, are always very tidy.
Now her meals have been reassessed, she is very happy with her meals and
the choices.

Staff cannot spend enough time "caring" due to the amount of time spent on cradles. The menus sent out by the dietician are not diabetic friendly with options containing carbs for lunch and dinner which is unsafe for a diabetic to consume at every meal.
Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Lake View Residential Care HomeThank you for your review. We are so sorry you feel this way. Our electronic care planning system kradle is there to give our staff more time to spend with our residents, as they record information at the point of care. We invited you and fellow residents to sample our winter menus and recommend any changes which could be made, and our chef is always happy to offer alternative dishes if anybody would like something different to the menu of the day. Please do speak to our home manager directly with any concerns, her door is always open.

At the time of this review, Mom's room has suffered a leak/water damage. She has had to move to a temporary room on a different floor. This seems to be managed ok but there is no indication to complete repairs. Generally, Mom is well known and understood by staff who provide excellent care. Staff are
approachable and friendly and efforts to raise funds and provide a range of activities are welcome. The environment is clean, friendly and supportive.
Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Lake View Residential Care HomeThank you for your review and your praise for our team. We are sorry there has been a delay in repainting the ceiling following the leak, which was caused by damage following the recent storms. While the leak has stopped and your mother has settled back into her bedroom, with our maintenance operative checking the area daily, we are waiting for some final work to be completed before repainting the area. We hope to update you imminently but in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to speak to our home manager directly with any concerns.

Mum initially went into Lake View for respite care in February 2023 but she has ended up staying there. Mum's dementia means that she doesn't really understand where she is or why she is there, but every time I visit her she seems happy. She has a lovely-sized room that looks out towards the lake and
a nice ensuite bathroom. I was initially quite worried about how she would settle in, but from the very first day, all of the staff have been absolutely brilliant with her and they have put my mind at ease. Whenever I visit, the staff always seem really happy and upbeat, taking part in activities with the residents, singing and dancing with them and treating them with the utmost kindness and compassion. I'm always kept informed about everything to do with Mum and for the first time in nearly three years, I am able to go on holiday without worrying.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.799)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.799) out of 10 for Lake View Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.799 for Lake View Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (301 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 358 Ratings = 4.799
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lake View Residential Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
