Someone living with our definition of "mild dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Memory problems such as misplacing items and not be able to recall recent events (however, in some forms of dementia a person's memory may be unchanged)
- Difficulties thinking through problems and planning, making decisions
- Language and communication issues such as finding it difficult to recall the appropriate word in a conversation or following a conversation
- Poor orientation, getting lost in areas previously familiar to them
- Difficulty judging distances (more falls than usual)
- Changes in their normal mood including anxiety and depression
- In certain types of dementia, personality and behaviour changes may be present alongside or instead of issues with memory or concentration.
Moderate Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "moderate dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Worsened memory problems. Not always recognising own family members and friends. Repeating the same questions over and over again
- Worsened language and communication issues, forgetting what they are saying mid-sentence. Not being able to understand what someone else is saying
- More frequent confusion, e.g. about the time of day or where they are, including their own home
- Apathy, depression and anxiety
- Believing things that aren't true (paranoia)
- Frequent hallucinations
- Lack of emotional control, quick to anger, fearfulness, sadness
- Loss of inhibition
- Difficulties sleeping or waking during the night and behaving as though it is daytime - loss of circadian rhythm.
Advanced Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "severe dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Severe memory problems. Not recognising family members and friends. Not being able to recall their own name
- Severe language and communication issues, not being able to understand what someone else is saying
- Severe confusion, e.g. about the time of day or where they are, including their own home
- Apathy, depression and anxiety
- Believing things that aren't true (paranoia)
- Frequent hallucinations
- Lack of emotional control, quick to anger, fearfulness, sadness
- Loss of inhibition
- Difficulties sleeping or waking during the night and behaving as though it is daytime - loss of circadian rhythm.
Verbally or physically aggressive behaviour
If your loved one displays this type of behaviour you may need a care home that has specially trained staff. Verbal/physical aggression is often defined:
- Consistent shouting and screaming
- Verbal abuse
- Physical abuse

Overall Experience
The care and kindness from all the staff at Austen Court Evesham was the best anyone could ask for during the time they looked after my mum.
It is a beautiful home and I know she felt at home and was treated with dignity until the end.

Overall Experience
Austen Court is like a five star hotel, beautiful large rooms, lots of communal areas including a conservatory and garden. The staff are kind, caring and very understanding of each individual residents needs. I am so pleased that we chose Austen Court for our Aunt, she is very happy, calm and settled. We come away from visiting her knowing that she is in safe hands.
I would highly recommend Austen Court Care home.

Overall Experience
I just wanted to say how pleased we are with the high standard of care you all show to my Grandad. Since he has been with you he has always been treated with the utmost care and respect and have no worries about his safety or wellbeing! You and your staff do so much to make the residents happy and entertained. Thank you for the entertainment and for all the staff for making us feel welcome. Such a lovely family run care home. Well done!

Overall Experience
Love what they do for all the residents, amazing caring staff and lovely building and rooms. The food is great and it's just a really nice place to be. My sister and I are so glad we got our dad into Austen Court he is a lucky man.

Overall Experience
Austen Court is a beautiful nursing home with care given to a very high standard. Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff. However, we decided to move my mother as although she has dementia it is early onset and I felt that it did not suit her needs. She also really wanted somewhere with a garden and suitable residents for a proper conversation.

Overall Experience
My wife and I were very happy with my mother in law’s recent respite stay at the home. She has been in other homes before and never really been happy. However she loved Austen Court and has said she will happily return at Easter. She loved the food, enjoyed the activities and made some new friends. We can now go on holiday without worrying and I would like to thank all the staff. The home looks great and it is a welcome arrival to Evesham.

Overall Experience
A beautifully appointed luxury newly built care home, staffed by friendly, caring carers, nurses and housekeeping staff. All my aunt's needs were met and she will happily return for more respite visits. The atmosphere and running will greatly improve when the home is fully occupied and staffed.

Overall Experience
Austen Court Care Home is a fantastic care home where Dad has settled in extremely well and felt incredibly settled and at home. All staff are very caring and work very hard.
The environment is lovely and the main room encourages a very social atmosphere.
Only negative is a decline in activities going on on a day to day business and more exacerbated by the activity coordinator being off.

Following a couple of issues on a respite visit in August, we visited the home prior to October's visit. We discussed the issues and were reassured that staff would ensure they would be addressed on this visit.
Austen Court is a beautiful home, the staff are friendly and approachable at all times and their care is excellent.
The individual's needs are taken into account which as a respite with Dementia is very important.
The lounge is a friendly area and the staff are patient with all the residents.
Visitors are made welcome at any time.

Overall Experience
A new home - on the first day of viewing the home, one sensed a very good atmosphere and on moving in, my parent has felt very much at ease, comfortable and safe.
The staff are extremely caring and despite all their patience still come up with a smile and nothing is too much for them.
I cannot recommend highly enough, they keep me informed as to what is going on, a regular basis which is very reassuring.
