The main thing for me are the staff.

They are always welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. I would highly recommend this care home. My mum has been in others for respite but this one is the best

Reply from Maxwell Andrews, Marketing Lead at Swallownest Care Home

Thank you for your lovely recommendation. We are delighted to hear that our team has made such a positive impression. It is especially rewarding to know that, from your experience, our home has stood out as the best place for your mum's respite care.

Moving your loved one into residential care is one of the hardest decisions a family has to make, but when the time comes that there is no other option you look for what you feel will be the best place for
them to settle in and feel comfortable in their surroundings.
We feel very lucky to have found Swallownest,, on day one the staff were friendly and welcoming, that hasn't changed at all in the three months mum has lived there, you can feel the happy atmosphere just as soon as you walk through the door.

We as a family now can visit our mother, enjoy our stay with her and leave her with the knowledge that she is in safe hands. If she is happy then so are we.

I've visited Elsie for a few months now and she seems to have fitted in very well. While I have been there the things she has requested such as fresh fruits and ice lollies in hot weather etc have always been provided. Staff are very caring and even I am asked if I need drinks in hot weather too. It is very clean and well kept.

Reply from Maxwell Andrews, Marketing Lead at Swallownest Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to share this. We're glad Elsie has settled in so well and that little touches like fresh fruit and ice lollies in the warm weather help her feel at home. It's good to hear you feel looked after on your visits too. We'll pass your thanks on to the team.

Review of Ascot Lodge Care Home from Martin O (Son of Resident) published on 8 July 2026 Submitted via Website

My mother Catherine is an unwilling resident of Ascot Lodge. She has late stage dementia. Catherine was committed there in November 2024, following a vile and untruthful allegation made against myself, her son.
The recently appointed manager of Ascot Lodge, I find personally odious.
Catherine is now on a path towards death. I want to visit her on weekends, as well as weekdays. The sparkling new manageress stated to me: "I won't change the visiting agreement you signed last summer."

That agreement was signed under conditions I consider blackmail.

Reply from Amy Batchelor, Customer Service Manager at Ascot Lodge Care Home

I'm sorry to hear you have cause to raise concerns regarding Ascot Lodge, it is never our intention as a home to cause distress. As this is a personal and sensitive matter and has relevant professional input, I would like to arrange a meeting in person to discuss the concerns and ensure we work...

Review of Swallownest Care Home from Callum T (Grandson of Resident) published on 24 June 2026 Submitted via Website

Came to see my grandma for the first time since she's been at the home, a musical show had just finished and the service users were all given a cup of tea and a bun. The atmosphere of the place was lovely and the staff were all very caring. The maintenance man was making sure with all the residents that it was ok for him to go in their room and to check what issues they might have had. Everyone knew everyone by name and everyone treated my grandma with kindness and respect. We were shown photos and videos of another recent performance and even found my grandma on the photo wall in one of the boards, she looks like she's having a great time and much happier to see her with people than at home by herself. We were also invited back for the summer fayre a week on Saturday. Thankyou for all you do

Reply from Maxwell Andrews, Marketing Lead at Swallownest Care Home

Thank you for such a lovely account of your first visit. Little things like the maintenance man checking in with residents say a lot about the culture of a home. We're so pleased to hear your grandma looks happier and more sociable, and we hope to see you at the summer fayre. We'll pass your thanks on to the team.

Came to see my Mama this afternoon. She was watching a show but two ladies (manager I think) brought her to us and got us all settled in a little corner so we could spend time with her. She looked immaculate and cared for and appeared very happy. Everything about our visit was lovely and everybody couldn't do enough for Mama and for us whilst we were there. A beautiful place for Mama to now be living and I'm certain the care she will continue to receive will be to an outstanding standard. Thank you for making a hard thing much easier.

First time visitor. Amazing staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and identified a space in the lounge for us to have time with our relative.
All the staff we saw seemed to go out of their way with every resident giving a personalised approach to care.

Thank you

We were very happy with the staff, who were very caring. I felt that he was safe and being cared for properly. I think he would have liked a few more activities, as he felt that he was sitting in a chair for a long time. On the whole, we were very pleased with the experience.

We initially contacted Swallownest care home in May 2025 regarding respite care with a view to hopefully encouraging mum to move in on a permanent basis.. The staff were all friendly and welcoming and despite her initial reservations mum soon acknowledged that it would be a good idea to stay. The care that mum received was excellent, we were welcomed to visit whenever we wanted. The team all work really hard to provide a great service and quickly became an extended family to mum . She enjoyed taking part in some of the activities organised by Dawn and Tracey from the wellbeing team but even when she chose to remain in her room staff constantly checked in to say hello. The catering staff worked really hard to accommodate mums changing dietary needs.Sadly mums health deteriorated and she required end of life care . It was so comforting that she was surrounded by people that she knew . Our only regret is that she didn't have more time there as her quality of life was improved so much

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt account of your mum's time at Swallownest. We are deeply touched to hear that our team helped her feel welcomed, comfortable and part of the home, especially during such an important stage of her life. The care and support that Silverwood have given to my mother has been of the highest quality. From the first time we made contact with the home they have listened to her requirements and delivered a first class service. On the top of this they have also ensured that we were listened to and made us very welcome. All the staff are very approachable and display a remarkable propensity to treat everyone as an individual. The attitude and humour of the staff has made visits enjoyable.

I have no hesitation in recommending Silverwood to anyone considering using their services.

Review of Swallownest Care Home from Barbara S (Daughter of Resident) published on 2 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My 101 year old mother has been in several care homes over the last couple of years and Swallownest is the best by far. The atmosphere there is warm and friendly and this is obvious as soon as you walk through the door. The staff interact with the residents and their families and treat them with warmth and respect. It is obvious that they enjoy their caring roles. There are frequent activities held in the large, sunny lounge and the residents are encouraged to join in. The home and grounds are clean and well maintained. I would have no hesitation in recommending Swallownest Care Home to anyone looking for a well run, caring 'home from home' for their loved ones.

Review of Ascot Lodge Care Home from Mark G (Son of Resident) published on 17 February 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My Sister and I choose Ascot Lodge to provide care for my mother in September 2025. She was suffering with the final stages of Dementia / Alzheimer's and we knew that Ascot Lodge specialised in this type of care. All the dealings we had with HC-One (parent company) and the home itself were excellent and very professional.

Although my mothers time at the home was short (Sept 25 - end Jan 26) we never had any problems and all the staff were professional and, most importantly, caring and considerate to my mother at all times. We visited my mother regularly and also found that the staff were welcoming to us and nothing was too much trouble for them.

I would certainly recommend this home to others thinking of putting their love ones into care. You can be certain that the staff at Ascot Lodge will always do everything they can for their residents.

The staff attempt to do their upmost to help in every area. The choice of food is good and variable. Activities great and everyone is welcome to attend. Facilities are constantly looked at and upgraded, this includes a new bathroom with bath and chair lift which will make a massive improvement to new residents, some who have not been able to have a bath for years. Management are excellent in all aspects. Great [lace to be a resident.

As a family we are so glad we chose Silverwood Care Home for our mums care. Suffering from dementia she required expert care and understanding. While she was there, she formed bonds with staff and residents and enjoyed days out and activities. The food was excellent and she put on quite a bit of weight while she was there. The care was exemplary and the staff understanding and empathetic. They cared for mum with such dignity towards the end of her life and we are so grateful to them.
