Loughton Hall, Loughton, Essex

Loughton Hall is a residential home registered to provide care for elderly people. The Home is set in approximately two acres of grounds situated in the heart of picturesque Loughton, Essex. That has been converted from a Queen Anne style Grade II listed building/manor. The manor has undergone an extensive renovation programme and has been very sympathetically restored to its forma glory. The Home has been beautifully furnished to a very high specification and all bedrooms benefit from having their own private en-suite facility. There is a private disabled access to St. Nicholas Church. Loughton Hall is conveniently located close to all local amenities and transport links.

Loughton Hall was replaced by the present building by Reverend J. W. Maitland who re-built the manor in 1878. The Maitland family held the manor for much of the 19th century. Amongst its occupiers consisted of Mary Tudor before she became queen of England in 1553. It has played host to many Royals including Queen Elizabeth in 1561 and 1578, as well as King James 1 in 1605.

The Home Manager runs an 'open door policy' and is always happy to help. Care workers encourage relatives to take part in all the activities that take place in the home.

As well as quality care, residents have an active lifestyle supported, with many interesting dates organised for their benefit, while the home's philosophy is to maintain dignity and respect at all times. Bedrooms are en-suite and special diets are catered for, while specialised hoists help those with mobility issues.

The Review Score of 6.8 (maximum of 10) for Loughton Hall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Loughton Hall in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 2.0 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.778 for Loughton Hall is calculated as follows: ( (28 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.778

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 1.978 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Loughton Hall is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5 then divided by 2 = 1.750

    2. Target of 6.6 positive Reviews (33 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 6.6 Target = 0.455 , then divided by 2 = 0.228

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

When it became evident in 2015 that mum was not going to be able to carry on living in her own home, we began the difficult task of finding a care home where she would be happy and well cared for. After visiting many homes as soon as we had visited Loughton Hall we knew we had found the right one. The home has a good feel about it. The staff are all excellent, treating the residents with dignity and kindness. The home itself is clean, spacious and comfortable with a large garden for residents use. Meal times are looked forward to, which says it all! Could not have a better person for activities and entertainment. It is good to know that mum is happy and well cared for.
