My Dad has lived the last 3 years at The Old Lodge Nursing Home. The management team and highly skilled professional nursing staff provide exemplary care. The nurses cared for Dad with compassion and patience and showed him respect as the individual he was. Their patience was important as dad could
be very trying at times but loving. The fantastic auxiliary staff provides fresh clean laundry, a spotlessly clean room, and very importantly for Dad, food that met his culinary expectations. An extra thanks to all the above people for the kindness they each extended to Dad, that of friendship shown in the times they stopped to chat to him, to share a joke, and above all to laugh with him. We believe this kindness and the exceptional care he received extended Dad's life enabling him to reach his 90th Birthday before he passed away, having lived a happy comfortable last few years there. I can recommend the entrustment of any loved one's care and happiness to these wonderful professionals.

My mother is getting wonderful care, and I have no doubt it has extended her life in a very positive way. I am so great full for the management and nursing staff of The Old Lodge. I’m living 5,000 miles away in another country, and I find it so easy to gain information, and I’m encouraged to have a
FaceTime conversation with Mum. Thank you, Old Lodge.

My 101-year-old mother has been a resident here for two years. The Home is exceptional. Staff at all levels are professional, caring and highly skilled. It is an immaculate, happy, well-fed home. It is covid-free to date. The management works hard to strike a balance between maintaining the mental well-being
of residents and the need to stay Covid-safe. Although my mother can no longer enjoy her daily family visits, I can spend time with her weekly by appointment, adhering to strict infection control. Carers are unfailingly kind; they facilitate video calls with family members and arrange individual activities for my mum in her room or just take time to sit and chat with her and keep her company.
Reply from Khadiga Orta, Director at The Old Lodge Nursing HomeIt is always so very well appreciated comments from family members who are happy with the service we provide, particularly at present with the challenges we face in the care sector. Thank you on behalf of all at the nursing home.

Since my son has been at The Old Lodge he seems very happy and has come on in leaps and bounds, he is well cared for and looked after. The staff here are very professional, kind and understanding they go the extra mile for my son and me. In a month I have seen a great change in my son, he is clean,
happy and well cared for. I highly recommend this care home if you want the best service for your loved ones.

The Victorians built an isolation hospital in the country, just outside Etwall, Derbyshire which has been transformed into a 5 star care home, for up to 40 guests, called The Old Lodge. I am an elderly gentleman who arrived here from hospital in March this year. The first thing you notice is that everywhere
is spotlessly clean. Every room is cleaned from top to bottom every morning and all door handles and surfaces are sanitised. I have an adjustable bed and call button to request help 24 hours a day. It is a happy place with much laughter coming from the staff despite the unpleasant jobs necessary in this kind of establishment. The staff of different nationalities are extremely kind and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The catering is done in house and you always have a choice which is incredible when you consider what is involved. I would highly recommend this as a care home.

I have been visiting this care home for 5 years now and have been very impressed by the care, friendliness and competance of staff at all levels.
There is always someone willing to help if there is a need. Residents are treated with dignity and caring is personal and sensitive to each one. Facilities
are good and cleanliness is paramount.

My mother was a resident in The Old Lodge Nursing Home from February 2020 until she passed away on March 2nd 2020. During her short stay at the home she was treated with the utmost dignity and respect. I cannot thank the staff enough for the care shown to my mum but also the other residents. We visited
twice and day and always received a warm welcome from the staff and offered tea or coffee at regular intervals.

We were lucky to find The Old Lodge when my elderly mother came out of hospital in September 2018 needing nursing care. As I live in a different part of the country and cannot visit too often it was important for me to know that she would receive the care and attention she deserves. I need not have
worried as the highly professional team at The Old Lodge have been outstanding, treating my mum with care, compassion, understanding and above all dignity. They are always on hand to answer concerns and keep me updated whenever needed. A special mention for the food on offer which is nutritional and varied and is home-cooked on the premises. Mum is very food fussy but I know she generally enjoys the menu which is not easy to achieve. Senior management, as well as the nursing and administration teams, have been exemplary so without hesitation I would highly recommend The Old Lodge to anyone.

My dad was in the Old Lodge for 3 months and unfortunately died at the end of July, it's hard to know where to start in my praise of the care he received.
From the very first moment we visited the Old Lodge (unannounced) to take a look at it I was so impressed, the clean fresh smell is the first thing
I noticed, anyone who has visited a few care/nursing homes will know that this isn't always the case. The staff were friendly and professional and were happy to give us a full tour of the home.
We were so pleased to be able to get him a place there and I have nothing but praise for both the staff and the facilities. My dad was treated with kindness and respect, I'm not going to name any of the staff individually as they were all excellent but the nursing staff who specifically looked after him were fantastic.
They laid on a lovely birthday party for him a few weeks ago and when he died the staff couldn't have been kinder.

Thank you so much to everyone at Old Lodge for everything.

My mother was taken to The Old Lodge for respite care after being treated in hospital after a stroke and a water infection. Mum had always insisted that she never wanted to go into a care home, however, after the first day at The Old Lodge, she had decided that she wanted to stay! Sadly, it was a relatively
short stay, during which she formed a close bond with all of the staff. Each and every one of the staff are kind and dedicated to their job and I could not have wished for a nicer home for Mum to end her days in. She was totally spoilt by the staff, who all fell in love with her, as she was a very sweet and loving old lady. However, her condition deteriorated and we were kept informed at every stage. After her sad passing, the staff all lined the exit as Mum was taken out, so respectful and it was incredibly touching. I can't thank the management and staff enough for the care and respect shown to Mum in her final days. I would recommend The Old Lodge to anyone at any time. Thank you.

My Auntie had the privilege of moving into Old Lodge for the last years of her life. I visited regularly at all different times and days and was pleased to note whenever I called, the level of care was exemplary and consistent. As a family we travelled a long way we were always made to feel very welcome
and were offered refreshments every time. During the last week of my aunties life we virtually lived there. They kept my auntie immaculate, pain-free and as comfortable as was humanly possible respecting, her dignity the whole of the time. Not only were her needs met but so were ours. A constant flow of drinks, food, an honest up to date report of her condition and all our questions answered very professionally and sensitively. The matron led by example and came to see us regularly to make sure we all had our needs met and to answer any questions we had, at the same time checking my auntie was comfortable and pain-free. I can not recommend this place highly enough a wonderful place to live.

My brother and I were so glad to find The Old Lodge for our Dad. He was only there 6 months but it felt like home from home.
It is of such high standards and a lovely warm happy atmosphere. All the staff are so welcoming, kind, understanding and highly competent at their jobs.
Our Dad had Parkinsons
and was unable to do anything for himself, he was he was treated with such dignity. During his last weeks, he was comfortable and pain-free, he passed away with lots of love and care around him. It is a first-class nursing home and we can not thank you all enough.

Since moving to The Old Lodge my 97-year-old Father has had the most wonderful care. He has been treated with the utmost respect, kindness and loving care. The family is overwhelmed by the kindness shown not only to my father but also to us when we visit. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, and
we appreciate it. We would not hesitate to recommend this home, and in fact, have already done so. A lot of work is being undertaken at present and this will only enhance the atmosphere of the home. My father's room is in need of refurbishment, but his care is of greater importance at this difficult time.

My dad was admitted earlier last year as he needed to go into a nursing home due to deterioration of his Parkinson's. When he went in all the staff were amazing and I can't find anything to fault with the level of care he receives. Due to the nature of his Parkinson's he has to have a very high level
of care as he is prone to infections. Every time he has not been 100% a doctor has been called just to check him over. I am sure that if he wasn't getting that level of care he would not be as well as he has been. The staff have always kept us informed of any changes to my dad and also recommend if he needs anything to help make his ongoing care.
For anyone looking for a nursing home then this place is excellent, clean, safe and provides exemplary care. They put the residents care and well being first and are made to feel like an individual at all times.
I would hand on heart recommend the Old Lodge Nursing Home to anyone and couldn't imagine my dad being anywhere else.

From the minute I walked into the Old Lodge I sensed a happy and safe atmosphere. The staff were welcoming, the place was clean and the rooms, beds and equipment were of an extremely high standard.
The staffing levels are high and the carers and nurses are carefully trained to a high standard.
The
catering and cleaning staff also showed dignity and respect towards the residents.
It was such a worry finding a suitable place of care for my 90 year old mother after leaving hospital, but I, my family and my sister were continuously impressed. We felt that our mother, who was deteriorating with vascular dementia approved our choice.
When she passed away, having staying at the Old Lodge for just over a year, the staff treated both my mother and our family with the utmost respect and care.
I cannot recommend the Old Lodge Nursing Home highly enough.

Excellent nursing Home Care in the peaceful surroundings of Etwall, Derbyshire.
The senior staff and the team have always been extremely caring and professional in their approach.
Medical care in the form of GP visits or A&E attendances have always been available when required. It can often be difficult
to know when a chronic Nursing Home resident requires medical attention but staff at Old Lodge are particularly skilled in this regard.

We would like to thank the management and staff at The Old Lodge Etwall on behalf of our family for the care and dedication they gave to our mum while she was with them following a serious illness. The care they gave was compassionate to both ourselves and mum and allowed her to pass away with the utmost
dignity in comfortable surroundings after a long illness. We felt totally at ease and confident at all times that she was receiving the best care by all the staff that always went beyond mark while giving us support to deal with the obvious outcome for our mum. When she finally passed away we visited her to find they had arranged her with flowers in her hands, soft lights and gentle music playing and the final goodbye was something nice to remember after the distress of the weeks before at last, she was at peace.
The staff can only be described as angels without wings.
Special thanks to the caring staff, we will never forget their kindness.

We cannot possibly thank the matron and all of the staff at The Old Lodge enough, for all of the loving care and attention that my mum received. She was happy and comfortable for the last few months of her life which is all a family could wish for.

She was, through extremely vigilant and attentive

nursing care, kept free of pain and discomfort to pass away peacefully with family at her bedside.

My mum went into The Old Lodge in May 2013 and is still a resident there. We moved her from another care home where she was not looked after properly and was in a very poor state of health when she arrived at The Old Lodge, but their care instantly turned her around to a more healthy person. From the
day she arrived, the staff have given her the best possible love, care and dignity making her life as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

The home has a very friendly and warm atmosphere and we can find no complaints about the set up there in Etwall. It's set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside and has some fantastic views from most rooms looking out over the farmland. All the staff do their utmost to make residents and their families and friends who visit most welcome. Tea and coffee is always offered to visitors.

We can't praise the home highly enough. We would certainly recommend the home to anyone wanting the best quality of care for their loved one.

Thank you Matron and team.

My husband was a resident at The Old Lodge for just under 18 months. He had previously spent 8 months in a spinal unit. On arrival at The Old Lodge, he was given a lovely room with views over the countryside. All the Staff were welcoming and very caring to him. My husband had quite a few medical issues
but the staff treated him with dignity, patience and compassion at all times. When I visited I was always welcomed with a smile and given cups of tea and encouraged to join in the various social events which took place over the year.
During the time my husband was a resident, I and my family got to know all the staff, down from the Matron to the cook and handyman and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Words cannot express how grateful I am to the Matron and her staff for supporting my husband, myself and family during this most stressful time. I will never forget their kindness, care and compassion and would certainly recommend The Old Lodge Nursing Home to anyone.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.938)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.938) out of 10 for The Old Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.938 for The Old Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (289 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 308 Ratings = 4.938
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Lodge Nursing Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
