My wife has been at Windsor Street for 5 years. Overall the care has been good - care staff quality is excellent but shortages occur, I recognise that is generally so nationally.

As a self-financer, the payment of high fees is problematic, particularly as a significant proportion goes to subsidise

underfunded social services. The total lack of financial support by the government is scandalous.

My mother arrived at Windsor Street at short notice and at a crisis point. She remained there longer than expected as the care got her through that crisis and for 5 weeks I was able to feel confident that she was safe. All the staff were kind, caring and supportive and I was able to be with my mother
at her peaceful end. I could not have wished for better.

My mother has been a resident since September 2018. I had struggled with her having to go into permanent care but I need not have worried. The care she has received has been nothing short of exemplary. Each member of staff has treated her with kindness, respect and dignity. She has been treated with
great patience and never as if she is a nuisance. Although she has advanced dementia, she is respected as a person and member of her little community. I couldn’t have wished for better care for her.

The standard of cleanliness is a credit to the domestic staff and the quality of food is also very good.

In Dec 2016 my step-mother became a resident and she was regularly visited by me, my father and friends. In Nov 2018 my father became a resident due to health changes, but fortunately, he is familiar with the care centre. Both are in safe hands and receiving excellent care.
All the carers and staff
show compassion, respect, dignity and are familiar with their backgrounds so treat them as individuals. They welcome all visitors and keep me fully informed on the well-being of my parents.
Their medical, dietary, emotional needs are met. A dedicated Doctor visits weekly as well as ad-hoc when required.
Dementia trained staff and Admiral Nurses are always available to answer any questions and concerns.
A regular and varied activity program, including 1-1, group and trips, is successfully run by the Activities team.
All this is managed by the General Manager and her team who I want to thank all for their care, professionalism and dedication.

We have been made to feel like family here. Mum has been treated with love, respect and dignity. Nothing has been too much trouble and we as carers have been supported too. I am full of gratitude for the wonderful staff who have made the last two months so lovely for us all.

The care extended to both of my parents whilst at Windsor Street has been excellent. Although bed bound for the past two and a half years, my mother does not suffer from bed sores at all and her skin is beautifully pink and soft (better than mine!). My father's care too has been excellent, particularly
in the past few weeks when he has been declared at end of life stage. Attending the resident/relative meetings really gives you a proper feel for all that goes on in the home and how hard the staff work to motivate/entertain and re-assure patients. It was undoubtedly the very best choice for my parents and probably the best facility in Cheltenham.

Only fabulous things to say about Windsor Street! Strong leadership and well-trained, kind and considerate staff create a happy atmosphere. My relative had a hospital stay. During this time the care leader from Hampton Wing was in contact with the hospital and with us to check on progress and to ensure
that the resident would be discharged back into the care of Windsor Street as soon as possible. This lady also took time out of her own weekend to make a hospital visit, along with treats! It was a stressful time with our relative in hospital, but having this level of support was amazing. On return from hospital, the improvement in my relative was incredibly fast, due to the first class care given by the staff at Windsor Street who arranged specialist equipment and food. I am very grateful for the way my relative is looked after. Having a relative in Windsor Street means joining a very wonderful family of staff and residents which can be surprisingly enriching when least expected.

My mother has been a resident of Windsor Street for 4 years. Her care has been excellent and she is as happy and settled as she can be. Her ulcerated legs which she had for over 7 years have healed thanks to the dedication and care of the nursing staff. They make sure her dietary needs are looked after
and she is always clean. She has developed very good relationships with all the staff and I am sure these have helped to keep her as cognitively able as she is.

My friend has now been in Windsor Street for 18 months and during that time she has received exceptional care and attention. She recently had her 91st birthday. The carers bought a present and flowers, sang happy birthday, with live musical accompaniment in her room and the chefs produced a very fine
Victoria sponge which was delicious.
She is now able to sit a little while in a supportive chair which she enjoys. This is a care centre that 'cares', the staff are always happy to pop in and pass the time of day and interact with her.
The activities team arrange regular musical events and one to one book reading.
Overall, this is an excellent care centre and is a credit to the Manager and Admin staff.

Staff kind and helpful, mostly very caring - I felt looked after.
Facilities very good and easy to use.
Food quality variable - soup watery - porridge good for brick making - pastry solid.
Also a difficulty providing for special requirements.
On the whole a friendly, caring place to stay.

My father was cared for in Windsor street for 3 weeks whilst he recovered from an illness, the care was exceptional and they really could not do enough for him. The facilities were wonderful and all new and fresh. It is a new purpose built care home so ideal so frail elderly people to move about freely
or with assistance.
We were allowed to bring our elderly black labrador onto Balmoral and she was very much loved by the staff and some of the other guests in the suite. Having the dog to visit really cheered up my father and helped him feel more at home.
In the care home, there is a purpose built bath so that elderly people can have help to have a bath which is a real luxury if you are no longer able to in your own home. My father found this a real treat and was truly pampered during his bath times.
The food was delicious and main meals are served at lunch time.
We really cannot fault the care given and the service provided, definitely a safe and caring place to be.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.855)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.855) out of 10 for Windsor Street Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.855 for Windsor Street Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (212 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 242 Ratings = 4.855
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Windsor Street Care Centre is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 81 registered maximum number of service users is 16.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
