My sister is well cared for. The staff are friendly and easy to approach with suggestions for my sister's well being. Although the chef has many awards for food provided in this care home, I still believe that a week a month it would be nice to see plain and simple lunches provided as people in the over 60's bracket would love the menu to include simple, wholesome lunches like Lancashire hotpot, cottage pie, beef stew, shepherds pie and tomato or chicken soup, not all fancy stuff with courgettes, squash, celeriac, etc. Even the Sunday roast is jazzed up and the only time gravy is provided.

Mum is always very happy with the carer, as are we. Recently, when there was an outbreak of D and V, not only were we told about it quickly, her key worker took the trouble to call to let us know that Mum has made a full recovery from her symptoms.

As a care home it is very good. I was misled at my hospital who said it was for rehab, which was not the case but this was not the fault of Savernake. I was recovering from a hip replacement. I was not here long enough to comment on the activities.

Overall Experience

My mother was a visitor for respite care for two weeks. Overall, we were satisfied with the home which is relatively new and seemed to be in excellent condition. The rooms appeared to be good and the general facilities impressive although COVID measures had obviously limited what could be achieved. The home had a pleasant garden although it is adjacent to a very noisy road which was an unwelcome addition to outdoor visits. My mother was especially impressed with the catering. The individual staff was always helpful, although we found that internal communication between the administrative and care staff was less impressive. This led to uncertainty regarding both visiting arrangements and care. Requests made to staff, including the general manager, were not passed on or actioned efficiently. To our regret and, despite repeated requests from family members, my mother received no bathing support during her two-week stay. We are unlikely to use this facility again.

Reply from Anita Moore, Home Manager at Savernake View Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am somewhat surprised to read some of the comments given Mum expressed to us how much she enjoyed her stay. Whilst I cannot comment on personal circumstances, I should point out that when it comes to receiving a bath, or any personal care...

Although initially difficult to book I needed a two-week stay after having had an operation. Once we were all organised I found Savernake View and its staff terrific. Everybody was helpful. The food was delicious. the bed, however, was very narrow and hard, but I loved my time there and they set me up beautifully.

My mother is beautifully looked after and every consideration made for her wishes and well being. She has lie-ins when she wants, relishes the delicious three-course meals served so beautifully, enjoys films in the cinema, and simply sitting at the nurses' station chatting at any time of night or day. The team from carers and entertainment to reception are fully joined up and totally committed to the residents. It has been wonderful to visit and, over lockdown, zoom call my mother while knowing she is in the best possible care.

My mum entered Savernake View Care Home for 2 weeks respite care earlier this month. It was a very difficult decision to make but, as my father has been caring for my mum full time for 5 years, he was in desperate need of a well-earned break. My mum has very limited mobility, is in constant pain and, due to high doses of pain medication, has issues with short term memory. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, we were not able to visit my mum as much as we would have liked but it was very reassuring to hear from her that she was receiving excellent care, her room was very comfortable and the food was of an excellent standard. We were able to have a visit with my mum in the garden which is a really beautiful and calming place for the residents to walk or relax. In my mum's words, "I cannot fault the place".

My father has been in Savernake View since early July for end of life care with motor neurone disease. From the very first day, he has had excellent care. The staff are welcoming, friendly and approachable and have made a very distressing situation more bearable. My father always looks comfortable and clean and well looked after. The staff have also been super with my mother who has had to see her husband leave her side and be cared for by others. We are very happy and cannot fault Savernake View at all.

The level of care, compassion and empathy given and shown to my husband throughout his residency was outstanding, and especially so during the last months and days of his life. Nurses were always efficient, professional and pre-emptive.

Without exception, the home's support and management staff too treated my husband, his relatives and friends with kindness and concern.

My mother has been a resident here for 2 years. She is well looked after and her care there had given the family peace of mind. We no longer have to worry about her. She gets family visits at least 3 times a week and we are always made very welcome by the staff who respond quickly to any concerns which we might raise.

My Mother had deteriorated to the extent that she needed full tie care quite rapidly. We viewed Savernake view Care Home and were very impressed. The care she received was wonderful - everyone was kind, interested and caring, treating her with dignity and compassion. Sadly, she only lived for a further 8 days, but the staff ensured that her death was pain-free and extremely peaceful. Thank you.

Hello, my name is Rachael Khan-Lowe, and I am the Home Manager here at Savernake View.

I have worked in care since 2015 after qualifying as a general nurse from Sheffield Hallam University. Since qualifying as a nurse, I have worked in various settings, including nursing homes, acute settings, primary care and within charities. I have recently completed a master’s degree in integrated health and social care to develop my leadership and management skills, which are essential parts of running a successful care home.

When I am not spending time with our residents and team, you will find me with my husband travelling around in our campervan exploring the local area. I was brought up in Yorkshire but lived in Nottingham until recently, and we are enjoying living in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.

Hello, my name is Robyn, and I am the Client Services Manager here at Savernake View.

I have been working in the care sector since October 2021. I really enjoy working here in Marlborough, and our residents and team members here at Savernake View are all incredibly friendly, welcoming and ready for a good laugh! In addition to this, we are really lucky to be here in Marlborough surrounded by a lovely local community.

Finding the right environment for yourself or a loved one’s future care can be a difficult and daunting choice, so it is my role to provide guidance and support throughout the process to ensure that you are fully informed ahead of any decision you may make.

The best way to find out more about the care we provide is to come and visit our beautiful home and experience it for yourself, during which time I will be able to discuss your requirements with you in more detail and answer any questions you may have concerning your circumstances. I would be delighted to show you around our home, and I hope to meet you in the very near future.
