The team at Lake View are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents and supporting them to have a very active role to play in how their home is run. There are resident ambassadors, who do everything from showing new residents and their families around their home, to providing feedback at residents’ meetings.

The home is thriving, with so many activities to enjoy, from karaoke, pamper sessions and a knit and natter group, to movie afternoons with popcorn in the home’s cinema, trips out into the community, pub lunches and animal visits.

The local community are embraced into life in the home, from school children who take part in activities, to a community choir, musicians and entertainers who regularly perform for the residents. And the home has its own piano for anyone who fancies some spontaneous music!

Lake View has its own a hair salon, with a mobile hairdresser visiting weekly, as well as a coffee shop for ‘Tea Tuesdays’ and relaxing with loved ones, who are welcome at any time.

The beautiful landscaped gardens have raised planters and wheelchair friendly pathways. This summer the residents have loved growing their own fruit and vegetables from seed in the polytunnel, harvesting their produce for the chef to use in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement.

Mealtimes are another highlight, with home-cooked meals and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. In the dining rooms residents enjoy everything from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays, plus themed menus for special occasions.

The spacious bedrooms are beautifully furnished and decorated, with walk-in wet room showers.

Loved ones are embraced into life in the home and are welcome at any time. And there is a private family and friends Facebook page, where they can see what the residents have been enjoying doing, even if they can’t be there in person.

I am more than happy with my husband being at Lake View, it's like a hotel. If I could give it 5 stars, I would.

On behalf of all the family I would like you to know our profound appreciation for the way in which you care for my father and your professional approach in making us all so welcome when we visit. I can see my father is settled and happy. He gets the stimulation he needs, the home is light and airy,
beautifully decorated and well equipped.
The day my father moved in we all felt anxious and did not know what to expect. Those fears have disappeared. This is down to excellent communication between all professional bodies involved.

There are some very positive aspects to the home and some staff that take the care of residents very seriously and have an excellent attitude. The care is however not suitable for Alzheimer's patients or respite care as they need time to get to know the patients well and understand their needs and requirements
and get into suitable routines. Having sight of and agreeing a comprehensive care plan is in hindsight essential, as internal communications could be improved. For us it was more stressful than having to care for him at home and it took many days for us all to recover from the experience, but that was just our unfortunate experience. It is important to note that there were happy residents there and had it not been for half term in the first week with key staff on leave, I would hope there would have been many activities that he would have enjoyed. Their invoicing system is also unnecessarily distressing but would only be an issue when privately funding.
Reply from Leigh Smithson, Home Manager at Lake View Residential Care HomeThank you for your feedback - and for some lovely comments about our team. I am sorry to hear that you felt our home was unsuitable for respite stay for residents with Alzheimer’s because of the need to spend time to get to know them well. Whether someone is staying with us for respite care or permanently we always complete a thorough and detailed assessment and individual care plan and take the time to get to know them so we are able to deliver the most appropriate care with kindness. I appreciate your father is back at home now but if you would like to discuss anything further please do feel free to contact me.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.799)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.799) out of 10 for Lake View Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.799 for Lake View Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (301 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 358 Ratings = 4.799
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lake View Residential Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
