'I am walking unaided again' exclaimed our father just 3 days after arriving at Lonsdale Mews. He was flourishing in the wonderful caring community Lonsdale Mews is with its haute cuisine, airy private rooms, quiet lounges, buoyant staff and stimulating events programme. There is always a lovely, upbeat
buzz about the place. Staff are clearly passionate and very expert professionals in their roles.
Nothing is ever too much trouble. As a family we are just so relieved and thrilled that a space was available at Lonsdale Mews for Dad. Lonsdale Mews redefines ''Care Home'. Unrivalled in Leicestershire.

My mother joined the Lonsdale family at the beginning of September 2025. She had been a widow for 27 years and had lived alone for the majority of those years. We were very gratified that she settled into her new home very quickly. I believe this was because of the very caring atmosphere promoted by
the management and staff. She made new friends quickly and embraced the wonderful varied activities she was able to join in each day.
Her room is large and cosy; she was able to bring smaller pieces of furniture from home to make it her own. The cleanliness and decoration of her room and ensuite is of a very high standard. My mother has a very good appetite and really enjoys the variety and choices at each mealtime.
Lonsdale is head and shoulders above all the other residential care homes we looked at for my mother. The professionalism and attention to detail is exceptional, the welcoming atmosphere when you arrive in reception is wonderful. There is no way you could not instantly relax and

My mother is a resident and when she entered the facility in the early summer 2023, she was depressed and uncooperative, even hostile towards both immediate family as well as carers. The whole Lonsdale Mews Team got involved at every level delivering advice, support and both medical as well as personal
care.
My
wife and I live abroad and were only able to visit in yearly and the visible change is quite astounding! Since 2023 my mother has blossomed and is a completely different person. She is now engaged, visibly happy and actively participates in the numerous activities, organised by the Lonsdale Mews team.
When we visit we are made to feel immediately welcome and at home and our visits are always positive. My wife and I have the feeling that nothing is too much trouble and that all the staff are dedicated, happy, caring and truly love their jobs. ,
I will finish by simply saying - carry on the great work because what you are doing is exceptional in this day and age!
Reply from Jenny Cartwright, Reviews Team at Lonsdale MewsThank you very much for your kind and thoughtful feedback. We are delighted that your mother's wellbeing has much improved during the few years she has been with us, that you’ve seen such a positive change and how noticeably happy she is.

We look forward to welcoming you whenever you visit!

Mum has been in the care home for almost three years. The carers and everyone who works at the care home seem really kind and caring, learning the names of the residents really quickly. (Heather, Shannon and Yasmin have been particular gems). The food is, I'm told, is usually pretty good (especially
the pastries and cakes in the cafe!, which I can personally vouch for!) and there are events/ entertainments laid on for the residents most days, often two per day.
The corridors and public spaces are wide and the rooms well designed with ease of mobility being to the fore.
If you have to move into a care home, there's a lot to be said for living in this one.

Both my parents have been residents at Lonsdale Mews.
We had to admit my mum and dad for respite very quickly on separate occasions. This was dealt with very promptly with great care and efficiency. I don't know what we would have done if this hadn't happened!
My dad has now been a permanent resident
for 2 years.
I can honestly say that all members of staff are very caring and professional. They take an interest in the wellbeing of my dad and do not seem to just treat it as just a job.
The coffee bar in reception is a definite hit. It's a great place to take your loved one for a chat, coffee and cake (made fresh daily!), it really doesn't feel like a care home, more like a hotel.
Many activities take place around the home, and relatives are invited to join in.
Overall, this care home makes having your loved one cared for as pleasant as it can be in the circumstances!

I am the son-not-in-law of my partner's mother and a regular visitor to Lonsdale Mews.
Sadly, over the last two years, 'Mum' has been a resident; both her physical and mental health have deteriorated; she has Alzheimer's, a very cruel disease.
All the staff understand the challenges involved in dealing
with people living with dementia. All their residents are treated with dignity and respect at all times, and choices are always offered, whether they may be about meals, what clothing to wear, or in which activities they wish to take part.
The place is spotlessly clean, warm when it is cold outside, and furnished to good-quality hotel standards. Housekeeping does a meticulous job.
The food is healthy, varied, and nutritious. The Lifestyle Team does its best to ensure a range of activities, excursions to local attractions, and visits from outside 'entertainers' cater to the needs of an eclectic audience.
I have absolutely no doubt that Lonsdale Mews is well-managed and well-run.

Mum has lived at Lonsdale Mews for over two years. Managers and staff know Mum well and care for her with kindness, fondness and compassion. The Team Leaders talk to me regularly about health matters and Mum's care plan is regularly updated. All care and non-care staff genuinely take pride in their
work. Mum enjoys the varied menu and always has a choice of meal. The home has a homely welcoming feel and is well equipped and maintained. When Mum moves around the home and garden she often comments about what a lovely place it is. This summer we have thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the garden. The Lifestyle team organise daily activities and events. The Home's 5th birthday party was great fun and included everyone. Mum has visited Bradgate park and Quorn Railway Station in the last couple of months. Mum also enjoys being in her room listening to music looking out onto trees outside her window. As family members we feel supported too and very much part of the Lonsdale community.

I visited Lonsdale Mews on the occasion of my Aunty' 100th birthday. As a Registered Nurse I am familiar with what to look for in a care home, and this home didn't disappoint!! It was clean, no odours and the staff we saw on the day treated those who live there with dignity and respect. You could tell
that the staff were passionate about the job they do. All the residents looked at home which is important as it is their home. I cannot recommend this home highly enough. Thank you to the staff that make our loved one's lives enriched, you are amazing.

My elderly mum recently spent 3 weeks in respite care at Lonsdale Mews. This care home is unlike any others that I have visited because it doesn't smell or feel like one. It feels like a home and not at all clinical.
From the very first phonecall to the home I spoke to people who evidently cared for
me as the daughter of an unwell mum as well as my mum. The manager was particularly helpful, caring and professional before and during my mum's stay.
My mum received good quality care while she recovered from an infection, throughout the day and night. The chef very kindly made food to meet her dietary requirements.
I was impressed with the number of activities and events available for residents to attend throughout each day, the well stocked self service cafe and the main garden which was beautiful with plenty of seating.
Mum's room was nicely furnished and it was great that she had her own shower room.
I would definitely recommend this care home.

Mum had such a lovely respite stay at Lonsdale Mews, which meant we could relax and have a break knowing she was being well looked after means the world to us.
Mum room was perfect and with an en suite she even had flowers and chocolate in her room on arrival which was a lovely touch. The care staff
took time to get to know Mum before she stayed and we loved the attention to detail, even over small but meaningful things which made it much more personal. We would definitely recommend it to others and will using it again in the short term but would consider it as a forever home for Mum if we need too.

Mum came to Lonsdale Mews just over a 3 years ago. We checked many homes for mum, but Lonsdale was easily the best. There are activities planned for every day, supported by 4 lifestyle coordinators, which is key to keeping my mum energised, engaged and happy. Lonsdale is a modern, clean, spacious, very
well-equipped home that is user-friendly and secure. The food choice and variety is excellent and always cooked and presented to the highest standards. Importantly Lonsdale is dog-friendly, so mum gets to see her dog most days.
However, the absolute highlight is the professional, attentive, respectful and caring team that looks after my mum. Everyone cares, goes the extra mile and nothing is too much trouble.
My final observation is that after being out with my mum when I bring her back to Lonsdale Mews, I am returning her to a comfortable, safe environment where she is treated like a VIP and receives the best possible care from a fantastic team or people who really care.
Thank you.

My mother in law moved to Lonsdale Mews last year, initially for a 2 week stay which then turned into a permanent residency. She was very anxious, withdrawn and underweight when she arrived but the care and attention she has received in the last 6 months has brought about an amazing transformation.
She has put on weight, has made lots of friends and is participating in lots of the activities and trips out. The staff are always on hand and are extremely caring and skilled in looking after her physical and emotional wellbeing. There is always a lovely atmosphere in the home and lots going on and I can't recommend Lonsdale Mews highly enough.

After the death of our father, my mother wanted to stay in the family home. She stayed for almost two years with visits from a local home care agency. Unfortunately losing Dad had caused a noticeable deterioration in Mum's confidence and ability to cope. Her health began to suffer, she became anxious,
lost weight and the situation became very worrying.
My sister and I made the decision to bring Mum closer to us and approached Lonsdale Mews care home in December 2024 . Mum was offered a place, initially for a short period to see if she liked it and decided to stay permanently.
The care Mum has received has been second to none. She has made new friends, the friendly staff are building Mum's confidence back up and she's been encouraged and now enjoying many of the activities
Lonsdale provides.
The result of our decision has seen a remarkable improvement in Mum's health and happiness.
Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Lonsdale for their support.

The whole team at Lonsdale have been welcoming and kind since Dads arrival in July 2021. The Beacon team are attentive and friendly and nothing is too much trouble (ensuring utmost dignity and care) especially when dealing with Dad's ongoing needs as he ages. We have been kept informed of every change
in his health and the team leaders are excellent at liaising with the local surgery. Their rapport with Dad and family members is very appreciated and the support offered to families is exceptional. Other members of staff should not be forgotten: kitchen, housekeeping and admin are also integral to life at Lonsdale, chatting and joining in the many social events, giving the feeling of "family" and that residents are not forgotten at the end of their shifts. The lifestyle team are amazing at arranging events, talks, trips and birthday parties. The home is beautifully decorated, retaining a comfortable, exceptionally clean and welcoming atmosphere. I would highly recommend.

The word that comes to mind when I think of Lonsdale Mews is kindness. The staff go out of their way to offer support to the residents - whether this relates to activities of daily living, entertainment or just making time for a chat. When visiting my relative, I am made to feel very welcome too.
Activities
are arranged to meet the interests of the residents - yet there is also the opportunity for quiet time if this is preferred.
The premises are spotless and the gardens well maintained. Food is well presented and the menu is varied.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother in law moved to Lonsdale Mews recently and we found a place where she can be happy, safe & secure. Lonsdale Mews provides a warm, compassionate, and outstanding place for residents and their families. All staff are kind, friendly, respectful, and consistently demonstrate genuine care and compassion.
They take time to know each resident well, creating strong, trusting relationships making a real difference in daily life. The rooms are clean, cozy, and warm, personalized to reflect each resident's preferences, helping them feel right at home. Residents are encouraged to interact, talk, & share together, supported by staff who add to a sense of community. Social\recreational programs are meaningful & inclusive, residents are often invited to collaborate/share ideas. Activities include outings and engagement with the community, keeping life vibrant/connected. Meal times have choices to suit every preference and diet. Families are always greeted warmly/supported. Exceptional!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.974) out of 10 for Lonsdale Mews is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 71 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 71 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.974 for Lonsdale Mews is calculated as follows: ( (828 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 849 Ratings = 4.974
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lonsdale Mews is based on 71 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 71 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I’m a Registered Mental Health Nurse and was a Dementia and Safeguarding Lead in a nursing home before I joined the Lonsdale Mews team. As a brand new home, Lonsdale Mews looked like an incredible place to work, and it offered exciting new opportunities.

Working with older people is incredibly rewarding, and my favourite part of the day is spending time with residents and their families, getting to know them. We’re a big home team, so it’s good to take time to get to know colleagues better, too.

While being adept at all things care-related is vital in this role, it’s also important to have strong communication and people skills. What we do is all about people, so I always aim to be approachable, open and fair.

When I’m not at work I enjoy going to music concerts and the cinema. I also love my holidays!
