Overview

The Review Score of 9.3 (maximum of 10) for Tynwald Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Tynwald Residential Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.795 for Tynwald Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (125 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 156 Ratings = 4.795

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.519 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tynwald Residential Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 5.2 positive Reviews (26 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 5.2 Target = 0.769

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother has been a resident at Tynwald since March 2016. Mum struggles to walk but is perfectly alert, so finding a care home with the right atmosphere was crucial to her daily wellbeing. Tynwald is a friendly, warm caring place staffed and run by people with the same qualities. They have gone out of their way to make mum happy, altering her bed and room layout to suit her. Her room is filled with her craftwork, books and all the things she enjoys. Her main carer is an empathic, generous, kind and funny person who has become a good friend. If you could clone her the staffing problem in care work would be solved!

Tynwald management and staff really know their residents. The CQC checks and measures cannot measure an atmosphere, or a warm feeling, or a kind word in the night. They don’t give points for empathy. I am a former Ambulancewoman who has seen bad homes. Tynwald is at the opposite end of the spectrum. It is mum’s home and she (and we) are so happy we found it.

My aunt resides in Tynwald and is the 2nd relative to do so, my father being the other. I have found the care to be of the highest quality, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, from the cleaners through the kitchen staff to the carers right through to the manager. They are friendly but very efficient and the residents are extremely well looked after. If there is a problem with my aunt, maybe with her being unwell, we are notified by phone straight away.

The care home itself is what I would consider as homely, which is exactly what we were looking for. If the time should come, I wouldn't mind residing there myself. The residents have some form of entertainment nearly every afternoon and are encouraged to join in. All in all, I don't think we could have found a better care home for my aunt to reside in. We have peace of mind and can rest assured that she is well looked after in her 99th year.

It is Friday 10th February 2017 and my third visit to my Auntie this week.
On entering the spacious reception area, the door is opened by staff. Roomy and bright with easy chairs. I am signed in and in the TV lounge give a greeting to residents who I have got to know.
Onto the conservatory which is spacious and also roomy and bright.
My Auntie is knitting - a new venture - which is excellent to my mind.
10.30 am is a tea or coffee break with biscuits which are taken around.
The staff take orders for tea, breakfast and lunch the following day.
It is then the crossword before lunch.
Everyone is encouraged to participate but no pressure. There's much more.

My old next door neighbour came into the home for 3 years and loved it, so I put my mother and step-father in here. Very pleased with everything. It is a lovely home, nice atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Very caring staff. Cannot do enough for the people in 'Tynwald Residential Home'. The carer who looks after my mum is fantastic, young and always has a smile. The home is always clean and the garden is lovely to sit in. My mum has been taken out on three trips this month. The food is very good and is cut up if required.

Staff are very patient and caring towards residents. Happy, homely environment. Each resident is treated as an individual and they are encouraged to join in with the various activities on offer. All areas are clean and there is a lovely outside area where residents can sit if they wish. I would be very happy to recommend this care home to others.

My mother came to live in Tynwald two years ago at the age of 97. She had always been a fairly shy person so was very wary about leaving her own home and loosing her independence but was having falls etc However the warm welcome she received at Tynwald made her settle in quickly and she has been very happy, making friends and enjoying their home made meals, delicious cooking. She has failed a lot in health recently and the care and attention she is receiving is second to none. They are the most caring and kind people working there under a wonderful fairly new manager. I cannot praise Tynwald enough!
