Gainsborough Hall Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum has been at Gainsborough since 2023.
I can honestly say, without hesitation that she is in the right place for her needs and has been since day one.
What really stands out is the feeling of care each member of staff has for the residents - a real personal touch for each individual being looked
after.
The management are always available to answer questions, discuss care plans/needs etc and do so in an honest and open approach - they are a credit to the care home.
Nurses always available to talk and ensure a genuine care for loved ones is a priority.
The activities team are always looking to entertain and engage the residents. All of them are lovely and try so hard to make sure residents enjoy activities to the best of their ability.
By far the best care home we (unfortunately) have had to use for Mum, thank you.

Cannock Specialist Care Centre

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I visit my husband who is a resident in Cannock Specialist Care Centre every week, and I always find him comfortable, clean, shaved, and dressed. The staff are extremely pleasant, caring, and cannot do enough for my husband. The Managers, Jo and Becky are ALWAYS available to me if I ever need to speak
with them. My husband's room is spotlessly clean, his wardrobe tidy. The whole unit is spotless, and the carers look after residents in the lounge, where they relax watching TV. I sometimes sit in the lounge, and listen to carers chatting to residents with such compassion, we have to remember that a lot of the residents have dementia, and therefore are confused, some tearful, it's heartwarming to hear how the carers talk to these beautiful people, and make them feel safe. Lots of people do not understand the complexity of caring for Altzeimers/Dementia suffers, and I honestly believe that at Cannock Specialist Care Centre they have managed to train the best staff to look after residents.

Dad was a resident here for 2 years until the end of his life with advanced/complex dementia in April 26.
The care received from all staff regardless of their role was outstanding.
The whole team have been supportive and understanding throughout.
We cannot fault the end of life care and empathy shown
to the family at this difficult time.
The knowledge of end of life care by staff was outstanding and meant that Dad had a very peaceful death with family around him.
Thank you to all who were involved with him during his time at Cannock.

A very poor experience. My Uncle was taken into the Care Home at the beginning of December 2025. In the whole time he spent in the Care Centre, as his next of Kin, I never once received an update on his situation and was never allowed to speak to him, although I explained every time I rang that I live
200 miles away from Cannock and was unable to visit until the beginning of January 2026. I asked on each occasion to speak to his assessor but I was never contacted at all until 12th January 2026, when I was asked to attend a meeting at the Centre on 14th. On that day my Uncle immediately asked me when he would be able to go home. Every item of his own clothing and underwear had gone missing. He was wearing a nappy. He said that there were people in and out of his room all the time who took his personal things and the remote for his TV. The process to have him discharged was a nightmare because as soon as they found he did not want to stay they pressured us to get him out of the Centre.

My father passed recently, he lived in the home for around 9 months and we can honestly say they were amazing, he had dimentia and was difficult because if it, he was so well looked after, clean, well fed, they have activites every day that he enjoyed joining in with, the bar/lobby was always clean
and comfotable with soft music and home made cakes. The staff are amazing, caring, helpful, patient, everyghing you could hope for. I would give 10 stars as we know at the end he was comfortable and so well looked after. Thankyou Gainsborough for looking after my dad so well..

We cannot speak highly enough of the care my father has received at this care home. The staff are compassionate, adaptive, and consistently responsive to his individual needs, always going above and beyond to ensure his comfort, dignity, and wellbeing.
The environment itself is excellent. The communal
areas are thoughtfully designed and provide a calm, welcoming space where we can take my father for a coffee, giving him a sense of being in a different environment. His bedroom is spacious, warm, and homely.
The staff are highly professional and always treat our family with dignity, kindness, and respect, keeping us informed and involved. Having visited and experienced other care homes in the past, we can honestly say we have never felt as confident or reassured leaving a loved one in care as we do here. This care home truly provides a safe, nurturing, and exceptional standard of care, and we are extremely grateful to all of the staff for all that they do.

Highest recommendation: my Mum was taken into Shelbourne for assessment after being admitted into hospital with dementia. She has now been with them for 7 months and the care received, and improvement in her comfort and condition, can only be described as outstanding.

The staff show care and consideration

in all things they do, from the medical side of managing some of my Mum's more complex needs, to the meticulous agenda of activities and entertainment, in which Mum participates in with relish! Whilst the day-to-day carers have consistently demonstrated compassion, patience and an uplifting air of positivity, the office staff (lead by Sophie) have been a valued source of guidance and advice in helping me navigate the administrative side of her condition ...even offering tea and an understanding ear when I have felt a bit overwhelmed. My Dad has (mild) dementia too and they have looked after him brilliantly when visiting, even providing him with hot meals logistical support.

Warm welcome as usual from staff at Reception & ditto on the ward where staff busy, friendly & joking with residents whilst serving a delicious breakfast. And I was a lucky recipient too.
The resident whom I was visiting was a bit dozy after a long (& good) nights sleep, but content with life & looking
forward to shaving after breakfast.
I left him cheerful in good spirits & good hands

My father was in this home from October 2024 to March 2025 when he passed away. My father went in with a lot of problems, including mobility and swallowing issues. A carer tried to feed my father toast, when he could have choked as he was on a puréed food diet, we found him on Christmas Day in urine
soaked pyjamas while the staff were dancing around in the canteen. He also had extremely bad bruising to both hands. We then contacted CHC and DOLS to put in place safeguarding for my father. My father also managed to pull out a catheter while he had one to one care, and the home had to call an ambulance to put the catheter back in. He had several falls while at the home which resulted in cuts to his head and hands. After many meetings my father was moved to another floor. He continued to have falls while being cared for at this home. I had discussions with the management over the care my father received until he passed away. Do not put your loved ones in this home.

Austen Court Care Home

Our Dad was at Austen Court for the last 5 months. Although his condition worsened continually, the staff would always be there to attend to him. He had a smart room that was modern and spacious, and the staff would regularly visit him while he was in there. When he spent time in the lounge, he was
always being looked after with snacks and drinks - the carers would sit and keep him company. Whenever we visited him, we were made very welcome and fed and watered ourselves. Austen Court was regularly in contact, and would always let us know about developments and any change in Dad's condition. It was a continual comfort to know that he was being cared for there. Our great thanks go to everyone at Austen Court.

My Dad had a very negative experience when he was a resident at Connaught House for just over 2 weeks. He was moved to 3 different rooms during this time. He looked unkempt on most days. I felt the care staff were not interested in getting to know Dad and what would help make him feel at ease & reduce
his anxieties. It felt like a heavy handed approach was taken, which made Dad very agitated. I suggested a more hands off approach but felt I wasn't listened to.
Dad's stay ended when he fell and broke his hip.
I would not recommend this home to anyone, especially if they have moderate dementia, even if they have some challenging behaviours.
I felt the leadership, management & culture were extremely poor. The appalling response I received to my CQC complaint only confirmed this.

Today may 11th we had a birthday party for my brother's 70th. What a fantastic day organised by the head of activities. She made everyone welcome and worked tirelessly to serve food, take photos and in general really made the day a great one. What an asset this young lady is to RHG Connaught house nobody
else would have come close.

In September 2024, the Manager and Clinical lead at Gainsborough, rescued my Father from an awful care home in Coventry that he was discharged to for the purposes of his heath care assessment. My Dad had some challenging behaviors due to his post stroke cognitive decline. The staff at Gainsborough were
so kind and caring and treated my Dad with the upmost respect and dignity and his mental and physical welfare very quickly improved. His room and surroundings were very comfortable and the staff always tried to encourage my Dad to take part in the various activities available. Unfortunately my Dad passed away in January 2025 in hospital after an operation he didnt recover from, but I will be forever grateful to all of the staff for making sure his last few months were spent in such comfort and that he was cared for with such kindness and compassion.

Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and gave support to any requests that were made.

My mother-in-law was a resident at the care home. She was there for almost 3 years. She passed away 7 months ago. When she was admitted to the home, she was only given 2-3 months to live. If it hadn't been for all the staff there, she would not have lived. A big thank you to you all. Six staff members
in particular made her life so very happy, and she loved you all very much. Plus, there are so many more people from the cleaners, laundry, kitchen staff, and activities staff to give a big thank you from all of the family.

Mom came here from hospital for assessment in December 2023 and became a permanent resident in June last year. Mom's dementia is very advanced and her needs are complex she has a 1:1 in place to safe guard her and others. I can't thank the team at Cannock Specialist Care Centre enough for the love,
care and support they give mom on a daily basis. This is the 3rd care home mom has been in and she really has struck gold , from management, to nurses, carers, activity coordinators, housekeeping, laundry, reception and maintenance each and everyone of them treat mom like one of the family. The love and care mom gets is outstanding even when she is having a difficult day and is not easy to manage. The unit mom is on, has an amazing manager that mom clearly loves which is testament to the care and compassion she shows to mom. The facilities are excellent, the activities are amazing and despite mom being unable to join in very much anymore she is always encouraged. An outstanding care home .
