Rowans Care Centre

We feel extremely lucky to have found 'The Rowans' and couldn't have wished for a more caring nursing home for Mum. Immediately welcomed into 'the family', staff popped into Mum's room to introduce themselves: such a kind and personal touch.
Throughout Mum's stay, the nursing team communicated
her changing medical condition in a clear and sensitive way, the kitchen team were great at adapting menus to suit her needs, and the care team offered her dignity in her personal care. Clean laundry arrived with a smile (and sometimes a song!) and the housekeeping team kept the whole home spotless and smelling fresh. If Mum hadn't been so ill, she would've enjoyed the activities on offer too.
Nursing care homes are challenging places of work: we saw nothing but respect for residents, good humour and professional care and kindness from all the staff. They also showed compassion towards us as we said our goodbyes to Mum. This is a special place and one we would whole-heartedly recommend.
Reply from Rowans Home Manager, Home Manager at Rowans Care CentreThank you so much for your kind review it makes it all worth while when you get that one review that really lifts your spirits I will share this with joy with the staffing team. It was a privilidge and a pleasure to care for your mum and you as her family.

From the first visit to view Rowans throughout the time mum spent there until her death, the staff displayed professionalism, care and kindness to all our family.
I was told bringing mum to Rowans would be like her and us joining one big family and it was in spades!

My mother was admitted to The Rowans in early January after we looked at other homes in the area. We felt the staff were absolutely 'on their game' with a wealth of knowledge about the condition my mother had.
During her time at the Rowans the staff looked after her with kindness and thought. Any
questions we had were answered straight away and clearly. We could not fault her care whatsoever.

Mum has been a resident at aspen Grange for over two years. The staff have been supportive and understanding of her needs throughout this time. The level of care, both professional and friendly, has been outstanding. It feels as if the size of the home (number of residents and staffing ratio) is ideal
with Mum not being lost as just another resident.

My stepmum has been at Aspen Grange for some time now, and the standard of care that she receives is more than we could have asked for. The staff are attentive and friendly, and given the circumstances, my stepmum is happy and well cared for. There is plenty to keep her stimulated, and if there are
any issues we are informed immediately. As a family we are grateful for everything they do.

My brother and I were greeted on arrival by cheerful and courteous staff. We were pleased to find our relative (resident) in the home looking comfortable and relaxed. She was also looking well cared for. The staff were admirably patient and kind in manner. The decor & atmosphere was clean, bright and
welcoming. We greatly admired the professionalism of all the staff we encountered.

Mum moved in approx 2 months ago. She has been kept comfortable and clean at all times, despite us visiting at different times of the day. She has commented to us that she is well looked after and they make sure she is comfortable. She needs 24 hr palliative care is 96 years old and is a little difficult.
But despite this they are kind, and look after her very well indeed.

First impressions warm and inviting. Lovely atmosphere. Lots of eye contact with all the staff and nice smiles. Residents and respite short stay seem very happy. A lovely smell from the kitchen and cleanliness. Second to none I have no hesitation in recommending Rowans to anyone seeking 24 hrs care.

My mum has been at Aspen Grange for just over a year. My sister, husband and I are very pleased with her care. She has a nice ensuite room, the carers are amazing, so helpful, and friendly. They look after her hygiene needs and make her laugh, and encourage her to sit in the lounge. Nearly all the carers
we see have been there since mum moved in. The nurses are great at keeping on top of her medical needs, even when she spits her pills out.

After spending 2 or 3 weeks in hospital, they decided that my wife needed some palliative care and immediately recommended Rowans. Even from the first minute I could tell that the Rowans was a place that could offer kindness and care to my most wonderful wife. To be experiencing the few remaining days
of Alzheimer's is really terrible time for all concerned, for both patients and love ones. It is hard not to mention individual names but the attendant nurses and other staff showed incredible care whatever their role. All of my wife's family were so happy to notice the involvement of each member of staff, no matter what their duty was. A cup of tea was always presented to visiting friends and each person we met showed great kindness and concern not only for my wife, but for all her visitors. During one evening I happened to be waiting (unknown) whilst the nurse was attending to my wife's comfort. I was so grateful to experience such personal and loving care. Although albeit for a relatively short period of time. Thank you to all the staff from Rowans. We all could see the wonderful kindness by all members of staff.
Reply from Rowans Home Manager, Home Manager at Rowans Care CentreWe are so glad we were able to care for your wife during the end of her life and are pleased we helped to ease not only her discomfort but yours and your family's. My wife has now spent the first month in Aspen Grange. To date, I cannot fault facilities, management, carers, cleaners, cleanliness and comfort for the residents. Their food is adequate, with menus changing daily. There is a lovely garden with tables, chairs and gazebos for residents and families to
enjoy. Entertainment is provided most days. Dogs are allowed to visit also. My family and me are all in agreement, my wife is definitely in the right place to be cared for.

Husband enjoyed the food. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Everywhere (rooms and public places) was clean and pleasant and well maintained. Would have liked husband to have had more walking about to keep his mobility levels okay but realise staffing levels may not have been able to provide
this.

Clean, warm and welcoming. Usually offered a drink and cake on arrival. Food looks and smells delicious. Sadly a lot of the residents seem to always be sat in wheelchairs, in the dinning room with nothing to stimulate them. There seems to be no activities on a regular basis. Christmas seems to be the
last time the residents had any kind of entertainment. The games cupboard has very little equipment to encourage table games being played with the residents. Not enough physio for for residents that could do with more. Eating plans need reviewing as some residents may not need their food purified.
Reply from Rowans Home Manager, Home Manager at Rowans Care CentreResidents have a perscribed diet from SALT and are refereed as required. It is a legal requirement to follow the persribed diet. We have to wait for a resident to be reviewed before we can alter a diet this is an NHS service and unfortunately we have to wait until they visit. The games cupboard has many board games available and the activities team are available to chat.We have regular visitors to the home for "entertainment" purposes this week we had armchair exercises, today we have a church visit. This weekend we are celebrating a special birthday. As with any product entertainers come at a high cost and we have to ensure we offer something for everyone. We do not have physiotherapy input unless perscribed again this is an NHS service and not something we would provide as a nursing home however, if required this can be purchased from a private source. If you have any further concerns please do not hesitate to speak to member of staff who can help with this.

We moved my mother to Aspen Grange Dec 24. Since that move i have found the staff happily engage with my mother at various times of the day. they are very polite, helpful and caring towards my mother with seemingly no request to much to ask. They manage her diabetes well providing her with a well balanced
diet including fresh fruit each day. Although my mother is generally bed-bound, the staff make great efforts so she can now frequently have a proper bath.
Maintence is well attended to and the Home are quite amenable to hanging pictures etc on the walls for you.
The Home provide a variety of stimulating activities and events, even feeding the birds in the garden which she enjoys watching from her room window. The home is always clean and secure.
All in all, a much much better care home than the previous home in Chelmsford that Mother was in that was also more expensive.

My mother-in-law has been cared for with dignity for about 20 months, since June 2023, in the Rowans. The staff look after her very well and the food is always nice.
