Felt very comfortable and welcoming, I couldn't have asked for more caring and attentive staff. They really helped comfort me and answered as many questions as I had for them. Super accommodating.

My mum settled in quickly and was made at ease. Our favorite spot was spending time in the room with a view on the 2nd floor. Thank you to all!!

I am very satisifed with my Dad's care at the Laleham. He has settled in so quickly, better than we could have hoped for and I think this is because it is has great atmosphere and is well run. The staff clearly care and love their jobs. They are always communicative and we feel that they work in partnership with us. My Dad only has good things to say and so far, he has not complained once! We also appreciate the social media posts as a way of keeping us updated. The activities are mixed and my Dad has actually been participating, he is quite deaf and not very sociable but now he is joining in with lots! Thanks to the staff for doing an amazing job.

My mother has been a resident at the Laleham since August. Initially for respite, but she is now a full time resident. I have read the negative reviews and won't lie I was concerned. I have no knowledge of the care home before the referbishment, but it is clean, fresh and the rooms are bright and comfortable. the communial areas are also welcoming. The staff I have met so far from the manager to the carers, cook and cleaners are friendly, smiley and always happy to listen, to be offered a coffee adds to the feeling of being welcome. They also keep me fully informed of any issues with my mothers health. Any teething problems have been dealt with immediatly. I truly feel I am still involved with mum mothers care. Mum also gets involved in the some of the activities, which we can see on social media. Everyone who visits mum say she is happy, it is so good to see her content and smiling.

When Mum came here, they knew exactly how to meet her needs from day 1. The staff are professional but have a down to earth approach. I never have to worry about Mum, she's always happy when I see her, and she loves the staff. They take her out and always listen to her and offer a sympathetic approach of she becomes upset due to her condition. I wouldn't want Mum anywhere else = FANTASTIC HOME.

My husband settled in very well. The staff were great with him and he was treated with dignity right to the end of his life.
To keep the residents entertained daily was always a challenge but Laleham completed perfectly

. I love the way at Christmas, Valentines Day and Halloween there were always appropriate decorations in the home.

Reply from Beverley Keith, Registered Manager at The Laleham

Thank you for your review. We have an activities Co- Ordinator in the home 6 hours a day 5 days a week she does a brilliant job as you have said entertaining the residents is very challenging but she always seems to be able to do this daily.

All the staff at The Laleham were always happy interacting with all the residents. The senior staff were always available to answer any questions and had time available. The only negative was the manager who let the home down. The Laleham had a full of life atmosphere.

Staff make every effort to provide person-centred support and care. The manager and deputy are always approachable and listen to any concerns whilst making every effort to address any concerns effectively. At times my relative can be very difficult and the staff and manager manage his behaviour with humour, understanding and kindness. Nothing is too much trouble and staff are always welcoming.

My dad was in hospital. They decided that he needed to go into a home for assessment and Laleham, Herne Bay was the only place with a room available. No no noooo, don't put your loved ones here. The staff were friendly enough but not enough of them. Some we're foreign and couldn't understand what you were saying, the whole place stunk of urine and felt grubby. It's so dated and the lift was awful. You could only get 2 people in there at a time and was about 100 years old. My poor dad ended staying in his room all day and night. They would bring up his breakfast and that would still be there lunch time no one came into take plates away. Me and other family members would have to ask someone to take them. He had a sink in his room but no hot water. My dad went downhill in there. We couldn't wait to get him out of the place. He eventually got home but sadly died 9 days later.

My family and I have had to put our beloved husband and father into the care of others, so finding this home has put us all at ease. The management and staff are professional, hard working and caring people who create a family atmosphere that is welcoming and friendly to all with every possible attempt at empathy. This is a very conviviate place for him to live, so spirits are always lifted when we come to visit. Thank you

I find the carers, nurses and management very friendly and attend to my husbands needs e.g when he needs to go to the toilet very promptly, they are happy, smiling and helpful to take him off when this is needed. They also help him at meal times to eat, as due to his dementia he has forgotten how to manage to eat and drink, how to hold things with food and using cutlery.

The manager and her lovely team have looked after and cared for my partner for 18 months. Their patience, empathy and understanding have been extraordinary and provided him with a secure and homely environment. This is especially appreciated as he can be difficult and unpredictable at times. With their positive attitude and approach, nothing seems to be a problem. It's a wonderful place.

I've visited my friend several times during his stay. We've sat in the dining room or lounge or I have taken my friend out (walking distance). We've been offered a cup of tea every time. The staff were always pleasant when I saw them. They are happy for me to take my friend out too.

My aunty was at The Laleham for three years. Sadly she has not long passed away. The care she received was outstanding, the staff could not do enough for her or my family. I would just like to say a massive thank you to the team at The Laleham. Carry on the good work.

Unfortunately, I was unable to visit my husband on many occasions. However, when I did I found the staff to be very courteous and polite. His room was extremely small and not very clean looking and in need of decoration, as was the rest of the home which I saw. There seemed to be no facilities for the residents and considering the home is situated across from the pier, at no time was my husband taken out for some fresh air. The care home is looking very grey!

Overall Experience

All staff are fantastic and even though care staff usually have to work 12 hour shifts and are often short staffed, the standard of care is high. They are really helpful, friendly and person centred. Housekeeping staff are also very good and my room is thoroughly cleaned daily. The food is excellent. Kitchen staff are very good if you are on a diet and made me beautiful and imaginative salads. Management also very nice and approachable. The few criticisms I have are the responsibility of the owner. In the dining room and lounge there is no way of attracting a carer's attention if there is an emergency. There's a call bell on the wall but residents either can't access it or the ones who can wouldn't understand how to. The access to the garden is a health and safety hazard for both residents and staff.

Even though my dad has passed 8 months now, I still have this unsettled feeling a lack of care contributed to him passing. I was told he was liked by many, which I'm sure he was. He was chatty, liked sharing his jokes, and being around company. Unfortunately, he was there 2 months and contracted a chest infection, deteriorated within days gone, left us. The lack of care I discovered the night before he died was heartbreaking.
