Excellent care helping our Mum to recover from surgery after a fall. Staff took time to talk to Mum, have a chat and a laugh, and make her feel special. The team worked with Mum to encourage her to do the exercises' from the physio and to get her to be able to stand again. It was a long road to some
recovery but the staff continued to be encouraging and kind to Mum. Staff kept us well informed of progress and helped with the many hospital visits and transport that had to be arranged. Staff were responsive to any other medical needs for example arranging for antibiotics to be administered when there was an infection.
Mum is now confident to move onto the next place and continue to build on the good work started at Westgate. Thank you to all the staff including catering ( Mum likes her food), housekeeping, nursing, OT, admin and management.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at Westgate House Care CentreThank you for your wonderful review. We are delighted to hear that your Mum felt so well supported during her recovery. Our team takes great pride in providing compassionate, person-centred care, and it is lovely to know that the encouragement, kindness and support from all departments helped make a positive difference. We wish your Mum every success as she continues her recovery and thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

Mum transferred here for end of life care from hospital. She was only to live for 9 hours from arrival. Her caregiver and love shown was truly all I could have hoped for. I was so, so glad she was able to be here. All the staff looked after her, me and my family so kindly and compassionately.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at St Pauls Care CentreWe are deeply honoured that your mum was able to spend her final hours with us, and we are grateful for your kind words about the care and compassion shown by our team.

Mum has been here nearly a year now although it took her some time to settle, I think she is now doing well. The staff are informative and I don't have to worry about any of mums medical needs and the GP is very good and staff will contact if needed.

I stayed in St. Paul's after an accident and 3 weeks in hospital. When I arrived I had extremely limited, only walking a short distance using a walking frame. I had neither the confidence or the ability to do much at all.
After 8 weeks I was transformed. Care of the highest standard to cater for my
every need both physically and emotionally. My clothes were washed and returned in a few hours. My room was thoroughly cleaned every morning. There were multiple activities if you so wished,. The meals were excellent and brought to my room 3 times a day, the facilities were of the highest standard and I had physio 3 times a week with Jagdish who was caring talented and improved me physically and emotionally beyond recognition.
By far the most important aspect for me was the constant support of the carers. They treated me with dignity and and always had a listening ear. This was particularly important as I had lost my husband recently. They will remain in my heart forever, Thank you
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at St Pauls Care CentreThank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are truly honoured that you chose St. Paul's during such a difficult period in your life.
Your words about the care, support, and encouragement you received mean a great deal to our entire team. Recovering both physically and emotionally after your accident and the loss of your husband must have been incredibly challenging, and we are so pleased that our carers, housekeeping, catering, activities team, and physiotherapist Jagdish were able to support you throughout your journey.
It is wonderful to hear how much progress you made over the 8 weeks and that you felt treated with dignity, compassion, and kindness every day. Creating a warm, supportive environment where residents feel safe, valued, and cared for is at the heart of everything we do.
We will be sure to share your lovely feedback with the whole team. Thank you again for your heartfelt words - it was a privilege to be part of your recovery

I have nothing but praise for all of the staff at Westgate - everyone is so helpful and polite, and seems to enjoy their job, even the cleaner. All 3 of the Autopedic Therapy Team are outstanding in what they do, and got me back on my feet and walking after my hip operation. I can't thank them enough
for their encouragement and helpful advice to get me moving again!

My neighbour had a major incident and went to hospital. From here he went to Burford House for respite. At first he was uneasy but soon decided that he needed to stay. The care, friendly staff and food convinced him that this was the place for him.

I stayed at Westgate as an NHS respite patient, following fractures to my lumbar spine. Overall, I would say that the staff at Westgate provide a comprehensive care service for their elderly, vulnerable residents. The staff were patient and friendly, the building was clean and regularly maintained,
and the facilities were excellent. My rehabilitation through physiotherapy was excellent, the team being patient, understanding, and they literally helped me back on my feet. The only downside was Westgate's claim to cater for special diets, when they obviously could not. I required a dairy free/low wheat diet, which was explained thoroughly to the team, but I was consistently presented with food which contained dairy, was low quality, inadequate portions, poorly presented, and sometimes cold. Consequently, I lost weight. The menu system required each resident to choose from a verbal list presented by a time-pressured staff member, where I would instantly forget what I ordered. To Westgate's management credit, they did change this system to a written menu, so a copy was left with the resident, but the food quality didn't really change during my stay. If the food situation was better, I would consider long-term care at Westgate.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at Westgate House Care CentreThank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your stay at Westgate, and we are very pleased to hear that you felt supported during your recovery following your spinal fractures.
We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the dining experience and special dietary requirements. We are sorry to hear that your dairy-free and low-wheat dietary needs were not consistently met during your stay, and that this affected both your enjoyment of meals and your weight. This is clearly not the standard we aim to provide.
Your comments regarding food quality, presentation, portion sizes, temperature, and the original menu ordering process have been noted carefully. We are pleased that the introduction of written menus improved part of the experience, but we recognise there is still more work to do to ensure residents with specialist dietary needs receive meals that are both suitable and enjoyable.

St Paul's cared for my mother in the latter stages of her Alzheimer's disease.
Having cared for her at home as a family for many years beforehand, it was a big decision to hand over this responsibility to the team.
We need not have worried: the level of care at St Paul's meant that in my mums final
years she was cared for with dignity, respect and compassion .
The team made a real effort not only to get to know Mum and who she was, but our family too , meaning whenever we visited this kindness and warmth was extended to us.
Their support and care of us all in Mum's
final days made her passing a much more bearable experience.
Thank you

My review relates to the Bluebell Rehabilitation unit at Westgate House where I was transferred by ambulance from hospital in Stevenage. I have had a positive outcome while staying at Westgate House and all my needs have been met whilst there. The carers were well trained and carried out all their duties
very professionally. Breakfast and lunch varied and with choice, were taken in the dining room by the more mobile residents. Exercises took place for an hour every weekday morning and practiced over the weekend. Two medical issues were treated successfully after being referred to the local doctors practice.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at Westgate House Care CentreThank you for taking the time to share your experience of the Bluebell Rehabilitation Unit at Westgate House.
We are delighted to hear that you had a positive outcome during your stay and that your needs were well met throughout. It is especially pleasing to know that you found our care team professional and well-trained, and that you felt supported in your recovery.
We're also glad you enjoyed the variety and choice offered at mealtimes, and that you were able to benefit from the daily exercise sessions as part of your rehabilitation. It is wonderful to hear that the coordination with the local GP practice helped ensure your medical needs were addressed effectively.
Your kind feedback will be shared with the team, who will be very encouraged by your comments. We wish you all the very best in your continued recovery and future health.
