My aunt has been a resident since July 2023 due to her dementia. My aunt previously had respite here back in 2018 and we were so impressed with the level of care she received, so we decided that this would be the place she would go to when her dementia deteriorated. My aunt is very happy here. The food
is wonderful and caters to her health diet, she has always been very particular about what she eats. The home is always meticulously clean. As I work in healthcare, I have a keen eye for spotting things and I have not seen one thing which has caused me to have any concern. The staff are very caring, they show much compassion to the residents. The residents always seem happy and there is a communal feel with them mixing. The residents are always clean, this shows the level of care received. I can only recommend The Potteries from mine and my aunt's experience.

My mum came to The Potteries in December 2023 for respite care. All the staff from the laundry, carers, activities team right through to management treat the residents like family and even support the residents family. No matter what time of the day you arrive visiting there is a really good vibe and
you are made very welcome. I made the decision for my mum to become a permanent resident after the eight weeks respite for her own well-being and safety

The Potteries is a lovely care home. My mum has been there since May 2023. The staff are fabulous and the facilities are great. There’s a varied entertainment programme and lots of trips out. I really can’t fault it!

As the family of a resident, we can not praise highly enough the care that our mother received during her stay and especially during the last weeks of her life. The staff were caring and supportive of the whole family and Mum. It was just a shame she never got to see the completed renovations at The
Potteries.

My mum had a stroke, but still has full mental capacity and has been a resident at The Potteries for 3 months. Mum settled in very quickly, which has been due to the commitment, understanding and patience of all staff involved with Mum's care. Everyone seems so well cared for, and it's so good to see
Mum and other residents enjoying the varied activities that are organised throughout the day. Mum's meals are varied and she tells everyone how wonderful the food is. As a family, we are so grateful to have peace of mind that Mum's wellbeing is carried out with dignity, respect and integrated quality support from the whole team at The Potteries.

I have found The Potteries a welcoming and caring environment for my friend. My friend settled quickly into her new setting, and the staff recognised her needs, and she received appropriate care both for her immediate needs and for her ongoing care. My friend is very content in her ‘home’ and enjoys
the many activities that are on offer.
I have also found the team easy to talk to, and I was given the help I needed at a time when I felt a bit out of my depth!
Thank you to everybody at The Potteries!

I have been volunteering within my job role and visiting the Potteries for the past 6 months or so. The care the carers have for the residents, the activities they have, the cinema, the hair salon, it's just lovely. Everyone seems well cared for, and it is always clean and tidy. Oh, and the food is
amazing from what I've seen.

The respite care was very good for the 15 nights. The staff were all very kind and welcoming. My friends that visited were all made welcome and the coffee shop is a lovely venue to meet with delicious coffee and exceptional cakes! My bedroom was comfortable and bright with plenty of desk space and cupboards.
Everywhere was clean and well-maintained.

General cleanliness is good. Found the food choices to be below expectations and didn't like the meat dishes. The staff were very good and very patient. Enjoyed the activities.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at The PotteriesThank you for your feedback and for the positive scores around the care team and activities. We are sorry to hear the food offering did not meet your expectations. We endeavour to offer a range of dishes here at The Potteries, with at least two choices of main course. Our chefs ensure that alternative menu options are always available and if there is nothing that appeals to you, they will happily cook something different upon request. The home manager will arrange for the chef to discuss your preferences with you so that we can create a meal plan that will suit your individual requirements. Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review, we appreciate your feedback.

Mum was the first MND patient at this care home. The staff had a lot to learn but made the effort to get training from the local MND nurse specialist. They also listened closely to Mum as her needs changed and asked palliative care professionals for guidance. There were occasional hiccups due to a lack
of understanding from some of the staff. The management team worked hard to get staff up to speed and trained.
The home’s general running is excellent food, cleanliness, and activities are all great. I always felt welcome at any hour.

My aunt was a resident at The Potteries for two and a half years and right up until she sadly passed away in September 2022. The care she received there was totally five-star. Mum joined The Potteries in the Summer, and much to our surprise, she settled in really easily. This was entirely down to the staff and how welcome they made her (and us) feel. Nothing was too much effort, from painting her nails, to ensuring she had her favourite chocolate custard! They all took the
time to get to know her as a person and to learn about her past. Mum really enjoyed socialising with everyone and really came out of her shell. Sadly Mum's condition worsened over the next few months and all the staff went above and beyond to make sure that her last few weeks were comfortable, pain-free and respectful. They treated her with dignity and with love, right up until the end. As her daughters, we could not have asked for any more and we will always be grateful. I cannot recommend The Potteries highly enough, they are amazing.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.807)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.807) out of 10 for The Potteries is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.807 for The Potteries is calculated as follows: ( (388 Excellents x 5) + (56 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 460 Ratings = 4.807
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Potteries is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I began my social care career as a carer and worked my way up. That’s given me a very helpful perspective and understanding of what my team does. Even now, I’m always ready to roll up my sleeves and help if the need arises.

I believe that effective care is personalised care. Our team gets to know each resident well. We know what they enjoy doing, and we help them to continue to experience those things.

It’s also vital to keep up-to-date with developments in care so that we can bring benefits to residents. We recently took delivery of a Tovertafel, or ‘magic table’, which uses the latest technology to enable residents to play simple, fun interactive games, either on their own or with others. The tables have proven benefits: helping people who are living with dementia to develop their communication and cognitive skills and mobility.
