I stayed at Westgate as an NHS respite patient, following fractures to my lumbar spine. Overall, I would say that the staff at Westgate provide a comprehensive care service for their elderly, vulnerable residents. The staff were patient and friendly, the building was clean and regularly maintained,
and the facilities were excellent. My rehabilitation through physiotherapy was excellent, the team being patient, understanding, and they literally helped me back on my feet. The only downside was Westgate's claim to cater for special diets, when they obviously could not. I required a dairy free/low wheat diet, which was explained thoroughly to the team, but I was consistently presented with food which contained dairy, was low quality, inadequate portions, poorly presented, and sometimes cold. Consequently, I lost weight. The menu system required each resident to choose from a verbal list presented by a time-pressured staff member, where I would instantly forget what I ordered. To Westgate's management credit, they did change this system to a written menu, so a copy was left with the resident, but the food quality didn't really change during my stay. If the food situation was better, I would consider long-term care at Westgate.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at Westgate House Care CentreThank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your stay at Westgate, and we are very pleased to hear that you felt supported during your recovery following your spinal fractures.
We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the dining experience and special dietary requirements. We are sorry to hear that your dairy-free and low-wheat dietary needs were not consistently met during your stay, and that this affected both your enjoyment of meals and your weight. This is clearly not the standard we aim to provide.
Your comments regarding food quality, presentation, portion sizes, temperature, and the original menu ordering process have been noted carefully. We are pleased that the introduction of written menus improved part of the experience, but we recognise there is still more work to do to ensure residents with specialist dietary needs receive meals that are both suitable and enjoyable.

St Paul's cared for my mother in the latter stages of her Alzheimer's disease.
Having cared for her at home as a family for many years beforehand, it was a big decision to hand over this responsibility to the team.
We need not have worried: the level of care at St Paul's meant that in my mums final
years she was cared for with dignity, respect and compassion .
The team made a real effort not only to get to know Mum and who she was, but our family too , meaning whenever we visited this kindness and warmth was extended to us.
Their support and care of us all in Mum's
final days made her passing a much more bearable experience.
Thank you
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at St Pauls Care CentreWe understand how difficult the decision can be to entrust the care of a loved one to others, especially after supporting your Mum at home for so long. Your kind words about the dignity, respect and compassion shown to your Mum, and the effort our team made to truly get to know both her and your family, are deeply appreciated. Providing not only excellent care but also warmth and support to families during such emotional times is at the heart of what we do.
We are especially grateful that you felt supported during your Mum's final days. It is a privilege to be there for families at such important moments, and we are glad we could help make that time a little more bearable.
Thank you again for your trust and for sharing your experience.

My review relates to the Bluebell Rehabilitation unit at Westgate House where I was transferred by ambulance from hospital in Stevenage. I have had a positive outcome while staying at Westgate House and all my needs have been met whilst there. The carers were well trained and carried out all their duties
very professionally. Breakfast and lunch varied and with choice, were taken in the dining room by the more mobile residents. Exercises took place for an hour every weekday morning and practiced over the weekend. Two medical issues were treated successfully after being referred to the local doctors practice.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at Westgate House Care CentreThank you for taking the time to share your experience of the Bluebell Rehabilitation Unit at Westgate House.
We are delighted to hear that you had a positive outcome during your stay and that your needs were well met throughout. It is especially pleasing to know that you found our care team professional and well-trained, and that you felt supported in your recovery.
We're also glad you enjoyed the variety and choice offered at mealtimes, and that you were able to benefit from the daily exercise sessions as part of your rehabilitation. It is wonderful to hear that the coordination with the local GP practice helped ensure your medical needs were addressed effectively.
Your kind feedback will be shared with the team, who will be very encouraged by your comments. We wish you all the very best in your continued recovery and future health.

We would highly recommend Meadowhill. It's safe and welcoming and the staff are incredible. They always go above and beyond the call of duty. The home is purpose-built to accommodate all the residents needs and allows for large and small group gatherings. There's a wonderful garden area. Residents can
be involved in activities but also their rooms are sanctuaries if they need to get away from things. Mum sadly died at Meadowhill, but they were amazing with us when it happened. They knew exactly what to do. If you're a relative and you want peace-of-mind, Meadowhill is a great place for you loved one to be.

We're also pleased that you appreciated the home's facilities, activities, and peaceful spaces, all of which are designed to ensure residents feel both engaged and comfortable in their surroundings.
Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss. It means a great deal to us that you felt supported by the team during that difficult time, and we are honoured to have been able to care for your mum.

In August 2024 Dad had a fall at home and was admitted to hospital where he then developed sepsis however somehow he got through but it was decided due to other health issues that were incurable he was to receive palliative care.
After selecting St Paul's on recommendation he became a resident there,
and straight away within a day or so they had him looking clean and gave him a much wanted shave as Dad always shaved every day.
The excellent care and attention given to Dad bought him and us another 18 months after being told we had 3 months so thank you to the nurses, carers, chefs, cleaners, entertainers and the managers for giving us that.
My family have all said that we are putting down our names to go here if ever we require care.
They made us and Dad feel like a member of a big family.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at St Pauls Care Centrehank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. Your message truly means a great deal to everyone here at St Paul's.
We are deeply honoured that your father and your family chose St Paul's during such an important and sensitive time. It is wonderful to hear that the team were able to make him feel comfortable, cared for, and like part of our family from the very beginning. Something as simple as helping him feel clean and giving him his daily shave may seem small, but we know how important those personal routines are in maintaining dignity and a sense of self.
To know that the care, compassion, and dedication of our nurses, carers, chefs, cleaners, entertainers, and managers helped bring your father comfort - and gave your family precious additional time together - is incredibly meaningful to us. Your kind words will be shared with the whole team, who will be very touched to hear the difference their work made.
