I'm so happy to have found Reigate Grange! We needed a temporary assisted living solution for our mother and Reigate Manor ticked all the boxes. I met a few of the staff - the manager, carers and catering staff - and they were all upbeat and cheerful making for a very positive environment. The rooms
are very well appointed and I was impressed with the facilities - a cinema room, a lovely restaurant, coffee shop, piano bar area and even a salon. The food is exceptional too. Overall the place had a lovely vibe to it and my mother is extremely happy there. Thanks so much to all of the Reigate Grange team.

I am delighted with the care my mother receives at Reigate Grange.
All of the staff, from the maintenance team, the cleaning and laundry staff, the managers and the restaurant team to the carers themselves, are so friendly and kind. The activities team are fabulous; I can't fault them. Nothing is
too much trouble for the staff throughout the home, and everyone is very sincere in their aim to provide good care for Mum.
There are some very slight niggles that I have, but I believe that these are going to be dealt with in the near future, and I will be 100% happy with Mum's care. I'm so pleased Mum is where she is.

I have been visiting the Grange since February, and it always has a very inviting appearance, and the staff are always very pleasant and helpful. The accommodation is very nice, the food is good, and there is always so much going on for the residents in such a lovely setting.

My Dad was at Signature for a short time. We had informed the home of his history of aggression and alcoholism which they assured us they could cope with.
It became clear quickly they could not. We would receive multiple calls from Dad saying he feared for his life and safety. He made frequent escape
attempts from the home and succeeded in escaping over a back fence. In the months he was there the home never even hung up his pictures which stayed on the floor.
Having seen the revelations of abuse in the home we are glad that he was asked to leave. This home is not up to standard and not worth the massive price tag when the care is not good enough.
Reply from Signature at Reigate Grange, Care Team at Signature at Reigate GrangeIt is always a very difficult decision when a placement in a care home can no longer be maintained.
We are sorry that despite working closely and collaboratively with other external healthcare professionals, we could not meet your father’s complex needs at Reigate Grange in 2022.

This Care Home from the outside looks lovely, but this is where it ends if you have someone here on the dementia floor Hilltops. The visits and video calls and pictures I was able to have showed things are far from caring and safe. When things went wrong here the management didn't correct the problems
of the staff for their wrongdoings. My friend's mum suffered from dehydration, along with being given appalling food that you would not give a dog. Safety is a joke here with trip hazards I have a picture of in her own bathroom. My friend's mum suffered from poor care that resulted in stays in hospital which could have been avoided along with other injuries she suffered. She suffered medication problems that were highlighted in the CQC Report published 31st May-22. My mum's friend who was like a mum to me growing up, staff treated her with no respect, poor care in this place as published by a national newspaper and on social media. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Reply from Reigate Grange, Management Team at Signature at Reigate GrangeThank you for taking the time to write a review, and we are disappointed that this was your experience. What you describe falls far short of the empathetic, caring relationships we seek to build with each of our residents and their loved ones at Reigate Grange.
We work constructively with any resident, relative, or loved one who raises a concern about the care they receive, doing so immediately to address the nature of the issue as soon as it is brought to our attention. Referring to the experience of your Mother’s friend, our team at Reigate Grange and senior colleagues at Signature worked closely with her family throughout her stay at Reigate Grange.

We operate a zero-tolerance policy on the behaviour identified in the media report you refer to, and as a care provider we took all possible steps to ensure we acted very quickly to deal with this. I wish to make clear that these rogue individuals, who had passed pre-employment checks, left the care home as soon as we were informed of their conduct. They exhibited extremely isolated behaviour by not demonstrating the high quality of care our team delivers to all of its communities each and every day.

Supported by our comprehensive safeguarding policy, residents, their relatives and our team members, are protected by:
-    CCTV being deployed in our homes’ communal areas, which is monitored and used as part of disciplinary procedures when poor practice is identified.
-    Signature deploys its own covert cameras to secretly monitor staff behaviour when there are concerns about practice, or when residents have unexpected or unexplained injuries. This footage is then reviewed, and appropriate action is taken. Deployment of the covert camera is carried out once permission has been obtained by the family in question
-    All of our homes are subject to independent, CQC-style inspections by a contracted quality assurance company.
Led by our head chef, our catering team prides itself on delivering seasonal menus, developed using the highest quality food, locally sourced produce, designed to support residents’ specific nutritional needs. We are committed to working in partnership with our residents and their relatives, and do take onboard your comments surrounding your experience.

I also wish to set out that we work constructively with our regulator, the Care Quality Commission. We welcome any guidance they provide and always seek to address areas identified for improvement.

Finally, we strongly encourage residents, relatives and loved ones to present any feedback on the care provided by the Reigate Grange team in writing, by phone or in person. We also offer the option to contact senior team members, outside of the home, who can provide additional support if it is required, as well as having a comprehensive complaints process that includes independent auditing.

At all times we strive to provide the very best service and we apologise that this was not your experience on this occasion. Thank you once again for taking the time to leave a review.

In short, when a friend's health and mental outlook declined after the death of their husband - suggested the Grange (having visited and appraised it) as respite, two weeks holiday in a five-star hotel. She caved to it but said, not ready for a permanent move. After two weeks, she went home, but a couple
of days later suggested to move. She absolutely loved it and said it felt like home, made friends and loved the staff. Unfortunately she died, but in peace.

My good and close friend was living at home, but with deteriorating health involving increasing care over a period of three years, we managed to persuade her to take a period of respite and chose Signature and Reigate Grange. At the end of two weeks, she wanted to return home, but within three days
wanted to return to the Grange on a permanent basis. During the following weeks, the change in her everyday happiness and outlook was significant for the better She was a meticulous lady and told me many times about how her carers were kind, considerate and courteous, plus how happy and comfortable she was, plus always in praise of the good food. Whilst there, she also persuaded two others, despite residents to move in permanently - they did and reaming happy.
Unfortunately, my friend did not survive her deteriorating health condition, but we were so pleased that she was very comfortable and well looked after during her final months of life.
Well done to all.

A superb care facility. My father, who has Parkinson's and also suffered two strokes, has received first-rate, excellent care since he arrived in March 2022.
The staff are all very well trained and bring continued warmth and friendship. Dad's care has been tailored perfectly.

Disheartened by the lack of care given to my partners mother who was staying on the dementia unit. Totally disgusted with the level of food that was being served we decided to take food in ourselves. On occasions I saw carers being short and lacking encouragement. It would appear there is a lack of
dementia training amongst staff. Medication was not always distributed correctly, if at all. She had falls and injuries which were not logged correctly. Some of these falls would have been due to the loss of her glasses and the meds she was on. When management was informed of our concerns we did not always receive a reply or any reassurance that things were being dealt with. We had no choice but to take further measures in order to get answers and were horrified and heartbroken by what we saw. The disturbing video footage has been published by a national newspaper.

Under our comprehensive dementia strategy, all members of our care homes undergo compulsory dementia training that provides them the skills and knowledge they need to fully support our dementia residents. The training programme is specifically tailored to each colleagues’ individual roles within our home.
Before working in a Signature Senior Lifestyle home, care teams also undergo thorough pre-employment checks along with Signature’s mandatory training programme. This covers a broad range of modules, and includes:
-    Moving and handling residents (theory and practical)
-    Safeguarding
-    Privacy and dignity
-    Dementia awareness
-    Food safety
-    Health and safety awareness
-    Respect in the workplace

Poor management, poor care, and abuse. After spending time with the family friend involved, I can see how the abuse changed this 88-year old which was published in the newspaper. The management team and some of these staff members should not be allowed to work in care ever again.

My mum was in this care home and suffered abuse on the dementia floor. Extremely poor care. Poor food management doesn't care. A report was published in a national paper. October 2022.
Please avoid at all costs don't be fooled by first impressions here.
Reply from Reigate Grange, Management Team at Signature at Reigate GrangeThank you for taking the time to post your review. Throughout our extensive correspondence and attempts to provide you a resolution, we have made it very clear that the standard of care you set out falls far short of the empathetic, caring relationships we seek to build with each of our residents and their loved ones. We are deeply sorry that this was your experience.

I am also keen to emphasise that when the footage and allegations were shared with us, the management team acted swiftly and decisively. All rogue individuals identified as carrying out poor care in the footage were immediately referred to the Police and Safeguarding for investigation, and to reassure you, the individuals left the organisation as soon as the footage was shared with us.

In the week we were presented with the footage, we deployed an undercover Supervisor to assess the performance of the wider team. This ‘undercover’ team member worked in the home for several weeks and found no safeguarding concerns.

Furthermore, we immediately hired an external dementia care consultant to complete a full audit of Reigate Grange. They entered the service within the same week that the footage was shared with us, and their review found there were no systemic safeguarding issues.

We also have a comprehensive safeguarding policy which includes:
- CCTV being deployed in our homes’ communal areas, which is monitored and used as part of disciplinary procedures when poor practice is identified.
- Signature deploys its own covert cameras to secretly monitor staff behaviour when there are concerns about practice, or when residents have unexpected or unexplained injuries. This footage is then reviewed, and appropriate action is taken. Deployment of the covert camera is carried out once permission has been obtained by the family in question.

My 90-year-old father has been a resident of Hilltops, the dementia floor of Reigate Grange, for the last five months. He came from another care home where he had struggled to settle.
I was concerned that the move would unsettle him further, but the carers were brilliant and showed him kindness and
friendship such that he settled quickly. The carers are truly amazing. The residents are all treated with dignity and respect; they are loved and happy. The environment is clean and sophisticated and a pleasure to visit. We love the garden and terrace; it’s a wonderful place to sit out and enjoy the sunshine with a cup of tea. There are several activities on offer every day, from film screenings in the cinema to painting classes, concerts or minibus trips. My father and his friends also love Gordon - me to take my dog to visit, is a definite bonus.
Moving to Reigate Grange was, without a doubt, the best decision for our father.

My mum kept getting hurt in the home on the dementia floor at Reigate Grange and what my mum was coming out with was disturbing to hear. The home kept saying how she was getting hurt was unseen. I then walked into my mum's room and saw a male carer who was bent down by her bed & made a quick exit. I
noticed my mum was petrified & shaking, clinging to my girlfriend's arm. Don't leave me. I emailed the head of dementia requesting a meeting and never got a reply. Bought this up with the manager & deputy, took into 3rd month to get a reply back. I decided to install a hidden camera & was horrified what had been recorded. This has taken a toll on my mum. The manager & deputy manager always try to cover up what's going on & alter the truth. The management doesn't reply to or open their emails months from when you send them. Problems with Dehydration/Meds/Hospital visits not arranged correctly. Bad food, fish & meat on the same dish. My mum was going yellow in the face, found on social media.

Since Reigate Grange became my home 9-months ago, I have been treated with respect. Above all, I feel safe and secure. Staff at all levels clearly enjoy their jobs, and it shows in their positive attitude to both residents and visitors. Cleanliness of my room and throughout the home is exceptional.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother has been at the Reigate for 8-months. The care and facilities are excellent, and the apartments are very comfortable, spacious and well laid out. The family has noticed a beneficial change in my mother's well-being due to the activities offered and good food. Families are updated daily by
way of a secure website, which is very comforting. We would highly recommend Reigate Grange.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.832)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.832) out of 10 for Signature at Reigate Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.832 for Signature at Reigate Grange is calculated as follows: ( (390 Excellents x 5) + (54 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 453 Ratings = 4.832
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Signature at Reigate Grange is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 95 registered maximum number of service users is 19, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Dementia Care Manager Joined: 2020

I first joined Signature in October 2020 as a Care Supervisor in the dementia care community. I was then promoted to the role of Dementia Care Manager. If there is one thing that I've learned in my years of working with people living with dementia it is: the happiest and most fulfilled people are those who devote themselves to something bigger and more unique. There's nothing more rewarding than helping the most vulnerable people to continue to live their lives with dignity and respect.
