The care is excellent, which I knew from being there before.
The nursing care is good, and re-assuring. All the staff are friendly and caring and create a happy atmosphere.
The food is excellent, good choices and presented very appetisingly.
I was having respite following a heart procedure, and the experience was great. plenty of time to rest and recuperate.

I would recommend a stay to anyone.

I went straight to Rustington Convalescent Home from the hospital following a total hip replacement. The second time of being there, last time was March 2022 following my other hip replacement surgery. It is the best possible place to recover with excellent care, attention and outstanding food. On both occasions I wouldn't be as well as I am if I hadn't gone there, it certainly kick starts the recovery process. The building is steeped in history, is set in a perfect location, on the flat with wonderful sea views. My consultant recommended RCH last time and I have subsequently recommended others to go there. Having been there before it was lovely to go back and see the same caring staff whom I remembered, it has a feeling of family. I highly recommend this place, and having these ice machines this time, all helped on my journey of recovery. I had the best time there and it felt like a holiday with people all going through similar situations.

Dear Gill, welcome back - there's something rather lovely about returning after four years and still finding so many of the same faces here; that kind of continuity says a great deal about the feeling of family. It's also wonderful that the recommendation has come full circle - recommended to you...

This was my second stay at Rustington following joint replacement surgery.. I cannot praise it highly enough. It provides the perfect bridge between clinical treatment and returning home. The daily schedule is relaxed, with plenty of options, but gently encourages you to work on rehabilitation, with medical care and physiotherapy always available. The accommodation, food and ancillary treatments are provided to the highest standard, while the staff at every level are unique in their blend of professionalism and kindness. And one final point: one meets some fascinating people among the residents, and the opportunities provided for mixing and conversation are really good for morale.

Dear David, it's brilliant to have you back for a second stay with us, and this time you've put into words something we don't always manage to say ourselves - that Rustington sits right at the bridge between hospital treatment and getting properly back on your feet at home. I was a bit apprehensive about going to a convalescent home, but felt at ease as soon as I walked in, I knew immediately that I had made the right decision. The standard of care was exceptional, all the staff were kind, caring and nothing was too much trouble for them, the food was absolutely delicious.
My room was lovely the bathroom was a wet room with a seat in the shower, perfect after a knee replacement operation. It had a sea view which was so beautiful, I woke up in the morning and turned my head and saw the beautiful blue sea with early morning swimmers.

I can highly recommend Rustington Convalescent Home it was absolutely amazing, I could not find a fault with anything. Looking forward to having my other knee done now so I can go back.

Reply from Communications Team, Customer Relations at Rustington Convalescent Home

Wow - you really did catch a beautiful morning, blue sea, sunshine and swimmers! We can't take any credit for that (much as we'd like to). What we can take credit for is the care, the food, and getting the wet room right for you - glad all of that hit the mark. We won't wish another knee replacement on you, but Jennifer, we'd love to welcome you back when the time comes.

I arrived quite poorly and due to the care I received left a week later fully restored. The food is first class as all home cooked and really aids your recovery. The week I spent at RCH following knee replacement surgery was really helpful in my recovery. Gentle care and opportunities to exercise helped me to gain confidence on crutches and by the end of the week I could mobilise around my room using just one crutch.
The staff were all very friendly and encouraging; the food was delicious, and the dining room set up gave opportunities to socialise, as did the activities programme.
The ice machines were excellent at reducing swelling which in turn relieved pain and helped me to sleep. My physio session with Sally Vye helped tremendously. Her expert eye noticed that my crutches needed adjusting and some additional exercises aided my mobility.
The setting of RCH could not be better and the walk down to the sea front, which was challenging at first, was very enjoyable by the end of my stay.

Thank you RCH. I am sure you assisted in my recovery and I have recommended your services to friends.

I was given excellent care whilst staying in Rustington Convalescent home after orthopaedic knee surgery. The care given by both the professional nursing staff, care staff and domestic staff was so supportive and encouraging and the food was excellent too, and I would not hesitate to go there for rehabilitation if I needed further care.

I stayed at Rustington Convalescent Home over the Christmas period 2025 as a respite break. This was the third time I had stayed there; once post-op and two Christmases. It is such a lovely place, all the staff so caring and attentive to anything you need. The food is good and plentiful. I cannot recommend Rustington Convalescent Home enough if you want care after an operation or merely to stay for a respite break.

My knee replacement operation and three-night stay in hospital was booked - but what then? Would I come home and, for most of the time, manage on my own or should I consider the possibility of paying for a week in a Convalescent Home? After research on the internet and discussing the matter with a number of friends, Rustington Convalescent Home kept coming up and so I made contact and am I glad I did!

From my very first conversation with Sandra, I was put at ease and knew that my questions and concerns were being listened to and answered. As soon as I arrived at Rustington, I was made welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were efficient and friendly. It wasn't long before I was relaxing and feeling at home with the four other people at my table in the dining room and who, after a week, had become good friends. What laughs we had and I am sure this contributed to everyone's well-being.

Yes, medical staff were always present but it seemed like an extra holiday!

I received outstanding post operative care in Rustington which was way above my expectation.
All the staff were kind friendly and totally professional. Without their thoughtfulness my recovery would undoubtedly have been slower. The 24/7 support if needed was very reassuring.
The food was varied, delicious and plentiful. Mealtimes were a great time to interact with fellow guests. The home was spotless and nothing was too much trouble.
Although visitors are not allowed in the main premises, there is a beautiful conservatory to meet in.
My stay was much more like a holiday and my family could relax knowing I was in excellent hands.

Thank you very much and to the Worshipful Company of Carpenters.

An excellent place to recover from an extended stay in hospital.
The whole team are very welcoming, caring and supportive. The food is excellent as are the facilities. Bedrooms are comfortable and well presented. Lounges are beautifully decorated with comfortable chairs and perfect sea views across the well cared for gardens.

I would definitely recommend Rustington Convalescence Home to anyone needing support between hospital and home and to anyone with a long-term medical condition needing a little break.

My experience started on my journey from the hospital to Rustington when I received a call from a friendly lady asking what I would like for lunch it was a lovely surprise and totally unexpected. On arrival you are welcomed by members of staff one of whom took my suitcase to my room, the other showed me to the dining room and settled at a table with 3 other ladies. The food was fresh, of high quality and plentiful throughout my stay. Wonderful location overlooking the sea with beautifully kept gardens. My room was spotlessly clean, with it's own on suite and ample storage space. Ice machine, an optional extra was very beneficial for me, the physiotherapists were professional, friendly and very knowledgeable. I could wax lyrical about the staff they are amazing every single one of them, always greeted with a smile, available to have a chat, help you with anything including dressing. Booking process was easy and very straight forward. I would highly recommend to anyone.

The reason I went to Rustington Convalescent home was because my Sister had been there after a knee operation and spoke very highly of the place.
I went to see if I would be able to go after a hip operation
From the moment we arrived which was lunchtime we were looked after.. we were shown our lovely rooms with a member of staff showing us details of the day,
We went to the surgery to have our obs done. Lovely kind nurse.
Nothing was too much trouble. We were assured that the staff were there to attend to our very need,
and they were.
We were designated to a table in the dining room where we met others who were recuperating from various operations that they had had.,
and we were able to compare notes etc.
The food was entirely freshly made at every meal which was superb.
There was a physio on call and I enjoyed 2 sessions. Very helpful to painful parts.
The home is in beautiful grounds with seats on the patio where we could sit

I just hope I will be able to go there soon.

After a serious operation and almost 3 weeks in hospital, I spent 2 amazing, healing weeks at Rustington, in a beautiful environment, despite the current repair works, that gave me the confidence to return home.
3 regular, delicious meals, freshly prepared by chefs, always adapted to my needs of low carb diet. And despite eating 2 puddings and home made cake daily, I didn't put on any weight. The nurses took care of me much more than I had anticipated and gave me good advice. All staff were so nice and helpful and it was lovely to make friends with some of the other residents and hear their stories.
And my daily walks along the sea helped me gain strength very quickly.
Looking forward to going to Rustington helped me through all the difficult times before and after the operation, only to find that all my expectations had been surpassed.

Incredibly, the stays are subsidised, I wouldn't have been able to afford them otherwise.

I was recommended a respite/rehab stay after 2 friends who also recently had their hip replacements and enjoyed 10-14 days there.
All the departments work seamlessly together (I also met many great long term staff 23-26 years service there!), from physio, nursing, care assistants, management, dining room, catering team, the gardeners &the activities team were all excellent. It's like a small family, with amazing support for each resident. I was so impressed from the booking process, the initial greeting&settling in, the delicious meals, afternoon tea (thank you chef for my gluten free treats!) the care, laughter, wonderful gardens & resident fox.

The long corridors encourage everyone to walk &the path to the gate & seafront was a well trodden one. I was not able to get a sea view (I booked late) but if I went back I would double check about when & where the building works were taking place as it was hard to rest in the day.Thank you for looking after me & assisting my rehab.

I arrived straight from hospital after having a new knee fitted!, I was welcomed with a smile and was taken with my suitcase directly to my bedroom which was very welcoming and cosy !
I arrived at about 12 noon and I was taken after i had made myself comfortable, down to the dining room where lunch was being served at 12.30. I was seated a a table with three other ladies who were very friendly and I learned the ropes about ordering my meals for the day! The food was delicious and very appetising! We were served with three meals a day with coffee am and afternoon tea pm! I was then able to explore my surroundings which were lovely and the weather was so kind for the whole week so I was able to walk in the beautiful gardens and also to walk down and have a look at the sea!
The nursing staff and catering staff were fantastic and would go the extra mile for you! Even washing feet and legs! Also a cup of tea in bed at 7am!

I would recommend this nursing home to anyone fit for a King!

My stay was for seven days following a hip replacement. I had no idea what to expect as a resident, although I came as a visitor long ago. The staff and the physiotherapists were knowledgeable and reassuring and this greatly helped my situation. More than a convalescent home, Rustington is a focus of recovery and rehabilitation with its unmatched view of the sea. It is comfortably and brightly furnished and its cleanliness is exemplary. My room was large and comfortable although I have criticised certain design details . I am convinced that the regular pattern of the day helps recovery. I had the same tablemates throughout, from the four corners of the earth. We formed a considerable bond in the course of one week. It is an excellent idea to make sure everyone mixes with other residents: some are in difficult circumstances with no-one to look after them at home. I would not hesitate to recommend Rustington for remedial care and would certainly go back.

I had my hip replaced in November 2025 and I remember a friend of mine saying she decided to go and stay at your convalescence home to convalesce after her knee operation for a couple of weeks for her recovery and how much it had helped her. I had heard good reports also about this home so decided to book myself in.
I wasn't disappointed, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was lovely. There were all sorts of therapy to help with my recovery, the meals on offer were plentiful and delicious, and I met some lovely people on my stay.
All in all nothing was too much trouble for all the staff. If I ever have to have another operation I would not hesitate to choose Rustington Convalescence Home again.

I put 4 stars for my room only because it was a little dated , but they were in the middle of renovations at the time of my stay and I must say the rooms look so much brighter and modern.

My two week stay at Rustington followed a total knee replacement operation. I knew it would be difficult for me to manage at home as I live alone. It was reassuring to have trained medical personnel available to deal with any concerns and the care shown was much appreciated.
My sessions with the physiotherapists were so helpful. The meals were excellent and the catering staff were so friendly. The food was, in fact, much better than anything I had in France on a recent weekend trip with my family.
I should like to return for a holiday!
