My twin autistic sons have resided at Hurst House since its first opening. I was attracted to Hurst House because it replicates the style & set-up of a conventional family home.

Both boys presented with problematic behaviour emerging from the chaos of the Pandemic lockdowns but Hurst strove hard

to address those issues. They quickly realised they would benefit from having adjacent rooms.

The boys have settled in very well at Hurst & unless they are ill always seem very happy. One likes to go out regularly while likes to stay home, which is catered for. They also have regular holidays organised by the staff.

I have always found staff very welcoming & friendly. They encourage family visits. It is easy to communicate with managers & they keep parents in the loop with information. On the rare occasions a concern arises, they respond promptly & proactively.

I like that Cascade is able to retain staff and facilitate their career progression. It provides familiar continuity.

The care staff are always friendly and warm towards my daughter. My daughter seems happy and comfortable in the home, e.g. she is always happy to return after a home visit and she is using more shared spaces in the home. There is plenty of space in the home which allows her to have her own private space
when it is needed, which is important to her. Care staff are knowledgeable of different strategies to use to support her in everyday activities. Communication is generally good between the home and us (as parents). We have on occasion had to advocate on her behalf about certain things relating to her personal care or what she needs - as she cannot ask for things herself. It is important to always put yourself in her shoes about what she needs and how she might be feeling.

My 27-year-old son started living at Cascade (Hurst House) Care Home last October 2021. The transition was bespoke for my son, I feel that the management and staff really listened and took on board my concerns from my son moving there after living at home with me.
The support they gave us was amazing
and a very smooth transition, some hiccups to be expected but I felt and still feel comfortable voicing any concerns that I have.
My son has his own brand new flat but spends most of his time socialising with the other young adults that also live at Hurst House.
The atmosphere is amazing and full of life, just like a busy household full of young adults, although I think there are only eight who live there.
Hurst House is also a registered school with an education room where teachers come in regularly and again a bespoke learning plan for each individual.
Hurst House is a bright, spotless, spacious house but also has a snug/sensory room upstairs if anyone wants to relax and chill out.
Everyone seems so happy there.

I was collecting my son for a home visit and I was impressed with the way the staff cared for him, nothing is too much trouble and he obviously realised that he loves his home and is very settled. The home organised his day with plenty of variety, he is engaged with all the staff and residents and he
seems very happy, this is very comforting for his family.

My son has been living at Cascade (Hurst House) Care Home for eighteen months. He shows, at times, very challenging behaviours and becomes very anxious and scared.
He moved from a home where he lived for nine years and was very settled. The transition from there to Hurst House was a difficult one
for him but the transition between the old home and Hurst was planned professionally and with the most care for my son. And since that day the level and the right mix of professionalism and genuine care and support for my son has remained a constant. There have been changes in staff and residents join during the last eighteen months and they have put everything in place to make sure my son dealt with these changes, he was supported so beautifully.
The management and staff are all as one. They are a team, from a family's perspective, that works together to give our young people the best life possible.
You walk into Hurst House and are greeted by big smiles from staff and residents alike. My son in turn continues to smile thanks to them.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.625)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.625) out of 10 for Cascade (Hurst House) is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Cascade (Hurst House) is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.625 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cascade (Hurst House) is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 8 registered maximum number of service users is 1.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 1.6 = 0.625
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
