Review of Victoria Care Home from Julie J (Daughter of Resident) published on 26 February 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mum has been at victoria care home since July 2025 with rapid Alzheimers. The staff here have been excellent with my mum and with us when visiting, they have been very professional and friendly on every visit. My mum has always prided herself on her appearance prior to becoming ill , and the staff always try to encourage mum into the shower. Which isn't easy with my mum as at times her behaviour can be challenging. Whenever mum has needed medical attention all the staff have been very quick to organise a Doctor and appropriate medication if needed, and kept us up to date with any issues. To try and encourage mum to eat , the dementia manager has even suggested we visit at lunch time and have a meal with my mum. This is going above and beyond in our opinion, and have definitely given person centred care.
The food here always smells and looks delicious ,mum often has several helpings. Which makes us all laugh. We appreciate everything you do everyday for my mum.

Overall Experience
The staff at this nursing home are absolutely amazing the way they have looked after my aunt and us .well they hv gone above and beyond.
These staff in my opinion do not get enough recognition for the job they do.
The pay does not nearly cover for the job they have to do.
So from Theresa's family we sincerely thank you.

Love Tammy and family xx

Review of Victoria Care Home from S A (Friend of Resident) published on 30 June 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
The service received by dementia affected residents is indifferent at best neglectful at it's median . I wouldn't like to hazard a guess at the worst cases.
My friend has moderate dementia . They are routinely found to be covered in faecal matter & smelling strongly of urine & faeces. Every time I visit they need to be showered & changed. The staff always state ".. refused to shower ." Yet over weeks this is unacceptable. We would not be allowed to treat animals like this. The open areas themselves smell strongly of public toilets (faecal matter & stale urine not bleach or cleaning products). The staff seem to have little time to interact with residents. It's all too hard is often the most cited answer to questions regarding hygiene.

Resident property must be marked in indelible pen to attempt to help staff return it to the real owner. It goes missing routinely & no one seems to care or has responsibility to see it's found/returned . Constant excuses of I wasn't on duty when....

Review of The Ridings from Harry H (Brother of Resident) published on 22 March 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My brother has now concluded two years of excellent care at The Ridings.

He is exceptionally well cared for, and although often not fully alert, I know from him that he likes the home, and especially his carers, whom I too find friendly and helpful. The home was also undergoing a refurbishment on my penultimate visit.

All the staff are fantastic with me and my mum.
Willing to help with my mum and make me comfortable when I come to the home.
They always have my mum ready when I come to take her out for the day.
Staff are willing to answer your questions if any. Lovely atmosphere in the home on my mum's unit always chatting and having time for my mum and me.
Any issues are dealt with straight away by the staff.

All the staff make you welcome and feel at home when here with my mum.

Outstanding care for my father. The staff go above and beyond to ensure his needs are met. He is always neatly turned out and even though he is on a soft food diet due to his degenerative disease they talk him through his meals and encourage him to feed himself. I would recommend this home from home.

Review of Victoria Care Home from Tracey H (Daughter of Resident) published on 26 October 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

They are an amazing bunch of staff. Her companion staff member, in particular, keeps us really well informed with care plan information and anecdotal stories about what Mums been up to. I feel confident that they meet her needs and are quick to react when these change. Mum is really happy there and has made friends with other residents. Victoria has the atmosphere of a home, not a care home. Mum moved from another care home that were failing to meet her basic needs and that had left us very disillusioned with the care system, generally. Victoria Care Home really restored our faith in the system. They did a fantastic job settling her in and she loves it there. Her care is very person-centred with staff who work with enthusiasm. It's lovely to hear Mum giggling and laughing, chatting and dancing because if she's happy, then I am too.

My Mom has been at the Ridings since September 2021, initially for a 3 to 4 week rehab stay from Hospital. We asked the Social Worker involved if we could place my mom in a home North of Bham nearer to Staffs where family lived. We didn't have a choice of home, so this was a worry. She was placed at the Ridings and now 9 months later, she has had to stay due to her declining health. We feel lucky, to be honest, as she has settled in well after the initial few months and the Staff supporting her and us are out of this world. She is on the Ascot Ward and the Staff are kind Caring thoughtful and Compassionate. They do their job with humour and calmness to make sure the residents are calm and happy. One comment made was they are like Grandparents to her. My mom really likes them and I know they love her. I can't thank them enough for helping my mom come to terms with the fact it isn't safe for her to live alone at home, in fact she is so comfortable there she never asks to go home.

My aunty has been taken very good care of while she has been in there. She was only staying in for a short while and loved it so much. She made her own decision to stay in for good. She has made a lot of friends and she had none before, they went in there and all the staff are nice and caring, even to people who are visiting.

Review of Berwood Court Care Home from Margaret D (Daughter of Resident) published on 13 July 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother passed away in May this year. She was a resident of Berwood for about three years. Although the rooms are smaller than what would be ideal. My sister and I always felt welcome (obviously prior to Covid). The staff were very caring and patient with all the residents, and when mum was well, she felt quite settled there. When mum was very ill at the end of her life, she was treated with care and had far more attention than if she had died in hospital. Thank you.

Review of Kirkstall Court from Irene C (Independent Advocate/Deputyship) published on 4 November 2019 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
The home is bright and clean with lots of stimulation, sensory and pictorial. A resident was in the purpose-built kitchen attempting to cook for a family visitor prior to a trial visit to return home.

Many clients have difficult pasts but are treated with respect at all times. They are all known by name by the manager who is one of the biggest reasons for the success of this home.

Review of Kirkstall Court from Jean B (Sister of Resident) published on 9 October 2019 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My brother lived at the home from July 2010 to August 2019, when he passed away peacefully at the home. He passed away in his own bed, in his own room and with not only his birth family with him but also, the family he had been part of for the past 9 years.
In that time, he received excellent care and was always with treated respect and dignity. Lovely food at mealtimes, the home is warm clean and safe for all the residents, it does have a very homely feel. As the sister of a resident, I never had to worry if I could not get to see my brother each week, as I knew if anything was wrong I would be contacted by the staff. This gave me great peace of mind which is what you want when you place a loved one in a home. On visiting, you are always made welcome with tea and cake. I have been on many happy day trips out to the seaside, picnic's, theatre etc.

Thank you all for being there when I needed you.

The care provided excellent care for the residents in terms of personal care, rehabilitation of daily living skills. They motivate residents to be independent, set goals and aims for each resident depending on their capacity. All staff are polite and professional.

My very good friend is living at this home. His care from all the staff is second to none.
They carry out activities on a regular basis. My friend seems to be making so much positive progress, I am so proud of him.

I truly believe that this care home runs with so much love and attention to detail, it is actually making a difference in everybody's life that is involved, including the clients family. To put it bluntly, it's just a great place.

My brother has been a resident for two months, the care he has received has been exceptional. The staff are friendly, very supportive and so caring. I would recommend this care home to anyone, so much that we would like to get our other brother into there. Thank you to all at Berwood Court Care Home.

Review of Berwood Court Care Home from Jayne S (Daughter of Resident) published on 27 February 2017 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mother recently stayed here and although as with anything different there were teething issues, mom settled and seemed quite content there. The staff were friendly and supportive with her care, she had a room of her own, she was assisted to join in activities that were of an interest to her, and was not distressed at being in the situation she found herself.
The staff also did their best to support the family with this challenging time, therefore I suggest if you are looking for somewhere for a loved one at least go and look and see how it feels to you and yours, should it be offered to you.

One thing I'd like to improve is the dark wood as it makes it feel dingy (personal preference) care is excellent.
