Our mum at first did not want to be there, now 2 months later she loves it.
The staff are lovely and the food is excellent. We would highly recommend this home. We are kept informed of any problems. She has and nails done.

My mother lives here, been there for three months now she is a lot happier than I’ve seen her in a long while. She no longer says she doesn’t want to be alive anymore she now eats four meals a day it’s all home-cooked by a lovely chef and there is entertainment every day. My mum’s room is nice she has
her TV up on the wall and all her home comforts around her. I’m so glad to see my mum smile and laugh again. All the staff are amazing nothing is too much trouble.

I am very impressed by the care my husband is receiving in Southlands. All the staff act from a position of compassion and 'love' - they show it in all their interactions with him and also in their dealings with me, in which they are extremely friendly, open and honest. The care they offer is excellent,
so I have every confidence that he is now where he needs to be in order to enjoy the best quality of life that is possible for him, given his condition. Accurate and detailed records are kept of his care, and I am informed of any changes in his condition. If I had any concerns, I would be able to raise them, knowing that they would be taken seriously and responded to in a totally professional manner - but I have none. Thank you, Southlands, for supporting him and our family so well through this incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time.

I have found this nursing home caring. When my husband has been ill, they have sought medical treatment for him. The staff are cheerful, and nothing is too much trouble for them. I know if I have any concerns, they will be dealt with promptly. Each individual resident is treated as an individual. They
are given a choice as regards their meals. Nothing is done as regards their personal care unless asked for permission first.

Care for my mother has been very good. The nursing staff have been quick to take action when health concerns have arisen. They have kept me informed of progress promptly. I have been especially impressed with the way the care and nursing staff have rehabilitated my mother since returning from a long
hospital stay.

Not only did the staff look after my husband, but they also looked after me. Always updating me with my husbands good days, but also bad ones. I felt I had become part of a wonderful family unit. You have to have the special "something" to be a nurse/carer, and this is all found at Southlands. Thank
you one and all.

Firstly, I would like to say 'you can't believe everything you read', and I must say he is fantastic care with staff that have forced so much this year and still offer the same compassion and dignity that they always would. All staff including the management have shown me empathy, and communications
have been great to make sure his end of life is as comfortable as can be. They have updated me and phoned me regarding all matters. He is clean, comfortable, loved and cared for, and I couldn't ask for anymore. I thank you with all my heart, forever in your debt.
Reply from Natalie Allen, Managing Director at Southlands Nursing HomeThank you Joanne for your kind words, they mean the world to the manager and her team. My brother went into Southlands after the loss of our dear mother in April 2019, we are still grieving in many ways. But when we were able to visit the home the staff supported us too. (When hugs were allowed.) They so helped my brother and us through our great loss, the staff and the manager got my
brother home but we all miss our visits and hope when able to visit again soon, the residents also are so lovely to chat to.
Reply from Natalie Allen, Commercial Operations Support at Southlands Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words regarding the care received at Southlands. It was our pleasure to look after your dear brother, and you are all missed very much. When our doors can open again, please know that you are always welcome to pop in. Take care and best wishes.

My sister, who suffers from cerebral palsy and is wheelchair-bound, has lived there for nearly 20 years and the place is her home. The staff treat her superbly and are very helpful to the family. This is my sister's home and she is very happy there.

I have put a question mark by activities as no one has carried out any activities since a staff member left a while ago. I am told that a new staff member for this starts October 1st. Southlands is a lovely care/nursing home. It is spotlessly clean. Food and care are excellent. My Auntie is treated
caringly. She has been a resident for 11 months as is very happy there. Staff are always pleasant and chatty and nothing is too much trouble for them. There is always a warm and cosy atmosphere.

I have always been happy with Southland care. However, as you have had so many staff leave in the past few months, I'm very concerned. I've always thought it a sign of a good and happy home if you have staff who stay. I know you have new management and maybe it's some of the reason.
My sister's needs
are being met and the remaining girls are kind to her. I will watch things carefully in future.

My dad lost his fight with cancer and sadly passed away early hours on the 4th November. We never wanted our dad to go into a care home but realised we just couldn't give him the care he needed any longer. He was admitted into Southlands care home on the 27th October. The whole family cannot express
how well he was looked after in his last days, it exceeded our expectations. The staff were so caring and nothing was too much, he was kept so clean, tidy and cared for with such dignity. Southlands has such a lovely family atmosphere and we highly recommended it as a loving, caring and beautiful care home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.830)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.830) out of 10 for Southlands Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.830 for Southlands Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (214 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 253 Ratings = 4.83
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Southlands Nursing Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
