While as a family, we are working through the agony of a much-loved mother with Alzheimer’s - the staff at Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield are providing us with assurance and care for us all. The knowledge that they all have of our mother and the care they demonstrate is exemplary. Our mother is well fed, has a delightful room and patio and has lovely chats and hugs with the carers. In extraordinary circumstances with Covid-19, they have continued to provide the highest professional care despite the huge complications and challenges that they face.

Both our parents have been residents at Gracewell. From the moment they arrived, they and our family were made to feel very welcome. The care they received was excellent with all staff, whatever their role, showing kindness, dignity, friendship and patience. The staff and management were always willing to listen to us as mum and dad's needs changed. Even after hospital admissions, they were always welcomed back with open arms and any adjustments to their needs catered for seamlessly. The activities and wealth of varied good quality entertainment were enjoyed by residents and our family. The building and gardens were modern and of such a good standard I think mum and dad thought they were living in a 5* hotel. We will always remember the care and kindness shown to them and us as a family when their health declined and they passed away peacefully at Gracewell. Since this time we have been back to visit and have always received a very warm welcome. Thank you Gracewell.

Mom passed away very peacefully this week at Gracewell. She was cared for with dignity and respect throughout her short stay. The Gracewell family made her transfer from hospital seamless and welcomed her and her family, with open arms. Mom was a resident on the ground (nursing) floor and every member of staff helped to make her stay the very best it could be. She loved her room which was elegant and beautiful. We had fun times with visiting entertainers and in house activities. During the summer months, staff would sit with residents in the beautiful garden and supply ice lollies which were always welcome. The atmosphere of Gracewell is one of laughter and fun, even when Mom was taken poorly and restricted to her bed, I was supported by staff through those last few days. They encouraged me to eat and drink, provided me with a mattress to sleep on and were always ready with a hug or a shoulder to cry on. Our time at Gracewell was very special and I will be forever grateful to everyone there.

My mother was a resident at Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield for two years ending in July 2019. Mum's care was excellent in every way, and my sister and I felt positively and sensitively included in all decisions, from our very first encounter, to mum's very last minutes. Mum's final days exemplified everything that is great about this care home; always looking out for what we needed or mum needed; never overbearing, always ready to help - staff showed genuine love and commitment to Mum at all times. They also worked very well with the district care team.

This all applied not only to Mum but to the attitude of staff to every resident, many of whom we got to know over the two years Mum was there.

I am familiar with the standards used by the Care Quality Commission and I am amazed that Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield only has a rating of 'Good'. I think they should be rated as 'Outstanding' - they strive for and achieve excellent every day, in my opinion.

When we viewed Gracewell for our friend in January 2018 we knew it was the place we wanted her to live, everything about it the rooms, the whole set up, the staff, the residents, it just felt right. We moved our friend in February 2018 and from the very first second, she was extremely well looked after, cared for and loved. All staff are friendly and approachable, kind, loving and giving and this approach is extended to us as family members to. Sadly we lost our friend in April 2019 and the staff went above and beyond their duties and got us as a family through a difficult time. Thank you Gracewell "Family".

My Father-in-law was a resident for approaching 2 years until his recent demise. He was very well cared for in this beautiful and well-equipped home. The staff were well trained, very caring and compassionate and treated him like part of their own family. They went out of their way to meet his needs and wants with great patience and understanding. Although he didn't take much part, the events and activities provided were well received and seemed very popular with the residents. We were always given a warm welcome as we visited at all times of day and night and the lounge, bistro, gardens and children's room are excellent facilities for family times. We were especially touched by the great sensitivity and dignity the staff gave both him and us in his final days. We are very grateful for all the kindness and consideration shown by all the staff both to father-in-law and to all the family, including his often boisterous great-grandchildren.

Following the loss of my father seven years ago, my 90-year-old mum wanted to stay in her own home as “it’s where my memories are.” We abided by her wishes with care from my sister, myself and carers coming in daily until Mum took the decision herself 12 months ago at the age of 96; “it was time to look at a Care Home”; not an easy decision. After looking at three, we arrived at Gracewell and were blown away by the friendliness of everyone, a true home from home family feeling, so much so the first room that Mum was shown she said; “this is where I want to stay, when can I move in?”
Thank you Gracewell, nothing is too much trouble, Mum is so happy, she loves it and even says she wishes she’d moved in as soon as Dad had passed away and not waited so long. She loves the staff, food, entertainment, her room, even the cat!

Thank you Gracewell, you’ve given us peace of mind. Mum is very well cared for and most importantly, extremely happy.

My dad moved in here after several months in a hospital. Although very poorly he settled in quickly and all the staff were first class. On his first full day the staff dressed as "Beatles - Sergent Pepper" and the next day a cabaret singer came in, both enjoyed by all.
Dad enjoyed the activities and it was easy to interact with the staff.

My mom was very worried about my dad in a nursing home but straight away we knew it was the right place, where we could all visit including young grandchildren. The "Bistro" area in reception was ideal to socialise, which mum enjoyed too. Every member of staff was loving in care. Thank you so much.

My elderly mother has been a resident at Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield for over a year now. Since the day she moved in, she has been treated with the utmost care and respect. All her needs and preferences are met. The nursing staff are very professional, the laundry ladies very patient (she often "mislays" items of clothing), receptionists always friendly and the manageress "hands-on" when needed. Home-made food is of high quality and they can request their own treats eg wine. Food Forums engage residents and Family and Friends meetings give feedback to staff.

My nan moved into Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield for a couple of weeks respite after a stay in the hospital. I can't even explain how amazing Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield is right down to the finest detail, they think of everything. All the staff and management are lovely, they spend time with them and help in any way possible with any requirements from family or residents to make them feel at home. It's so lovely here and the care is outstanding which is what she needed and has improved from it that she has decided to stay permanently which we couldn't be happier about it is so nice to come and visit her here. You feel very welcome.

I'd like to say a huge thank you to all the staff here for the work they do, they go above and beyond.

I came to Gracewell a year ago shortly after it opened in January 2017 and I have no regrets. Being a new build enables me to get around with wide corridors and handrails. The rooms are all ensuite and very comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the food is first class. There is a delightful garden where one can sit out on comfortable seats.

We knew that finding a care home for mum was never going to be an easy journey. Our hearts sank when we visited some of the establishments available as we were novices. Then we found Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield and we were overwhelmed, it ticked all the right boxes. We knew immediately that it was where we wanted mum to be and we haven’t been disappointed.

The staff are exceptional and understand that when a loved one goes into care it’s not just that person who is affected but family and friends too. Everyone is made to feel welcome. It’s not an easy decision for anyone to make but we know we have made the right one for mum. Her safety and care are paramount. If you like luxury, you will love Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield.

Dad had previously been in another care home in a different county. Our experience of Gracewell is the polar opposite of his previous home. Dad is being very well cared for, he is clean and dressed smartly, so looks like our old dad. His skin is moisturised on a daily basis and he is always clean shaven. There are daily activities to attempt to engage the residents and even Dad, who has severe dementia, responds some of the time. As members of dads family, we are always made to feel very welcome.

Thomas Bampfield
Thomas Bampfield Job Title: Home Manager

Working at Bishop’s Manor is a privilege, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of our award-winning team.

Our beautiful home benefits from a strong, experienced management team whose vision, creativity, and commitment enhance the quality of care we provide. Together, we live by the belief that "teamwork makes the dream work," and this shines through in everything that we do.

I am also extremely grateful for the phenomenal nurses who lead each floor with passion and a genuine love for their work. My fantastic care team bring an all-hands-on-deck approach, demonstrating unmatched love, dedication and enthusiasm that amazes me every single day. Their commitment creates an incredible culture that not only enriches the lives of our residents but also brings in referrals and recommendations from the community and the families who trust us.

As someone who has been nominated for awards in our field, I am committed to holistic care that nurtures the whole person. This means taking time to truly listen to residents, understanding their experiences, and responding with compassion and empathy, qualities I believe are at the heart of meaningful care. It’s these moments that make a real difference in a resident’s day.

I am proud to be a nurse and to work at Bishop’s Manor, where every day offers the chance to positively impact the lives of my team, our residents and their families.
