Wiltshire Heights is an exceptional 63-bed care home in Bradford-on-Avon with a highly-trained, compassionate team on hand 24 hours a day to provide exceptional residential, dementia, nursing and respite care. My aunt expressed a wish to go into Wilshire Heights following a fall. Your person was extremely helpful in arranging her admission, guiding us quickly through the process and putting my aunt's and my concerns, about respite care for a mentally agile but physically vulnerable 92-year-old, at ease. My
aunt felt well cared for during her stay and feels she can go back at any time - although she now wants to live at home. The only issue you could consider is improving the mobile phone connectivity in the rooms or improving the connectively of the wireless landline phones you use. My aunt also asked if it was possible to dress here earlier, but I am not clear if she raised this with yourselves first which she should have done.

My mother has been a resident at Wiltshire Heights for several months and has settled in well. The staff are friendly and well-motivated and the facilities are excellent. I have been impressed by how the management of the home, have coped with the challenges of the Covid pandemic and have carefully

My sister and I were very apprehensive as we dropped Dad off for respite care for the first time during the lockdown. But the professionalism and the empathy the staff displayed, allayed our concerns and anxiety. They were proactive in making everything right for Dad. He was recovering from a bad back
and the team went out of their way to make the room comfortable for his short stay. Dad enjoyed the library room and reported back that all the staff were friendly, attentive and caring. He attended a birthday party for another resident who was celebrating 100 years. His 3-week stay - that he had been dreading - went by very quickly under the superb care of the staff team. And the management team were happy to keep my sister and I informed about how he was doing during a period of lockdown when we were unable to visit at all. Overall, it was a very positive experience.

My mother, at 97 and after a fractured hip operation, reluctantly became a resident at Wiltshire Heights Care Home in May 2017. She was depressed and in low mood having lost her husband, home and friends. With gentle, dignified care, Wiltshire Heights soon restored her old cheerful self. She continued
in good health, enjoying the excellent food, beautifully presented at restaurant standard. She soon settled into the lovely accommodation. The activities team introduced her to a varied range of new experiences and frequent special occasions which she thoroughly enjoyed. But what makes Wiltshire Heights beyond 'outstanding' is it's excellent and inspiring manager who leads her 'family team' by example, and the wonderful care staff who quickly became my mother's friends. They actively sustained both her physical and mental health. While usually a happy person, her developing dementia sometimes made her difficult, but her carers always managed to bring her back to her old self. They celebrated her 100th birthday with her in lockdown and the family joining on Skype, making a memorably happy occasion. I will always feel indebted to those who gave such exceptional care to my lovely mother during her final days and hours.

I cannot speak highly enough about the help, care and assistance that we have received in placing our relative into Wiltshire Heights. They have made her so welcome and she has settled in really well. The peace of mind knowing that our cousin is safe is priceless.
The staff have been extremely helpful
in so many ways to ensure that the transition has gone as smoothly as it could have, especially given the current Covid situation.
Our cousin is already looking so much better, enjoying the good food and numerous activities that the staff put on.

Ever since my mother went to live at Wiltshire Heights we have been delighted with the care and kindness that she has been shown by the wonderful staff and carers. My wife and I visited very regularly before the recent crisis and the friendliness of the whole place is a constant reassurance. At the
height of lockdown, my mother had to go to hospital. This was handled efficiently and swiftly.

My mother recently moved to Wiltshire Heights after a sudden deterioration in her dementia. The home is a lovely environment with lots of appropriate activities to stimulate her.
It is clean, welcoming and a home from home. They have maintained great communication during the Covid-19 pandemic and enabled
tea parties through FaceTime etc - really happy with the home.

Mum moved into Wiltshire Heights Care Home on the first day of the COVID lockdown and it hasn't been an easy transition for her. The staff have done their utmost to help her settle in difficult circumstances and keep me informed along the way. I can't comment on activities or care as I haven't been
in and the activities haven't happened during COVID.


I know the home is good but haven't been there enough to put 'Excellent'.

Wiltshire Heights is a pleasant care home and the staff are caring and do their best under sometimes challenging circumstances. This being said please be aware if your relative's dementia progresses they may be asked to leave and this was highly distressing in our particular experience.

Prior to admission to our home, we are always completely transparent with prospective residents and their representatives, that whilst many people can remain in our care throughout their dementia journey, that there are occasions, albeit rare, where this may not always be the case. In these rare instances, we are in constant discussion with the supporting person or persons highlighting any concerns as soon as they arise, conducting resident care reviews, engaging a multi-disciplinary approach with external healthcare partners and experts, all in the hope of finding a solution for the Resident to remain in our care. It is with great reluctance where these efforts fail, that we are left with no alternative but to support the family to find the right environment where the changing needs of their loved one can continue to be met.

Could there be more classical music played instead of the usual pop music?
My father and I are sure other residents would appreciate more variety.
Could there be more outside visits, including music concerts etc which would stimulate my father's memory?

Thank you for your review. We note your comments with regards to music in the home. We play a variety of music within the home to reflect the different musical tastes of our residents and this is monitored by the senior team within the home. We offer many opportunities to connect with classical music in the home through visiting performers and externally through trips to the Wiltshire Music Centre which we have done three times so far this year. This is offered to all residents and we try and facilitate as many of those who wish to go to attend, hiring extra transport where needed. We also have been running this year “music appreciation” sessions where residents have an opportunity to listen to their favourite classical pieces either on a 1-1 basis or in a group. Lastly, we have created the “music room” on Poppy where residents are free to go either independently, with their families or carers to listen to any music they wish or even use some of the instruments in the room. Please ask to speak to a member of the Leisure and Wellness team who will be able to feed back to you about your loved ones' specific interaction with our musical activities.

I received the most wonderful, kind, respectful treatment of myself and my relative. Nothing was too much trouble and the care my relative was given was so mindful of his well being, dignity and pride. I will never be able to thank the nursing and care staff, as well as the manager and deputy manager

Clean and warm, accommodation is good.
Food looks OK but doesn't always taste great - biscuits and Quavers for an evening meal (for my mother) on one occasion - not good! Juice with mould reported - resolved.
Issues with clothing getting muddled up and shrunk - the former was resolved.
Frustrations
around giving probiotics approved by GP - now resolved.
At reviews staff tend to be defensive/patronising - had to be assertive.
Faecal matter on duvet cover and bed not made properly - resolved.
Reported incident relating to personal handling - all correct procedures followed, fully informed.
Offers a reasonable standard of care, but pro-active care is lacking.
Lack of suitable activities, limited interaction between carers and residents other than while offering practical care - limited stimulus.
A regular team offering familiarity and consistency - some are exceptionally kind and patient.
The manager is approachable and responsive.

Thank you for taking time to share your experience. In care homes, it is difficult to always get things right first time, and I appreciate your acknowledgement of our resolution of the minor issues you have raised with us. We take a great deal of pride in being a responsive provider and as you already know, I operate an open door policy to allow such feedback and resolution to take place without delay.
Our evening meal at Wiltshire Heights is a lighter option as residents are offered a three course lunch and afternoon snacks so therefore may not be hungry at supper time. We do have a comprehensive snack menu, sandwiches, fruit, etc. available 24 hours a day. Residents choose themselves what they wish to eat and we oblige those requests and document them accordingly.
I am sorry that you feel that we are not offering stimulating activities. This is unusual given our 100% approval rating by residents and relatives received via our feedback questionnaires. Whilst I cannot discuss your mothers' individual needs and abilities within this forum, I would welcome a conversation with our Leisure and Wellness team, supported by myself to talk through your expectations in this regard. I note that your relatives' view on our activity provision differs to your own so it may be useful for all to be present at such a meeting.

Hello, my name is Charlie Osgood, and I am the Home Manager here at Wiltshire Heights.


I started my career in care in 1992, working nights as a carer in a nursing home. I loved the job, and it prompted me to undertake my nurse training in London and return to the same nursing home in 2000 in the position of home manager. I then managed this home for three years.


In the 20 years that followed, I have managed two other nursing homes, worked as a training and development manager and also been a regional manager for a small care provider consisting of five care homes.


I am passionate about care and the need to build positive relationships and work in partnership with our residents, their loved ones, our team, local professionals and advocates to achieve the best possible care and outcomes for individuals living in our home, and I am particularly excited about the opportunity to manage a home as impressive as Wiltshire Heights.

I have experience working in various customer service roles, from group reservations and event management to regional sales management. I came into the care sector hoping to use my experience to support our residents in living a well-rounded life. Hello, my name is Sally Bullock, and I am the Head Housekeeper here at Wiltshire Heights.


I originally joined Wiltshire Heights as a night carer and eventually became head housekeeper. I loved both roles, however, I feel housekeeping is where my talents really lie. Before this, I worked in a senior school, however after 25 years I decided I wanted to try something different.


As part of my role, I have the privilege of spending time with our residents on a daily basis, mingling and chatting with them and finding out whether there is anything I can do for them. I am lucky to have a great team who keeps our home sparkling clean and shares my sentiment that nothing is too much for our lovely residents.
