I think Southlands Nursing Home is a wonderful place for people to reside in during their advanced years.

Communication and care, as well as treating people with dignity and kindness, are the most important aspects of any care home and Southlands is excellent at this.

It's a really difficult decision to transfer a loved one to residential care. But when it's to a place like Southlands, it's made so much easier.
Right from the first encounters and enquiries, the beautiful warmth and openness has been a hallmark of the team. You're genuinely welcome any hour of the day or night. Managers are transparent with information, receptive to feedback and make you feel that you are all on one team.
Care staff are kind, professional and patient. Dad has many little quirks which have been accommodated without any difficulty or reluctance. The nursing team are knowledgeable, compassionate and very reassuring.
The food is mouth watering and plentiful; chef Jacqui deserves her legendary status!
The building smells pleasant, and all areas are spotlessly clean. The new proprietor is investing in welcome improvements to the garden and inside areas.

If you are agonising - please don't. Just come and see for yourself how special it is.

Mother entered Southlands nursing home in December 2025 for palliative care.
To say that she was headstrong in her ways and could be difficult to manage. The Staff ( Medical, Carers, Auxiliary, Catering and Management were always Polite, caring and very professional in their daily routine's. Their patience went beyond and the friendly nature was a pleasure at all times.
They made Mothers last Christmas a joy with their carol singing. guitar playing! and gift giving by the staff calling in at each resident in turn a absolute Joy filling the whole residence with a feeling of pure love and happiness.
I thank each and every one of the staff from the bottom of my heart a massive thank you. Mother passed away in peace.

Thank You

This review is our overall comments by the Bayne family following our mother's stay with you for the last five years. Our mum had a wonderful time at Southlands and made many close friends of both the Residents and Staff and they will all be missed by both her and us as a family. The staff are always welcoming and the home kept impeccably clean and with outstanding homemade food by Jacqui which my mum always enjoyed. Also over this long time the nursing and caring staff, there are too many brilliant ones to mention, have met mums wishes and looked after her with a very high level of professional and personal care. We would like to thank every single member of staff for what they have done for mum and also for us as a family and wish all residents and staff of Southlands our best wishes.

My mother entered Southlands for end-of-life care in July. Sadly, she passed within a week. During that time, the care and attention provided by the nursing home staff was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. They were friendly, engaging, and really interested in the people in their care. Mum was totally bed-bound by the time she entered the home, but she was not hidden away and forgotten about. She was placed right at the centre of the home, with constant visits by staff to check on her wellbeing. I am so glad that we chose Southlands for Mum's last few days. It was clear that senior management led by example, and the service provided was exemplary.

I've been a resident of Southland's since 23/5/2023, IAM disabled and bed bound currently 58 year old male, the whole of the staff are amazing, once a month your resident of the day in which they weigh you, when I first come to Southland's I was 8.5 stone, am currently weighing 13.7 stone, you are treated as a person not as a patient, all the staff encouraged you to keep you motivated, moving, all the residents rooms are like hotel rooms and the staff encouraged you to peronised your room as much as you like, in the past year I've had health and personal problems in which the staff have helped me a lot, since being here I've never felt alone,

My Dad moved into Oaklands two weeks ago, we were a bit worried as to how he would get on in a home but he is very happy. The staff are all so lovely, not just with Dad but to my Mum and myself. He has played bingo, with a bit of guidance from the staff, for the 1st time in his life and was very happy when he won. It was his birthday in the week and all the staff made such a fuss of him on his big day and even made him a lovely birthday cake and some of the staff came into his room to sing happy birthday to him.We were permitted to have our own private suprise party for him yesterday with all of his adult grandchildren and partners present. All of the staff are always smiling and always very accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. My dad is well looked after and happy which is such a relief for us all. I would highly recommend this home to anyone. Thank you so much to all of the staff for the care and support that you give to my dad.

Sadly my mum was only at Southlands for a few months before she died, however the love and care that was given to her during that time by all the staff was exemplary, especially in the last few days of her life. Their kindness also extended to myself during difficult circumstances, and I will be forever grateful. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a safe place for their loved ones who require care.

The home was very comfortable in my uncles final weeks. The staff were fantastic, regularly checking in on him and us as visitors, very attentive. My uncle had a lovely room with views of the garden, beautiful setting. The room was a good size with plenty of room for visitors.

I have nothing but respect, admiration and praise for the team at Southlands. During my father's last 7 months, he was cared for with compassion, dignity and a friendly smile. His condition caused him to react unfavourably and sometimes lash out at the staff - a sad demise of a friendly man - he was always treated very well. He would refuse things often but the staff would always try, and if he wouldn't leave the room they would keep checking him & stay for a chat.
It was easy to see the connections the staff made with the residents, be it my Dad or the other residents.
Being a visitor I was always asked if I wanted tea/coffee, extra chairs & so on. I was always welcomed with a smile, and I was always amazed at no matter who answered the door to me, they not only knew me and who I was there to visit, but knew how he had been that day.

Perhaps the best praise comes from my daughter, a 5-year-old medical student who has seen a lot of care homes during her studies and said to me 'this is a good one'.

It was my mother's special birthday (90) and we had arranged a birthday tea for her. The staff really made it special for her. They decorated the room and had a lovely tea and nothing was too much trouble. They constantly checked that we had everything we needed and a good time was had by all that attended.
