Mum has been a resident of Gracewell/Bishops Manor since 2019. During this time, her dementia has worsened considerably but the standard of care she receives has definitely not. She is treated with dignity and respect by her nursing and care teams who have got to know her very well, and actively encouraged
to take part in a variety of activities which she enjoys. My sister and I have also been extremely well supported on Mum's journey with dementia, from our initial engagement with the admissions manager, the nursing and care staff who are never too busy to listen to our concerns and provide advice, through to the friendly reception team and kind and efficient housekeeping staff.
I have already recommended Bishops Manor to friends with relatives unable to live independently as a safe and caring environment with excellent facilities, and will not hesitate to do so again in the future.

Bishops Manor has been home to my father for the past 18 months. In that time he has been lovingly cared for with genuine affection by all staff and as a family we are grateful for the care he receives. His happiness at Bishops Manor gives the family great comfort.

High standard of care, lovely caring staff and a hotel like environment. Daily activities and good fresh food. My mother is really well looked after and settled now. I'm regularly kept up to date with how she is. Well worth the higher fees.

My Mom came to Bishops Manor in July 2021, needing care due to ongoing dementia/Alzheimer’s. It’s certainly a wonderful home. The staff and management are always so friendly and helpful, when needed. I can rest assured Mom is so well looked after and l have total peace of mind.

I cannot speak highly enough of the team at Bishops Manor.
My mom has been here since the end of August 2021, moving in at very short notice.
With the help of the general manager and the admissions manager, they made this so easy. The general manager sat and chatted with Mom. Her warm, caring and
respectful approach made Mom feel instantly at ease.
On ‘moving in day’, there was a lovely warm welcome from all, what a truly wonderful, kind and caring team.
Mom is eating and sleeping well, which has made a huge difference. She is bright and bubbly, ‘back to her old self’. What was just respite care, I think will now be permanent as Mom is so happy here. She feels safe and comfortable.
The care and support Mom receives from her Bishops Manor family are outstanding. The home is absolutely spotless, and the food and meal choices are fabulous.
There is always a warm welcome, nothing is any trouble for the dedicated management team and all of the dedicated staff.
Thank you all so very much.

My brother became a resident in 2021 after being assessed as needing extra care. We found this home after much searching and my nephew had a look around before we committed to it. We, as a family are so happy we opted for this lovely place and we can’t speak highly enough of them. The care and compassion
they have shown to my brother were truly amazing and we couldn’t have asked for better. My brother had Alzheimer’s and sadly his condition deteriorated but the patience shown by all the members of staff was outstanding. My brother died in March but throughout his final days, they looked after him with gentleness and treated him with dignity and looked after me as I sat with him. The staff even stayed beyond their shift when they knew his passing was imminent and provided comfort to the family. Even as we left the home for his funeral they turned out to say goodbye to him. Unfortunately, my sister-in-law also has dementia but we are reassured to know she will be well looked after.

My mum, aged 84, moved into the home at short notice in January 2022. Despite the difficulties associated with Covid cases and control measures she has settled in really well. The staff are all extremely friendly and very approachable with a willingness to discuss any issues or concerns in an open
and honest way. There is a wealth of experience and support to draw upon which has proved invaluable, particularly during the early settling in transition period. The monthly "Reach" meetings open to friends and family are an excellent way to chat informally with others and share ideas and thoughts whilst the staff provide guidance. The activities programme is a major plus point with a variety of events all aimed at helping mum enjoy life in this new environment. Now the warmer summer months are fast approaching the access to and use of the garden is such a great asset for all the residents.

My review is all positive. The carers and nursing staff were 110-percent. They looked after my Mother through all stages of Dementia and they spoke to me with regard to any changes. Both my daughter and I were kept up to date with changes in my Mother's medicine and physical care. Thank you again, you
made the last two years of her life so special.

Bishops Manor is a very impressive residential care community, offering high-class facilities, activities and of course, care for those in their senior years. My husband has been physically unstable for a very long time. Last year, in September we realised that even with the adaptations that we have made to our home, it was not a safe environment for him. We had visited various nursing care homes, but Gracewell was his preferred choice and he moved in at
the end of September.
It has not been emotionally and easy settling in, but everyone there goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful to him. From the manager, who is always available and caring, no one passes without saying hello. Lockdowns have not been easy, and he has missed seeing family, but he has still felt cared for and noticed. I am always greeted warmly and called by my first name by nearly everyone. I have found it strange to hand over responsibility for my husband to the people at Bishops Manor, but I am kept informed and included in all aspects of his care and comfort. I especially appreciate the activities as at home there was far less to keep him stimulated.

We as a family are very pleased with the way that Bishops Manor have looked after my parents over the past few years. The service is fantastic and the staff are very friendly/helpful to them and nothing is too much for them to help/assist with any enquiries or problems. We appreciate everything that
has been done so that my parents could lead a quality life. It's now just our Mother living there and we would not wish for her to live anywhere else.

Bishops Manor (previously Gracewell) is not what I would call a 'care home'. It is a huge family of carers, staff and residents who make Bishops Manor a loving home for my mum.
I first made contact with the home when I realised my mother was beginning to show signs of dementia, from my first contact
with the staff there I was adamant that this would be where my mum would eventually live.
Having visited Gracewell mum was adamant that she would not want to live with the old people there - she was at this time 87!! However unfortunately her dementia progressed to such a stage that she was not able to live at home anymore.
Since moving into the memory unit she has settled really well, she loves all the activities that are provided and she knows that she is really cared about and for.
As a family member, I am kept informed of her progress and any issues she may have, I also have benefitted from the support the staff have given as I learn how to deal with her dementia.
Thank You, Everyone

Dad has been living at Bishop's Manor for nearly a month now and is being very well looked after. The staff are always friendly and super helpful and as Dad put it himself "they seem to know what I want before I ask for it". After a not so good experience at a previous care home, we are delighted
to see Dad already improving in his physical strength and in his speech. There always seems to be something going on and we're sure this is contributing to his improved mental health. Recently he celebrated a special birthday and we were touched by the fuss everyone made of him, with a party in the Bistro along with cake and fizzy drinks. We are so glad to have found such a caring and supportive home for him and would thoroughly recommend it.

All the carers are friendly and caring. They make my mum feel looked after, especially the activities coordinator. However, the food has fallen in standard and the care home manager is overbearing and intimidating to visitors. If your loved one goes out of the home, staff can be judgemental about them
needing food on their return.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, PA to Marketing Director at Bishops ManorThank you very much for taking the time to submit your review and for your kind words and scores for the care and activities at Bishops Manor care home. In regards to the management in the home, we feel that our other excellent reviews and CQC rating speak for themselves, and would urge anyone looking for care for themselves or a loved one to arrange a show round to see the home and meet the senior team. In 2020, our GM also won an Award for her work at the home. In regards to food, all of our meals are produced fresh in-house by our chef-led team. Our Head Chef, who has joined us from another Care UK home, is incredibly well-regarded – in fact, in our recent Food Forum which we invite all residents to be part of, he had excellent feedback – our menus offer a lot of choice and are planned with the help of residents in the home to reflect meals that they enjoy, so if there’s anything your mother would particularly like to see on the menu, she just needs to let us know and our Head Chef will be happy to add it. As eating regularly and getting the right amount of calories and nutrition each day is important to everyone, but especially those in older age, if any resident has been out late and missed dinner and has not eaten anything when out, we would of course prepare then a meal or smaller snack to make sure they didn’t go hungry, which is the right thing to do – if a resident is hungry at any time, even if they haven’t been out, we’d always make sure we got them something to eat that they’d like.

My mum moved into the home to recuperate after several stays in hospital. She was very happy and content and enjoyed the level of care and support, she decided that she would stay at Bishops Manor. Her health improved hugely, she gained weight and the awful cycle of being sent home from hospital only
to be taken back in after a few weeks stopped. She was at last happy and content. Thank you to all involved.

We were very anxious about finding the right care home for Mum.
From the very beginning, the contact I had with everyone was reassuring and very supportive. Mum was 90 , frail, and living with cancer.
The staff always had time for us when we phoned and when visiting was allowed, and Mum settled in
very quickly.
They turned Mum's life around. She had been lonely at home and missed meeting people and being sociable. At Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield she surprised us by joining in all the activities, basketball, quizzes, flower arranging, the list is endless. She loved getting her hair done regularly. We loved hearing all about it.
The surroundings are equivalent to a five-star hotel.
Very sadly Mums illness caught up with her and she passed away peacefully after three months.
We will never be able to thank all the team enough for all their care. The last months of Mum's life were the happiest we had seen her for a long time. The staff were caring, respectful, and great support to us. We won't forget you.
Reply from Sarah Diamond, General Manager at Bishops ManorThank you so much for your kind words. It was an absolute honour and pleasure to care for your Mum here at Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield. We are so grateful to you for giving us the opportunity to look after her at such an important time in her life.

My 83 year old mother with complex health conditions had a fall breaking 5 ribs. On discharge from hospital, we knew she could not cope at home due to the pain and care needed. After much research we contacted Gracewell. From the moment I spoke to the home admissions advisor I felt confident that placing
Mom in respite there was the right thing, as the level of reassurance and compassion was first-rate. Mom was unsure, but the welcome she was given, the care and dignity (her words not mine) were fantastic, in a period during lockdown when Covid was still a real issue for relatives. We booked a month's respite, and she came out much stronger and healthier than on admission. My main feedback is regarding the communication, with a weekly Zoom with her care team and every phone call we made was answered or replied to instantly, even to her nurse late one night personally with accurate and personal feedback. I am not going to pretend it's the cheapest, but the level of care on offer is first class.
Reply from Sarah Diamond, General Manager at Bishops ManorThank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. Your Mother was a pleasure to care for and we are all pleased that she left Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield feeling healthier and stronger. We believe that communication is key and I am happy that you were able to readily discuss your Mother’s progress with her carers. I look forward to sharing this review with my wonderful team. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.964)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.964) out of 10 for Bishops Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.964 for Bishops Manor is calculated as follows: ( (424 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 439 Ratings = 4.964
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bishops Manor is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Working at Bishop’s Manor is a privilege, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of our award-winning team.

Our beautiful home benefits from a strong, experienced management team whose vision, creativity, and commitment enhance the quality of care we provide. Together, we live by the belief that "teamwork makes the dream work," and this shines through in everything that we do.

I am also extremely grateful for the phenomenal nurses who lead each floor with passion and a genuine love for their work. My fantastic care team bring an all-hands-on-deck approach, demonstrating unmatched love, dedication and enthusiasm that amazes me every single day. Their commitment creates an incredible culture that not only enriches the lives of our residents but also brings in referrals and recommendations from the community and the families who trust us.

As someone who has been nominated for awards in our field, I am committed to holistic care that nurtures the whole person. This means taking time to truly listen to residents, understanding their experiences, and responding with compassion and empathy, qualities I believe are at the heart of meaningful care. It’s these moments that make a real difference in a resident’s day.

I am proud to be a nurse and to work at Bishop’s Manor, where every day offers the chance to positively impact the lives of my team, our residents and their families.
