Early morning I don't always want to go down for breakfast. So staff always bring me breakfast in bed, which is lovely. My morning routine is breakfast and then a steady walk to café bar. Coffee and biscuits and I read papers, nice relaxing me time. At 1pm I go for lunch with my group of friends we all sit together, my favourite time of the day. There is entertainment most afternoons which I really enjoy. But some afternoon I rest.

This home has a brilliant atmosphere. Happy people and staff. My wife is stimulated and her mental health has improved and she's eating more. My wife enjoys all the activities and she dances and sings along. She mostly loves the children's visits. Overall, very happy and content.

Clean and contemporary in style and decor. Mapplewell Manor is a breath of fresh air when compared to other care homes in Wakefield and Barnsley districts. Staff are well trained, have a caring and supportive attitude to all residents in my opinion. Highly recommended for consistent care delivery, quality of food and going above and beyond my expectations.

The home is like a hotel - excellent facilities, good sized rooms and a relaxed feel to all aspects and good, clean decor. Staff are friendly, but professional and take a genuine interest in the health and wellbeing of residents, as well as in keeping the resident's relatives informed and involved. The extra cost is outweighed by the high standard of the home and the care given.

Mum has been in Mapplewell Manor for almost a year now.

It is good to feel that you can trust the home to take good care of her while feeling that you are involved in care decisions. I hope I end up in a place like this if I ever need residential care.

Overall the care of our mother is great. The only issue I have is the lack of activities recently. One or two days is not keeping her stimulated. I have asked if it is possible to let the residents watch old musicals whilst sitting together in the lounge. They are sat in front of a large TV screen with a pink background smooth radio playing. Most of them don't know the songs. Would be better playing music from 40s, 50s or even daytime TV.

My mum's care is second to none but I'd expect that.
My mum's medication is professionally administered but I'd expect that.
My mum's hygiene is a priority as it should be.
My mum's safety is paramount to all concerned.

But what I didn't expect was my mum's personality, sense of humour and nature to be so specifically catered for to ensure she remains close to the woman she once was.

Teamwork is essential in a care home environment and Mapplewell Manor provides this in abundance. Individual care of dementia patients is second to none! Anything that can be done to improve and facilitate the resident is always done with care and compassion.
I always feel well informed regarding my mother's care.
Mapplewell Manor is of a very high standard with regards to facilities and living conditions.
It is immaculately clean at all times with cleaning staff always at hand.

The food is first class and the outside spaces are beautiful.

Mum has been in Maplewell Manor now for 18 months and her care and treatment are still of a very high standard. The staff are super efficient, caring, friendly and approachable. Mum is 100 years old in September and they are already planning celebrations. This home should pride itself in its consistent high standards of care cleanliness, nutrition and general concern for all its residents. You couldn't ask for better.

Thank you for your kind comments which I will pass onto the staff team. It is always great boast to myself and staff to hear such comments. I look forward to celebrating your Mum’s 100th birthday in September.

Great place, staff and entertainment. Only let down is the food, poor quality and portion sizes.

Thank you for your positive review regarding Mapplewell Manor. I am sorry that you find the food less than satisfactory. In early 2017 my very elderly parent became a resident after a heart attack and also sustaining a serious injury due to a fall at home. Before her accident at home she was anxious, depressed and not eating well, so had lost weight. Also, she had lost interest in life.
With an arm immobilised she was totally dependant on the staff for all her needs.
As of today - purely due to the exceptional care, attention and support she has received from the brilliant staff, she is fully recovered, mobile, independent, safe, eating very well, no longer anxious and depressed and is enjoying life at Maplewell Manor, taking part in the lovely activities.

She is a new lady. I cannot rate the staff highly enough, credit is also due to them for helping me adjust to my parents new life in care.

My father has been resident at Mapplewell Manor for nearly two years now. During December 2017 he was seriously ill and transferred to hospital three times. He now seems to be recovering well, which is no mean feat at the age of 95. I can only continue to praise the staff for their cheerfulness, dedication and the dignity with which they treat Dad. He is content and well looked after.

My mother has been a resident of Mapplewell Manor since 2013 and was one of the original residents when the home opened. She has received excellent care during this period and is very happy there. She has moved to an end of life plan but the service she receives has remained at the same high standard.

My brother and I are delighted with Mapplewell Manor. The staff are amazing, always pleasant, always caring and providing an exemplary standard of care. I visit care homes in my work as a GP and, without exception, I have not seen a better care home in my 25 years professional experience. Thank you to all the staff!

Review from Christine A (Daughter of Resident) published on 14 February 2018 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My parents became residents in Mapplewell Manor in February 2014 both suffering from dementia. They were looked after extremely well and I was always satisfied and confident that they were safe. My father's behaviour was sometimes challenging but all the staff were always patient and kind. My father sadly passed away after a short illness, unrelated to his dementia, in February 2017 and the care given to him during his final few weeks was excellent and we were extremely grateful that the staff were able to look after him at Mapplewell and hospital admission was avoided.

Since then, the staff have spent a lot of time successfully integrating my mother with the other residents as she and my father spent most of their time together in their own rooms. The staff have always been patient and kind to her. I always feel reassured that she is well looked after and safe and I know that they will contact me if my mother is not very well or if there are any worries or concerns. They have always called her GP promptly if they have had any concerns about her health.

I continued to be extremely happy with my mothers care at Mapplewell Manor.
