The resident was still in bed when we visited at lunchtime. Apparently, he has bed sores so is only dressed every other day! We could not find a nurse to check his dental records following a recent visit from the dentist. This is the second time in a week. Another member of staff confirmed a broken
tooth. The family has concerns about the new low beds and crash pads. The resident doesn't know the names of any members of staff and just lays in bed all day, watching TV with little interaction and no one-to-one stimulation.

Be assured that both the use of a low bed and crash mats, along with the repositioning regime for your relative, is in response to the completion of a thorough and individualised care plan in which the potential risk to him has been evaluated by a completely qualified individual. The outcome of the risk assessment will always determine the least restrictive method of caring for our residents which reduces the likelihood of any harm coming to them whilst at the same time minimising the potential outcome of the identified risk. We currently have a strong, long-serving team of permanent staff who are allocated daily by management to ensure that continuity and skill range is effectively delegated throughout the home. I would welcome the opportunity to speak to you in person about your concerns so that any further misunderstanding can be avoided.

Mum has been a resident in the home for 4 months since initially needing urgent respite care. She settled in well, feeling safe and looked after during respite and she decided to stay as a permanent resident.

Mum has settled in well to Darwin Court. We were anxious that she may not like it, especially as she has to have a nursing room. The staff have been very good with her and she is able to mix with the guests in the residents' area during the day. She is allowed to have her dog visit which she enjoys,
as do the other residents.

Mum has settled in really well and is happy here. Staff and management are always willing to help, kind and thoughtful and nothing is too much trouble. Mum has a lovely room with a garden to look out on with a sunny aspect. The only disappointment was the curtains which we hope will be addressed soon.

Very warm welcome by the staff on the initial look around and informative visit. The manager also introduced himself. This was a massive difference from other placements and gave a good impression from the start. Genuinely appeared interested in meeting my mom's needs. Prompt assessment arranged. Lovely
environment and my mom settled very quickly. The staff are very caring. I dreaded putting my mam in a care home, however, she has flourished since admission one week ago.

Aware of Covid restrictions but disappointed in the lack of staff on the floor, which can disorientate my mum. Mum has gained a lot of weight but isn't losing it very quickly, which isn't helping her chronic cellulitis in both legs. She's gone from a size 12/14 to 18/20 in a year.

I have found that the care home is very good. However, agency staff have no continuity with residents and tend to just do the bare minimum in relation to buildup up a rapport with residents. I understand that agency staff are an essential resource for this home but their use should be minimised where

There is a very friendly atmosphere in the home, starting with the reception staff who are always welcoming and exceptionally helpful. My mother is happy with the care she receives but finds the food to be of poor value for the money she is paying. The dishes are often not to the liking of elderly people
and some of the choices on offer do not constitute a healthy diet. A more worrying concern is that, during the course of this year, several articles have gone missing from her room.

The menu provided at Darwin Court has been developed by a team of highly skilled/experienced chefs and nutritionists to ensure a well-balanced diet, complemented by an appealing array of meal options. If the menu is not to a residents liking, they can request a separate meal, which the chef will make every effort to accommodate. Our seasonal menus are also shared and discussed with the residents in advance and subjective opinions are expressed to the catering team. It is with regret that some personal items are unaccounted for, despite efforts to locate these. My father has suffered considerably and been in large amounts of pain at times in the past. Despite there being a small number of care workers showing empathy and care this is not consistent across all staff members who have been slow to react. We’ve been told that there are staff shortages, consequently,
it is patients that suffer.

I am very sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the alleged slow response time of some of our care staff at times when your father has been experiencing discomfort. It is regrettable that we have come to learn of your concerns through this media and that we were not made aware internally in order to allow us the opportunity to investigate the matter so that any substantiated allegation may be addressed and action is taken to ensure this did not continue. The concerns have also come as an unexpected surprise to us as we have only recently spoken directly with your father's next of kin, who appeared very satisfied with the interventions provided to ensure that the relevant health professionals were consulted and that actions taken by Darwin Court resulted in a positive outcome for your father. We are very eager to speak to you directly so that we can gather further information that may substantiate your concerns.

  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I joined the Avery Healthcare Family in 2019 having spent my whole working life in the care sector, from a retirement village to care homes.


Before joining Avery, I was an Administrator Assistant for another care provider.


After leaving school I went to college to complete my Level 2 and Level 3 in Health and Social care.


I would consider myself as kind, caring, hard worker and empathetic. In my spare time, I like to spend time with my family, read and go for walks.


I am very proud to be part of the Darwin court family.
