We had to find respite care for my mum at very short notice. We viewed several homes in one day and the minute we stepped out of the car we knew Tithe Barn was the home for her. We met residents by the duck pond, enjoying the sunshine and could see an immediate warmth and rapport with the carers. The
atmosphere continued as we entered the building. There was a sense of fun and the sound of laughter. After a week it was obvious that mum needed permanent care and whilst she missed her home she often said she couldn't wish to be in a better place. Her room was bright and cheery and always clean and comfortable. Her appetite diminished so the carers brought her favourite treats to tempt her. All the staff, whatever their job, were the most warm, caring people you could hope to meet in any environment. Sadly mum deteriorated quickly and she spent the last 2 months of her life at Tithe Barn surrounded by her family and these wonderful people. Her family will be forever grateful to them all.

My mum has dementia, and has been looked after by all the staff very well, she enjoys all the meals they serve. She has been here 9 months now and she had a lovely big room, it is cleaner every day. If she has any ailments they call the doctor straight away. The home itself is generally clean and tidy
and smells lovely. Both Corinne the manager and Gulnaz the assistant manager run the home very well.

My wife has been a resident in Fieldhouse since October 2025; she suffers from dementia. On arrival, she was treated with utmost care and given a lovely room, then moved to the ground floor as it was more suitable. The care from the staff and the management has been exemplary. The staff go over and
above to ensure all the residents are treated and looked after to a high standard. They provide activities sometimes out of their own pockets, take residents out to the local supermarket and make life happier for all. Overall, I would describe Fieldhouse as a happy place for the residents, and my thanks to all the staff; nothing is too much trouble.

I had my right hip, replaced in hospital 18th May, I was discharged on 19th May to my home. Next day 20th May I was admitted to hospital with an infection, I was discharged on 14th July 2020 to another home, during my stay at the hospital I had made myself known to social services at Wigan council.
Eventually I was admitted by the council to The Acorns Care Centre immediately when I needed. Since my hip operation my health had declined very much, I have severe difficulty in walking. I have been cared for by all the staff, food has been good and my room has been daily.

My sister is in this residential home, has been since Sept 25. From living alone to this has been a transformation, it's great to see the change. Keep up the good work.

My sister Agnes is quite content here and well looked after by friendly happy staff. She has settled in well and over time is no longer agitated or worried she just lives each day as it is and is content. In fact she has lovely skin, lovely haircut and presents at her best.

My experience of the home is, its a well run home. Very clean, staff that go out of their way to help. I had a family member in there for a few many years (until sadly lost them). I wouldn't have had the relative anywhere else. A lot of home have a smell to them but The Acorns always smelt clean. Would

My father, Gordon, was looked after by Acorns carers and nurses during a short but dignified period of palliative end-of-life care. We, as a small family, have the most respect for how well he was treated until he passed away with dignity in their care. Yes, there were flaws. But these were addressed
immediately. That is surely normal when a patient needs intensive care. With regular visits and focus on his nursing needs, we were very happy with his care and ultimately, dignified death. Staff here are devoted and caring when families are committed to the proper care of their loved ones. We would like to pass on particular thanks to Theresa (manager), Sylvia, who is an absolutely amazing carer/nurse, Ceejay (for her emotional support) and Sue, a fantastic nurse whose knowledge was apparent at the end. I would also like to thank the nurse who called me in the hours before my dad passed. She was amazing. She was on the night shift, but knew the signs. Thank you everyone at Acorns.

Absolutely disgusting my dad has been on respite for one week, at first the manager was rude and stating they cannot care for his needs even though it is for advanced Alzheimer's, social worker got involved and highlighted the care plan that they accepted they then changed their attitude. Gone to pick
him up today as planned, staff on shift didn't know, he has been left in bed all day, one staff stated due to being short on staff. He has lost a lot of weight. Will be reporting to the CQC.

My Mum has been at The Dell for a few years now.
She enjoys a good relationship with the staff - they treat her like a person.
She especially enjoys all the banter and the arranged activities, there's always laughter and music and, given the opportunity, my mother is there, singing at the top of
her voice.
They even put up with her Barry Manilow fixation - well done that team!!
There have been a few tricky times with her health and, each time, the staff have acted promptly and appropriately, keeping myself and my brothers informed.
We know that she is safe and well cared for and that means everything.
They are very kind and supportive, both to us (the family) and to my mother, and we are very grateful

Our very first impression of the care home a few years back was not good. Mum's room smelled, looked dirty, carpet old and the toilets and bathroom were unusable (stairs and very old). The care home did respond to our request to remove carpet and the room looked a bit better.
Our concern was mum didn't
like to be moved up and down stair lift or even in the lift, so living upstairs was not meeting her needs. After a few requests mum was moved downstairs and seemed much happier. The care workers initially were ok, some excellent, some poor. Food is excellent. Communication between family and care home needs to be improved. Now that Karen has got things under control - good, caring staff and the home is not smelly and more homely, well done staff and Karen. Standard of care home still needs improving, e.g. rooms need upgrade and activities need to be improved.

My father has been a resident of the Dell since August 2025. Ever since he has been here he has been comfortable, happy and safe.
My family visits weekly and always find the staff amazing, able to laugh with the residents and have time for them no matter what. The residents are also really friendly
whenever visit and let on.
The residents in the Dell are always occupied during the day with activities and visits from schools and people providing entertainment.
If I ever needed to go into care I would love somewhere like the Dell

Lost for words really. Was told before admission there was regular entertainment. Also told she would get help to improve her mobility. Was not referred to correct services, she desperately needed referring to SALT and dietician. The manager has no empathy whatsoever.

Since my elderly aunt was placed in Ashbourne Nursing Home on 13th November 2025, she has settled in very well, likes being there and says all staff are friendly, polite and helpful.
My aunt has improved greatly since being there, and the staff are always busy, attending to the needs of residents.
Nothing is too much bother for them, and they are always on hand to answer questions relating to my aunt. Best move my aunt made.
