I stayed at Rustington Convalescent home after my knee replacement operation and can confidently say that the care I received whilst I was there was a major factor in my swift recovery. The staff were excellent and I was well looked after. The food was amazing, the accommodation comfortable and the
ice machine I used 3 times a day not only reduced the swelling very quickly but meant I was virtually pain free and able to walk confidently by the end of my stay. Rustington convalescent home provided home from home comfort and a calm recovery environment enabling me to quickly regain my independence with the added bonus of great sea views. I would highly recommend it for anyone recovering from surgery.

I spent a week at Rustington following total hip replacement surgery. I cannot recommend the Home enough. All the staff were amazing, the Home is beautifully designed and furnished, and the convalescent care exemplary. It is a very relaxing place and there is absolutely no pressure to go beyond what
you can manage. The ice machine was a revelation, and the physios were extremely helpful. The Home was spotless (the housekeepers were very friendly and more than happy to chat), and the home cooked food was just 'what the doctor ordered'. No doubt I will be back there when I need the other hip replaced!
Reply from Communications Team, Customer relations at Rustington Convalescent HomeHello and thank you for taking the time to write a review - and a lovely one at that! We hope you are enjoying a happy and active life with your new hip and are so glad we were able to help in the first stages of your recovery. Although we do not wish another hip replacement on you, we would be very happy to see you again! With best wishes from us all at Rustington Convalescent Home

I arrived straight from hospital and was feeling apprehensive, almost immediately I was met by a member of the medical staff who gave me a great deal of encouragement and told me others felt the same and within 24 hours felt better. Within a day felt completely at home, a very nice bedroom, looking
out to sea spotlessly clean, peaceful and quiet. The staff went about their duties with a quiet, good humoured manner and it was a pleasure watching them in action. I could go on forever telling you how good they all were but the proof is in staying there.

I stayed following surgery to my arm.
The care and kindness I was given was amazing and certainly helped with my recovery.
The staff were professional, knowledgeable and very thoughtful.
The home was spotlessly clean.
The food was excellent. Beautifully presented and everything was done with so
much thought and care. Very high standard.
Thoroughly recommend staying at this convalescent home.

I arrived at the Rustington in the evening just as the present residents were finishing supper. The tone for the next fortnight was set by the staff leading applause for my (late) arrival from a hospital in Brighton. My following stay was marked by the positive care and good humour of the staff, confirmed
early
next morning by a cup of tea brought to my room by a nurse who then checked my medication. This continued throughout my stay. The Home occupies an impressive building which faces the sea. A complete restorationof its rooms and furnishings to a very high standard is matched by care for residents and of the good humour of the staff which is outstanding. The rooms themselves have been skillfully equipped in their bathroom facilities and the public rooms are delightful. The lifts are new, corridors wide, the rooms completely re-equipped to a high standard. Meals are quite outstandingly prepared, judged, and served!
And enjoyably conversational!!

I came a few weeks after major surgery for respite care as I live on my own and my family were no longer able to stay with me at home.
I was very apprehensive but made to feel at ease as soon as I walked through the door.
I didn't actually need all the nursing care but it was on hand had I required
it.
All staff were attentive and treated you with such care and compassion.
The overall feeling was one of a hotel stay rather than a conversant home.with excellent facilities ,a few activities on offer, ,good quality food , attentive staff and I was luck enough to have a bedroom with a seaview.
My stay definitely built me up and enabled me to return home with the confidence to continue my recovery journey at home alone.
I honestly could not recommend this establishment highly enough...
Reply from Communications Team, Customer relations at Rustington Convalescent HomeThank you for your encouraging words. I'm very glad my hip surgeon recommended I apply to convalesce at Rustington (18-28 December). My en-suite room was a good size with a large shower room so that a nurse could help me at first. The staff who clearly enjoyed their work catered for all our needs, including physiotherapy, and the personal
care we required post-op was warm, professional and considerate. While there, I had no cares, and a great advantage to me was that neither did my relations and friends. Also, the visiting regime meant that we knew no-one would bring in infections from outside. The public areas were adorned with Christmas decorations, the staff were all in festive mood and there were several entertaining events. Some guests were not convalescing, but there just to enjoy Christmas. The food was excellent and in every public respect it was like staying in a good hotel, and at very reasonable cost. I have recommended Rustington to several people since.

I stayed in Rustington for 12 days after knee replacement surgery. It was a wonderful place to recover and to prepare me for going home where I live alone. The food was delicious, home-cooked and nutritious. The staff were exceptionally kind and capable. Nothing was too much trouble, The environment
was beautiful and comfortable and the sea view was a delight.
The atmosphere was that of a country hotel, not a care home.
I would recommend it to anyone needing post-operative or respite care.

My Husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our second Christmas stay as much as our first.
The food and drink is as good as any five-star hotel.
The accommodation is excellent, providing wonderful views of the seafront from the lounges as well as the conservatory.
All of the staff, those in the kitchen,
the cleaners/housekeeping, administration, nurses and care assistants are all kind, caring, accommodating, and friendly. They are professional and empathetic and ensure that your time at RCH is stress free, which is most important whether you are post operative our staying for respite care.
Staying at RCH is sheer bliss - can't wait to go back in June !

The best place for recuperating from major surgery. Set on the seafront at Rustington in West Sussex.A beautiful building that is only surpassed by the wonderful care that you receive. All of the staff are super friendly and extremely helpful. There is medical staff on hand if you have any concerns
and the food is excellent and plentiful! My only complaint if you could call it that is that my room was exceedingly small (but they do vary) but it was adequate and had what I needed plus I had wonderful views of the sea. At the time of writing lots of the bedrooms are being refurbished to a very high standard, mine wasnt one of them but I hardly spent any time in my room as there was often things going on to join in or sit in the lovely lounges or grounds I had physio which was an extra charge but well worth it. I wouldn't hesitate to go there again if I needed to as you can concentrate on your recovery and not have to worry about anything else as everything is done for you.
Reply from Communications Team, Customer relations at Rustington Convalescent HomeWe really appreciate you taking the time to leave such an extensive review and are so pleased you liked Rustington Convalescent Home and its unique setting. I am sorry you felt your bedroom was small but are glad you enjoyed the sea views. It's also great that you took advantage of the numerous lounges and grounds as well as participating in activities as this all helps towards a successful recovery. As you mentioned we have recently undergone extensive refurbishment and you are more than welcome to revisit to see the improvements. Thank you for your kind words and we wish you all the very best in continued good health.

I went to the Rustington Convalescents Home for 2 weeks over Christmas 2025 to recover from a hip replacement operation. An excellent place. clean, well run, nursing and physio staff to hand, excellent and varied food. Felt properly cared for, a temperature check every day was very reassuring. With
Physio help I made a good recovery. I am due to have the other hip replaced soon and without doubt I will be seeking to go there again. I felt it was money well spent.

Hello there

I booked myself into Rustington Care Home straight from the hospital after my knee replacement op. I have nothing but praise for the staff who did exactly what I hoped they would do - they got me used to walking with crutches and to going up and down stairs, so that I was fully prepared

to go home and get on with my life.
I really don't think I could have done it without them.

It is a very friendly place, the food was excellent and there are lots of opportunities to interact with the other guests. I have no hesitation in recommending them for any kind of rehabilitation needs.

I would echo all the comments about the sensational care you receive at the RCH. Living on my own I have been visiting as a respite client lately with two Christmas visits and another planned for june. The superb food, comfortable accomodation the welcome and care given by the staff and the position
by the sea and freedom to go out is perfect. The best way to describe my visit is "Going on a cruise without the rocking and endless days at sea"
Thank you all for the care you give each individual who comes through your doors.

I had an emergency hernia operation and needed a place to recover and renew my appetite.
Please look at my previous remarks. They are good. The rooms have been undated since i have heard.
The staff has not changed much since I had my first stay after open heart surgery.
They were always helpful
. Food excellent which helped me get my appetite back.
Beautiful views over the sea and a conservatory to sit in in the sun. Visitors always welcome.
I needed to give an excellent review as good was not good enough. I hope to go again soon.
Reply from Communications Team, Customer Relations at Rustington Convalescent HomeThank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful and generous review. This is a most remarkable place and exceeds all expectations. Others have commented on the facilities and the outstanding dedication of the staff. I can only echo those commends and endorse them fully. The whole environment in this establishment is highly conducive to post operative recovery and it
is hard to imagine a more delightful environment. My stay was seamless from arrival to departure tinged by sadness when the day for departure came. Mitigated by the knowledge that I shall be returning within six months following the replacement of my other knee. So grateful thanks to the company for continuing to support this unique facility and to the Manager, her colleagues and staff, for outstanding care.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.871)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.871) out of 10 for Rustington Convalescent Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.946 for Rustington Convalescent Home is calculated as follows: ( (193 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 202 Ratings = 4.946
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rustington Convalescent Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
