I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at the Lodge for taking good care of our mother for these past years. A special thank you to her carers who made her stay at the home a memorable one, with lots of care and affection towards her needs, especially during the last few months. My mother came to the home not knowing what to expect after being taken care of by her family for several years. After a short time, it was clear to see that she was welcome,d which felt very comforting and reassuring. During her stay, she had a wonderful time with her family and the staff who made it feel like a special place for her. I recall my sister during the church service, referring to Mum saying that "she was proud to call the Lodge her home".

Where do I start, Buckingham Lodge has made a very difficult decision easy, putting our dear mum into a home was something we never wanted to do.
Unfortunately, it got to the point we had no other choice.
From the moment Mum went there for respite, we knew it was the only place we wanted her to be.
The staff are amazing, I've never seen anything but genuine care and compassion.
Mum has struggled to settle in, but they have helped her every step of the way.
Obviously, things have been difficult in the last few months, but not once have I had any worries about the care she is receiving without us there.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you all do.

My mother originally went into Buckingham Lodge for respite care with a view to long term if she settled. The respite was for one month, and during this time, Mum was looked after very well. I was also given support as when I decided it was in Mum's best interest to become a permanent resident it was still a very difficult decision to make with the usual emotions such as guilt. The staff were amazing to both Mum and me. Ten out of ten!

Mum was exhausted and struggling to look after Dad. We finally came to the decision that Dad needed to move into a care home, and we knew where we wanted him to be - 'Buckingham Lodge'. Shortly after making the decision, we were hit with Covid-19 and lockdown, which made the situation even more difficult, but despite some very hard decisions and after speaking with the home manager, who gave us lots of reassurance, Dad moved in on 13th April 2020. The home itself is welcoming, bright and immaculately clean. The staff have been very supportive and have worked hard to ensure Dad's first few weeks have gone well. Although we have not yet been able to visit due to Covid-19, the staff have been available to talk to whenever needed and kept us updated with newsletters. We look forward to seeing Dad in his new environment when restrictions have been lifted. All staff have worked so hard and successfully kept their residents safe at this time, and I commend them for their efforts.

My mum has been a resident for over 18-months, and as a family, we have all been very pleased with the way she has been looked after. The care delivered by the staff is really exemplary; they are really caring and look after mum with dignity and respect. The only negative comment would be that sometimes communication can be a little slow, but that’s being picky!

What matters, is the level of care and at Buckingham Lodge, they deliver it really well.

The administration has appeared to improve considerably in recent months, however, communication to get direct information regarding a resident is quite difficult. This has, of course, become more of a problem during the current coronavirus situation, when visiting is not possible. It is difficult to get the name of a carer, who has the necessary continuity to give a quick update on a given resident. However, this is not meant as a criticism but more of an observation of something that could be improved. Thank you.

Buckingham Lodge is an excellent care home, my father has been here for two years and during this time I have been happy with his care in a beautiful environment with excellent facilities. The staff are very caring and always welcome me into the home. If I have any issues the team do their best to sort things out. The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming.

I would recommend this home to others although I feel there is a very high staff turnover which I don’t think helps with the smooth running of any home.

The care that is being provided to nan and all the service users is excellent. I know that she is being cared for impeccably especially in these isolating times of covid-19 when we are unable to visit. We receive regular updates from the care home and see lovely photos on social media of the activities the service users are doing with the carers and their birthday celebrations. We are very grateful to the whole team at Buckingham Lodge for providing the help and care which nan requires. A very big thank you to the manager and his team.

Over a very difficult period, the care gran has received has been incredible, she really has been looked after. She loves all the staff but the Home Manager and area Manager especially. She has been a little under the weather recently but as a family, we really feel she has been kept an eye on and how she perks up when getting visits from the managers is great to hear. Regular calls and video calls have been amazing too. Genuinely impressed with the support and care she is receiving.

My Mum has been living at Buckingham Lodge for the last 18-months and we are very happy that she is looked after well, and the environment there is always very friendly which is manifested by the way the other residents always chat to our family whenever we visit. It is good that she has some regular carers that she is fond of but does find it frustrating that agency workers are not familiar with her needs. So the only criticism I would have is that more permanent staff are needed, but I appreciate the difficulties with this. The managers are very quick to respond to any request or concerns that we have, and Mum enjoys being able to attend the Church services and craft sessions that they have arranged. The receptionist is always very welcoming and helpful too. I must say that the way the home has responded to the Coronavirus situation is very commendable,# and pleased that they have helped us stay in touch via video calls with Mum.

When my mother-in-law moved in, the staff were amazing. We were allowed to personalise her room so she had familiar things around her and they settled her in so well. The home is modern, clean and the staff are always smiling, warm and friendly. My mother-in-law always says how much she likes it there and if there are any issues with her health, the staff are straight on it and deal with all concerns with compassion and efficiency. Would highly recommend Buckingham Lodge to anyone whose loved ones need dementia care.

Mum has only been at Buckingham Lodge since November 2019.
As a family, we have found the staff to be very friendly and the standard of care to be first class. We are happy that she is treated with care and empathy and is safe and being well looked after which is always paramount to any family.
The food is very good and Mum has put on weight since she has been there.

We refer to Buckingham Lodge as an elderly persons' first-class hotel!

Meet the Team (3)

Simon Meredith
Simon MeredithJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2022
Hello!

My name is Simon, and I am the Home Manager at Buckingham Lodge.

Having worked across all of the different care sectors, I believe I have gained a good understanding of the dilemmas faced by those in our care and also an appreciation of how daunting it must be to move from the family home into residential care. The thought that I am in a privileged position to be able to influence and have a positive impact on people’s lives is very motivating and rewarding for me. If we can put the individual at the centre of all that we do, we can ensure that our residents are fully involved in all of our decision-making processes, enabling us to deliver care and support that is as individual as they are.

I am also passionate about supporting our staff to develop and to achieve to the best of their ability. If we have a happy and engaged staff team, it follows that we should have happy, well-cared-for residents and a happy home.

I look forward to meeting you soon.

Abbey Gallagher
Abbey GallagherJob Title:DeputyJoined: 2019

Hello,

My name is Abbey Gallagher, and I am the Deputy Manager at Buckingham Lodge care home.

My care journey started in 2019, and I started working in the community as a domiciliary carer, where I was supporting people in their own homes. I then progressed to supervisor and care coordinator. However, I then wanted to widen my knowledge and experience and started my journey with Anchor at Buckingham Lodge in December 2019 as a care assistant. Within 6 months, I progressed to a Team leader and then, in September 2023, became deputy manager.

I have a passion for person-centred care and ensuring that all of our residents are able to be supported in a way in which they are at the heart of all the support we offer them. My favourite time of year at Buckingham Lodge is the Christmas period, when we personally centre all our Christmas presents from the home to the residents and get them gifts that are meaningful or person-centred to them. This has been a tradition that I started as a team leader during Covid lockdown in 2020 and continued ever since!

Away from work, I am married and have a one-year-old daughter who keeps me busy! I also enjoy spending any time where possible in sunnier climates and by the sea!

Laya Korambath
Laya KorambathJob Title:AdministratorJoined: 2021

Hi, I am Laya, and I have been with Anchor for the past five years. I began my career with the organisation as a Receptionist at Nelson Lodge, Cambs. I later moved to Buckingham Lodge, Aylesbury, where I progressed to the position of Home Administrator.

I have always been passionate about meeting people and supporting them to the best of my ability. I have also had the opportunity to work alongside the Home Manager and Deputy Manager, which has helped me further develop my skills and understanding of the home’s operations.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my son and husband. I enjoy going outdoors, walking, and running.
