Review of Southlands Residential Care Home from L D (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 5 August 2026 Submitted via Website•
Overall Experience
Great care and lovely staff. Lots of activities to engage with, and I enjoy seeing updates and photos of my Grandad. Lovely outdoor area and spacious welcoming rooms too. Feels homely and not clinical at all.
My father has been a resident at Southlands for many years. He has recieved excellent care ,from the staff, they provide a safe environment, they maintain his dignity and allow him to be as independent as possible, but keeping him safe . The staff are friendly ,caring and their comunication skills are outstanding. As I live a long way from Southlands, the social media page is so good to see pictures and videos of my Dad ,during excellent entertainment and activities.
I have great reassurance, that my dad is well cared for at Southlands
Mum is coming up to her second anniversary at Southlands. We initially booked a two-week trial visit for her after a poor experience at her previous home, but by day 3 she had decided this was where she wanted to be. The facilities and catering are great and the staff are professional, really friendly and caring. The whole building is clean and well cared for and feels like a kind and nurturing place to live. Mum loves it. She is usually to be found holding court with her friends in the conservatory, usually with much laughter and banter, or quietly painting/drawing in her room. It's been great seeing her getting back into her art which she'd always loved but had lost the spark for before moving to Southlands. She's had a couple of medical issues but the staff are really on the ball and are all over such events. Calming and reassuring for the patient and providing regular updates to the family. Great care and support!

Review of Doneraile Residential Care Home from Julie B (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 August 2026 Submitted via Website•
Overall Experience
Mum spent 17 months at Doneraile, and sadly passed away in May.
I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone for the love and care you gave her. Knowing that Mum was happy, safe and surrounded by such amazing, kind and caring staff gave us much comfort. Every member of staff treated her with genuine warmth, dignity and compassion. You made her laugh, and comforted her on difficult days. In time you became like an extended family to Mum.
Jill the manager and Gemma the deputy manager are exceptional. They lead by example creating such a warm, supportive atmosphere. They were always approachable and supportive to me with my concerns for Mum, as were the absolutely amazing carers.
Mum loved taking part in the activities, especially the Music afternoons, which lifted her spirits and always brought a smile
to her face.
She really enjoyed the plentiful, delicious home cooked meals. Mum was a pescatarian but that was never a problem for the kitchen!
Thank you for everything you did for my beautiful Mum.

I have been coming to Donraile, Newton Abbot, Devon for six weeks now and loving it Everyone is very friendly and nothing is to much trouble. The home is very clean and the food at lunch time is delicious. I can sit outside in the garden with my wheelchair and any time I want a drink someone will bring me one. Overall Experience
My mum has been at The Homestead for nearly 3 years and we are very happy with her care. Clare and her team have made such a difference to her life. As I live far away it gives me enormous peace of mind. Any questions or issues are taken care of with minimum fuss. The staff are so good with my Mum and know how to get her involved with the activities and also respect her needs to sometimes be left to have time in her room. A wonderful home that Im so happy she is in.

Review of Alphington Lodge from Zetta K (Daughter of Resident) published on 10 July 2026 Submitted via Website•
Overall Experience
AL not only stands for AL=Alphington Lodge it also stands for AL = All Lovely. Whether it is the lovely building & grounds which are always kept immaculate, spotlessly clean & well maintained. The superb carers who truly put the care into caring. The delicious, varied & plentiful homemade food. It is lovely that AL still has a homely feel as it is a converted house not a purpose built home so has retained that feeling of being a home. The level of cleanliness is outstanding & good to see in this environment, I have been to other homes where a smell greets you before anything else, in the many many years mum has been at this home I have never smelt anything in any place on site which is so reassuring & testament to the high standards that operate at every level from the standard of cleaning to the really lovely food & treats that are on offer. There are so many lovely little touches like icecreams mid afternoon as it is hot. The staff team are what makes AL though they are amazing.

Overall Experience
My father had a fall and broke his femur. At his age (92) he had to stay in hospital for a month and then go to a local home for 2 weeks. We genuinely couldn't believe the difference in the quality of the home, it was so poor and basic compared to The Homestead. We were pleased beyond words when dad could return to his lovely room at The Homestead and finally begin his recovery.

Review of Doneraile Residential Care Home from Tina M (Daughter of Resident) published on 22 June 2026 Submitted via Website•
Overall Experience
My mum went to Doneraile for emergancy restbite and has now become a permanent resident. As it was an emergancy we hadn't viewed before hand but it was meant to be. There is a VERY welcoming, happy, lively and inclusive atmosphere, and it's like a little community. The staff are so caring, friendly, tactile when needed, full of fun and life and they all have a fantastic sense of humor, which the residents respond to. Doneraile is not a 'god's waiting room' type of care home, everyone is loved, cared for and treated with respect and there is so much fun and laughter.
My mum has dementia and at first she was really quiet, wanting to be on her own but now she has lots of friends that she chats and laughs with and joins in with the activities, l would say that she is starting to thrive and l don't think that she would be if she wasn't in THIS care home.
