My mother is happy at Horse Fair Care Home because the staff show her kindness, love and brilliant care. Staff communicate with me about any changes in Mum's condition and I feel she is very safe here. Mum's also enjoying the brilliant activities and lovely food.

My friend needs staff to go into her more so she has somebody to talk to, she gets lonely but won't ask for help often. We feel the care given is good but also feel that things like bath and hair dos should be done more frequently without people having to ask.
Reply from Ryan Farrelly, Marketing Assistant at Horse Fair Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for taking the time to review our home, all of our staff strive to maintain resident well-being and encourage socialisation. Our in-house hairdresser is now visiting weekly and she is working hard to get around to see all of our residents following the lockdown. If you would like to discuss any of these concerns further please do not hesitate to contact the home directly and a member of the team will support you and your friend with this. Best Wishes, Ryan.

Mum was at Horse Fair for 18 months. Day to day care given was average but there were so many issues I wouldn't recommend the home. There were regularly problems with the repeat prescription system. Sometimes medications weren't re-ordered in time and ran out. One bank holiday weekend when she was out
of pain killers I problem-solved the issue myself as the Senior in charge didn't know what to do. One morning I visited she didn't get any breakfast and during another visit, she wasn't served tea. I constantly worried about what happened on the days I didn't visit. She had 5/6 hospital admissions whilst there, each time she was severely dehydrated. The most serious incident that left Mum severely shocked was a verbal/physical altercation with a carer. A planned move to a Nursing Home was brought forward, we moved her immediately to ensure her safety.

Just over a year ago, when we decided to send my mother to Horse Fair, the place struck us as clean and welcoming with a comprehensive care package in place. Yesterday, when she celebrated her 106th birthday, it became evident that all the staff had made an extraordinary effort to make the occasion
special for her, for the rest of the residents and for us as family. We couldn't praise them more highly for the organisation of the day. However, what struck us more than anything was seeing her with her carers now: there is a close and trusting relationship between them. I am sure this is the reason that mother has settled into Horse Fair so well and why she is very happy there.

I do not need two hundred words to describe the attitude of the staff from the manager, deputy manager, senior carers, welfare carers, hostess, cleaners, laundry, kitchen, reception and maintenance worker. They all have a positive attitude and show care and understanding to each resident. Many visitors
I have spoken to have commented on the cleanliness and attitude of all staff. Not anyone can add more to my comments only more praise and thanks.

Since my mother came to stay at Horse Fair Care Home she has been well looked after. The staff are amazing and so caring. In recent months in this pandemic my mother contracted COVID-19, she has since made a full recovery and I think this is partly due to the care she has received from your staff. The
meals are also of excellent quality and the care home is always lovely and clean. I would like to thank everyone at the care home for all of their excellent service from cleaners to management and all. Thank you.

My mum was in this care home from the end of July 2018 to mid-November 2019, at which point we were lucky enough find a new care home had been built in Stafford and within two weeks we were able to move Mum out of Horse Fair and into a better care home. There is too much for me to explain all that went
wrong at this care home or how she was treated but if your loved one means the world to you do not put them in this home.

My Mum went into Horse Fair Care Home Dec 2019. From the very first time I stepped through the door, I felt it was the right place for my mum to be. The member of staff on reception welcomed us and was very professional, we were then introduced to a member of staff and shown around the home. I was very
impressed with the cleanliness and friendliness of all the staff. The residents all looked so happy and at ease. All the staff here are wonderful and even I feel I've gained a new family and I can't thank them all enough for the care that they give my mum.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a distressing time for everyone and for me, with a family member in care, there have been intense feelings of guilt. Over the past three months, my Mum has had the paramedics called out three times and made two hospital visits when I could not support her. The staff at
Horse Fair have been truly fantastic throughout, keeping me appraised of her situation, adapting her living conditions accordingly and nurturing her back to better health. During this upsetting period of time the carers have not only performed their usual functions but taken on the role of friend and family whilst we are unable to do so. I am extremely grateful to everyone.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.717)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.717) out of 10 for Horse Fair Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.717 for Horse Fair Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (254 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 332 Ratings = 4.717
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Horse Fair Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
