I have had the pleasure of visiting a friend at this care home, 4-5 times now, and have been able to join her for lunch on 2 occasions.
The ambience and the overall feel is lovely, all the staff who I have had the pleasure to meet have been marvellous, and go above and beyond, special people!
A note
to the chef, food is fab and nutritious, well done.
It's bright cheerful, and the standard of cleanliness and attention to detail is extremely high.
Well done everyone. (Chef see you Wednesday for cake).

My mother recently passed away having lived at Newbury Grove for 5 years having moved from another home in Newbury which we were unhappy with. The difference in the two homes was remarkable. Newbury Grove had so much more space and felt so inviting from the moment we walked in. My mother was on the
Memory Care floor as she had dementia. The home was well managed with the care and dignity of residents being at the heart of everything. Without exception, the quality of care provided was first class and the staff clearly took great pride in their jobs. In the final few days, the palliative care they provided was dignified and considerate to both us as a family and to my mother. We are truly grateful to all the staff at this home and cannot speak more highly of our experience. We currently still have another relative living at the home and are also very happy with their care. I would recommend this care home without reservation to anyone looking for care for themselves or a relative.

It was necessary for Mum to move into a care home and after plenty of research we chose Newbury Grove as it met all our requirements, and we are very pleased we did. From the initial meeting, viewing the room, being shown around the facilities and explaining the different care packages, the whole team
were excellent and extremely professional in their approach. Mum was a resident there for a year and during that time she received first-class care and medical support and was encouraged to join in with all the activities. She felt that this was now her home and quickly made friends. I cannot applaud and recommend enough the efforts of the care, support and nursing staff and the first-class attention she received during her time there. Nothing was ever too much trouble, we received regular updates either by phone if more urgent or personally each time we visited and everyone from reception staff to the manager was always available to promptly deal with any requests or issues.

Over the last 14 months my Dad has received outstanding care. The best-managed care home I have been in. And, as an NHS professional and a relative I have been in a few! The chief nursing staff were all outstanding. Each time I visited Dad, someone made an effort to come and say hello and update me.
This made a big difference as Dad had dementia. The nursing staff and carers were very professional and kind and supportive. There were a couple who were particularly good at managing Dad when his behaviour was difficult. Even if they weren’t rostered in his area, they would always be available to help if needed. The activities coordinators tried very hard to engage him and encourage him to join in. The environment was lovely, particularly the outdoor space. My feeling is that the retention and recruitment was good, always a reflection of good management and leadership. I particularly appreciated the easy access to the manager. Always said hello and dealt with queries promptly.

My mother recently passed away after spending five happy years at Newbury Grove where she was very well cared for by the wonderful staff. I always looked forward to visiting her as there was a lovely atmosphere, I also appreciated the variety of activities and entertainments that were organised by the

My relative stayed stayed in Newbury Grove for five years and was very happy there. The staff took great care of her, became her friends and helped her feel completely at home. In 2023, she turned 100, and the home organised a wonderful party for her. Later that year, her personal funds ran out, and
Newbury Grove helped with the transition to state funding, allowing her to continue in the home. When she passed away a few months later, the staff were marvellous in helping with arrangements, including hosting a memorial meeting in the home attended by relatives as well as a good number of the staff who cared for her. Thank you Care UK and the staff at Newbury Grove for helping make her later years so happy and comfortable.

My aunt has been at Newbury Grove Care Home for two years now and has been very well cared for. I can visit her any time and there is a wonderful area where we can have coffee and cake together and also a lovely garden which she very much enjoys spending time in.
There is always a wide variety of
activities each week for residents to participate in and regular visitors providing musical entertainment. Throughout the year, family members are invited to join their loved ones for BBQs and other celebrations.

Mum initially went to Newbury Grove for respite after a spell in hospital. Despite the fact that she was initially only temporary, the management and staff went out of their way to make her feel at home and more importantly safe. It was therefore an easier decision for her family to make her a permanent
resident. She is now fully settled in her room with items from her home. She has made friends with other residents and enjoys joining in with the activities. Carers and management are friendly and always willing to have a quick chat with her as well as her family. We would have no hesitation in recommending Newbury Grove.

Very sadly, we lost our beloved friend on Easter Day this year; she had been a chosen member of our family for fifty years and she was given to us as a truly most precious gift.
She developed dementia many years ago and had spent the last seven years of life in the most wonderful care home, Gracewell
in Newbury; finding this exceptional home had been such a blessing for us all.
The loving care that she received from each and every one of the members of the team was phenomenal, huge attention to detail and also so much consideration, not only for their residents, but also for their families.
Over the years I really felt that each and every one of us had been cared for, through these sad and difficult times, as close members of the one big family. I cannot thank each and every one of this exceptional team enough for all that they have given to our friend, and to all of us.

It was with great trepidation that our dear mother arrived at Newbury Grove in October 2019. Despite the fact that she was unable to stand unaided, she was insistent that she could remain at home, alone. From the outset, staff reassured us that Mum would settle in and now, due to the patience and
marvellous care and attention she has received, she is now mobile and very happy to join in activities with her fellow residents.
Mum has a bright and airy room where she can sit comfortably, enjoying the view from her window, and chatting to the friendly staff who pop in to see if she needs anything.
The family are kept informed of Mum's progress and the Manager is most helpful and attentive. The excellent level of care has continued through the challenging times that the Pandemic presented and there is always a cheery welcome when family members call in to visit.
It is a great comfort to know that Mum is so happy and among friends. We thoroughly recommend Newbury Grove.
Thank you.

My father was at Newbury Grove for 2 and 1/2 years. From the time we first made contact we had a positive and welcoming experience. The staff are all amazing and take time to get to know each resident. Whenever I visited, the carers had time to stop and chat to me about Dad, he wasn't just a number.
I was very impressed by the care given especially to someone with advanced dementia and no hearing. The home is very well run and I had access to the care home manager if I needed it. I should add that whenever the care home had to contact us they were at pains not to worry us unnecessarily but kept us fully informed. I can't recommend Newbury Grove highly enough.

My mother spent the last 8 months of her life at Newbury Grove, having gone in when her health declined after a fall. The staff were wonderful from the moment she arrived and we will be forever grateful for their friendliness, and the help and care they gave her throughout her stay. During her last
days, the staff looked after her with endless patience, respect and dignity, and even when she was slipping away from us they managed to get some lovely smiles from her. We cannot thank the staff enough for helping us too through this difficult time. We will always have happy memories of the hours spent in the garden, which my mum loved, sitting with her and watching the world go by! I have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending Newbury Grove. Many thanks to all.

We have found the staff at Newbury Grove to be exceptional in their care and understanding when my mother-in-law moved in after hip surgery. She became unwell the following day due to an error in hospital and they promptly called an ambulance and informed us immediately. They then stayed in touch to
find out how she was. After a week she was discharged back to their care and the high level of care has continued for her and our family.

Newbury Grove is a lovely, caring home. It has a modern feel to it and a nice atmosphere. When he was in better health, my father loved the garden. The staff are amazing. Incredibly patient and professional - my father wasn't always the easiest person but I felt that he was always treated with care
and respect.
The general manager is a fantastic leader and navigated the home through the pandemic very successfully with the residents' interests at the centre of all decisions where possible. Much of my contact had to be virtual for geographical reasons and the staff were always very accommodating in ensuring that this happened.
A huge thank you to everyone.

This review is about my mother's 4 years at Newbury Grove/Gracewell. We found it excellent both in residential and nursing care. The environment is safe and stimulating with a wide range of daily activities and brilliant staff running them. Facilities are modern and relevant, the food is excellent and
the accommodation is kept clean and tidy with laundry done regularly. The main point of this review is to highlight how marvellous the staff are. Newbury Grove is highly recommended.

My father-in-law is now a resident in Newbury Grove. As many of you know, the decision to put a loved one in care is not taken lightly. My father arrived in November 2018 from a care home in London, which closed down. I live in Newbury with my family so it was a natural choice. We looked at a few homes in the area but chose Newbury Grove as it was modern, had nice rooms, wide corridors and helpful staff, and visiting times relaxed.
The new General Manager has been fantastic, super efficient, does an excellent job and all the staff like and respect him. He has been outstanding in protecting the home through Covid. Sadly my father died in June of natural causes and had always been very well looked after by the staff, with empathy and kindness. My father was not the easiest at times but was always treated with patience and respect. In my opinion, the staff are amazing, angels in fact, and deserve much praise.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.919)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.919) out of 10 for Newbury Grove is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.919 for Newbury Grove is calculated as follows: ( (250 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 272 Ratings = 4.919
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Newbury Grove is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
