Review from Robin J (Brother of Resident) published on 10 September 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My brother has been cared for extremely well by the people at Hulcott Nursing Home. I cannot thank them enough or indeed praise them highly enough for the care they have provided to him. I am aware that care homes are regularly checked by a government agency for their performance but that measure would most probably not include a feeling of "family atmosphere". If Hulcott were to be assessed against a measure like this then it would be a ten out of ten! My brother has a terminal illness and when he first arrived at Hulcott he did not feel settled or in fact, want to be there at all. Over the course of the succeeding days, I saw all of that melt away and he settled in very well. He is being treated with dignity, respect and very good humour

Additionally, from my own point of view, I have been very satisfied with the communication I have received about various issues involving my brother. Very professional indeed.

My father was sadly moved to Hulcott for his end of life care and we couldn’t have asked for anything better. The team were absolutely amazing in everything they did to make the whole experience as trouble-free as possible. The staff were so kind to my father, caring for him as if he was part of their family and we felt confident that he would be looked after when we had to leave him each day. The nurses were so lovely and attentive and kept us informed about his condition. Everyone played their part and the reception team were also so kind and accommodating. Everybody there contributed to helping make a very sad situation more bearable. Thank you all so much.

Although my husband was in Hulcott for a respite of only two weeks, and while the restrictions due to the Covid-19 were still present I can recommend Hulcott Nursing Home. Everybody was welcoming to him and friendly. The rules for the protection of other residents and members of the staff were in place all the time. The attention and care for his well being was permanent from all the staff. I was confident and very happy with the attention he received. He will agree to go there again.

Dad is very happy at Hulcott and is well looked after by the nursing team here. I have not been able to see Dad much since he moved into the home, but he always seems happy when we speak on the phone, most days.

Thank you so much to all the staff at Hulcott Nursing Home for your great care and kindness to my mother. I am so pleased that my mother spent the final 8-months of her life at Hulcott. The management is very understanding, approachable and supportive. My mum enjoyed the peaceful location of Hulcott, also the range of stimulating activities and delicious meals. The staff were extremely caring and supportive to my mum and me, particularly during Mum's end of life care. I would highly recommend Hulcott Nursing Home.

My husband has been a resident at Hulcott for the last three years and has been very happy and settled there receiving excellent nursing care from staff who really do 'care'. The past few months have been particularly hard for everyone - residents, staff and relatives - but from the manager down they have been totally supportive and always available to chat/help. It has been very difficult not to be able to sit with him and hold his hand but at least I have been able to see him if only through a window! His routine has not changed, nor have most of the faces he knows, and his care has been unaltered. That together with the fact that they have been able to keep him safe by keeping COVID-19 out has enabled me to accept that although I cannot be with him, he is in the best place for him at this time.

My mother has been in this home for just over 3 years, they were quick to react to the pandemic, they have kept us informed of things happening at the home throughout this difficult time, the new visiting arrangements are in place and my mother seems to be very settled with everything.

Overall Experience
Friendly, attentive staff who take good care of my mother and she has been very happy at this clean, bright home.
Unfortunately, the lockdown has increased her isolation and thus caused a drop in mood and cognition - but this applies to residents in homes everywhere.
Connectivity is still not good and technology needs addressing - despite recent effort to boost internal WiFi, the signal is not stable enough for a smooth video call to the home's tablet and thus the experience is quite frustrating despite helpful staff on hand to hold the device for my mother.

I did some homework on broadband speeds, availability and pricing and passed this on - it is critical head office prioritizes connectivity urgently and arranges a more robust connection to the premises. Unable to see us, decent video calling is the only means for families to visually connect with isolated loved ones. With strong stable WiFi, we can purchase accessible equipment that doesn't need staff assistance.

Overall Experience

The room is rather shabby. Needs decorating and lighting needs improvement. Furniture old and tired. Food (I have not eaten) but is the only complaint from my Mother in Law. For example:- cheese salad, just different lettuce leaves and a chunk of cheese. No tomatoes/cucumber etc. The staff are great!

Since my mother-in-law has been in residence she has been cared for at an exceptional level. She has settled in well and has improved significantly over the past few months - health-wise. She enjoys and looks forward to meals, which she did not do prior to coming to Hulcott.

This home was a lifesaver. My mum had been in Hospital for 4 weeks and we needed interim care until care could be put in place. The staff couldn’t do enough. Caring, considerate, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They made transfer home easy too. Would highly recommend respite care here.

My father has been at Hulcott for almost 2 years. During his time there he has been very happy and the staff are amazing. If we have any concerns they have/are dealt with straight away. As a family, we are always made welcome and looked after, fed and water if we have needed it. My father is at palliative care stage. All the staff, from cleaners to management have supported us and taken great care of my father and treated him with total respect. We could not have asked for more.

I am my cousins next of Kin. She has been in Hulcott Care Home for two months following a long stay in hospital. She is very happy here despite the fact that initially, she did not want to go into a care home. She now appreciates the standard of care she receives. I also know that she is safe and well cared for.

Home is a super looking building with superb gardens. Staff all welcoming us with a smile. Rooms are bright and very clean, the dining room looks like a good restaurant. My partner has improved since coming to Hulcott. She likes us bringing her cats and dog. TV reception is poor but I believe is being improved. Overall we are very happy.

This is a follow-up review now my mother has been in the care home for a few months.

My mother is being so well cared for in Hulcott Care Home. The staff are happy and very helpful. It is also evident my mother's needs and wishes are their priority. Hulcott feels like a proper home rather than a medical care facility. Great sympathetic staff with strong management, lovely food and all in a lovely location.

My mother has been well looked after at Hulcott for the last six months. The staff are always cheerful, helpful, polite, supportive and approachable.

There is a homely feel about Hulcott which you do not always get in purpose-built modern care homes.
