My father was in this home from October 2024 to March 2025 when he passed away. My father went in with a lot of problems, including mobility and swallowing issues. A carer tried to feed my father toast, when he could have choked as he was on a puréed food diet, we found him on Christmas Day in urine
soaked pyjamas while the staff were dancing around in the canteen. He also had extremely bad bruising to both hands. We then contacted CHC and DOLS to put in place safeguarding for my father. My father also managed to pull out a catheter while he had one to one care, and the home had to call an ambulance to put the catheter back in. He had several falls while at the home which resulted in cuts to his head and hands. After many meetings my father was moved to another floor. He continued to have falls while being cared for at this home. I had discussions with the management over the care my father received until he passed away. Do not put your loved ones in this home.

My Dad had a very negative experience when he was a resident at Connaught House for just over 2 weeks. He was moved to 3 different rooms during this time. He looked unkempt on most days. I felt the care staff were not interested in getting to know Dad and what would help make him feel at ease & reduce
his anxieties. It felt like a heavy handed approach was taken, which made Dad very agitated. I suggested a more hands off approach but felt I wasn't listened to.
Dad's stay ended when he fell and broke his hip.
I would not recommend this home to anyone, especially if they have moderate dementia, even if they have some challenging behaviours.
I felt the leadership, management & culture were extremely poor. The appalling response I received to my CQC complaint only confirmed this.

Today may 11th we had a birthday party for my brother's 70th. What a fantastic day organised by the head of activities. She made everyone welcome and worked tirelessly to serve food, take photos and in general really made the day a great one. What an asset this young lady is to RHG Connaught house nobody
else would have come close.

Felt compelled to write an update on my previous review. I really cannot fault the care my sister has received over the past 6 months, every single member of staff are so kind and caring towards her and have understood, rapidly, her level of care needs. My sister always has a smile for anyone who addresses
her, which is a huge tell tale sign. I am at Connaught-Cranmore level a lot and can see how respectfully the residents are treated. Activities were always a big thing for me when it came to my sister's care and I can honestly say the activities team really do go above and beyond to get residence involved. In my sister's case, karaoke and movement activities being a favourite. I would love to mention each and every staff member but the list would go on and on. You all know who you are and I can't express how much you are all appreciated. I also have to mention the laundry team.

Asprey Court Care Home

from Tricia D (Wife of Resident) published on 30 July 2024

My husband's first time in respite care and what an experience he had. The home was given a full profile of how he was, his behaviours etc. I called the home to ask how he was doing to be told he was refusing his medications, refusing to eat and refusing personal care. He keeps going into other client's
rooms even though we have told him not to and we've even put his name on his room door.
My husband who has dementia needs coaxing to do things like personal care, I've never had problems with his eating, he's a roamer and he has to be coaxed to take his medication at times. In new settings he can be difficult and aggressive l admit never denied it. So l am disappointed in this care home with a behavioural unit that couldn't cater for his needs at a time when he was in a strange environment and not able to understand what was happening to him and unable to read his name on his room door. l say shame on you for not providing him with the care, patience, and understanding he deserves.

Shocking! On a number of occasions, my grandad has been found in such a sorry state, wet through, freezing cold, not been dressed. All of these are basic needs and have not been met. His personal care has not been seen to and neither has his emotional care. Expressed concerns time and time again to
be met with “I’m sorry... we have no excuse.” Shocking, avoid at all costs for your loved ones.

Since moving to Castlehill care home my sister has been settled and generally seems happier. I am confident that she is well looked after; she has a good rapport with the staff (who all seem friendly and caring), she has gained weight and generally looks healthier.
The home itself is extremely well-appointed
with great care and attention to detail in all areas. Castlehill is a welcoming place to visit and sitting in the downstairs area being able to have coffee/ drinks with the resident gives a sense of ‘doing normal things ‘ that you would have done previously.
There are regular musical events which family or friends are invited to attend which seem to be enjoyed by all.
Overall my experience of Castlehill has been wholly positive.

I’m a regular visitor to Castle Hill, with a close friend being a resident, I felt immediately comfortable from the minute I walked into the reception area. My friend and I were treated with kindness, and the utmost care has been given to them having been transferring from another care home, since moving
here there has been a vast improvement to their health, she’s more content, she now eats and drinks with no issues, gaining weight which was necessary. Regular meetings and updates are given, any questions asked are answered promptly, visitors to the residence are treated with respect, I’m always offered refreshments. There is always plenty of staff who are happy to help, activities are laid on to keep the residents occupied if they wish to take part.
I have to say I was worried about moving her here at first but I definitely feel it’s the best move made and would recommend this home with a happy heart.

Castlehill stepped in at a time when Mum's care home was no longer able to look after her. The care staff are so attentive and kind, Mum improved dramatically within a week of her moving in. The wellbeing staff are constantly finding things for the residents to do and involve the families. The front
of house staff are as involved with the residents as the rest of the teams. The housekeeping teams are keeping the home clean. Negatively, it can prove a challenge to speak to managers. The décor is looking dated in places and could do with a spruce, particularly with the new build opposite. Overall I would say Castlehill is a good provider.

My sister has dementia, and without the wonderful staff at Asprey, we, as a family, could not cope with the situation. It’s the toughest challenge we have had to cope with as a family, and when it gets hard, there is always a member of staff to help us cope. Special thanks to all the staff and the manager,
who we can always chat with to find solutions for any issues we might have. Just want to say thanks a million to all the staff who work there; we, as a family, appreciate you.

My father came to Asprey Court for temporary respite after being very poorly in hospital. Very sadly he passed away after being there for only two weeks. In those two weeks, I cannot fault the care he received, all the staff were very attentive, kind and caring, nothing was too much trouble. The manager
is so supporting, kind and caring, again nothing is too much trouble, and any concerns are quickly alleviated or sorted out. I would definitely recommend Asprey Court.

My aunt loves the food and has put weight on since being a resident. The carers are generally very kind and patient, and encourage her to join in with the activities. The activity staff are constantly finding new ways to decorate the home and stimulate residents. Housekeeping are incredible, and the
rooms are always clean. The administrative staff are welcoming and helpful. The accommodation is superb; individual rooms are well-equipped, roomy and comfortable. It always makes me smile that the staff not only know all the residents' names but greet me by name too. Certainly hope this home is available when I need full-time care - what better recommendation than that.

I had a relative living at Asprey Court and cannot praise it enough. The staff would always make you feel welcome and go that extra mile for the residents; they became more like family. The accommodation was more like a hotel. The home was always very clean. The menu the home served was outstanding.
I can't thank the staff or management enough for the exceptional care given. I would highly recommend this care home.

Whilst being a resident at Asprey Court my family member was not looked the way he deserved to be. We witnessed him being shouted at by one of the senior care staff which left him traumatised and terrified. On another occasion we arrived to find him in the lounge slumped in a chair. He was slipping
off the chair and not one of the care staff was attempting to help him. The staff were congregated together chatting. On numerous occasions whilst sitting in our relative's room other residents would walk in and out of the room, the staff did not attempt to stop this. I would not recommend this home.

Appalling... this is the kindest thing I can say. My father had been in a D to A bed at Castle Hill for several weeks, he has today been moved to his forever home, and within 2 hours of arrival, he had been showered, shaved and had his hair cut. When he left Castle Hill he looked like a tramp, despite
the social worker explicitly asking for his hair to be cut, wearing clothes that did not belong to him, carrying a bag with a few scraps of clothing in, again not all his own, not the two heaving bags of belongings he arrived with at Castle Hill. Communication with Management is non-existent and calls are never returned. The floors throughout the home are sticky and dirty. I cannot fault the kindness of the workforce, they are all super friendly and pleasant and were lovely to my dad, however, I cannot imagine they feel proud to work at Castle Hill, the management really need to step up and allow the residents some dignity and show them some respect. I will be taking my concerns further.

My mom has been in the care of Asprey Court for three years now.
The staff have all been amazing there, catering to my mom's needs and ours as a family. Mom has Alzheimer’s and has very challenging behaviour, I can’t fault the care they have given her or us as a family. Special thank you to two staff
members in particular for being so helpful and always being there for us and Mom.

We have been so unhappy that we moved my dad today. On leaving Castlehill, his wallet with money, bus pass and photo of my dad with my late mum is missing. He has no underwear, socks and over half his clothes are missing (which were labelled). They had bagged up shabbily his other clothes and some were
labelled with other people’s names. We are absolutely disgusted at the unclean toilet (won’t go into details) not just his room but all the floors were disgusting. The cleaning firm are clearly not doing their job. The manager is an absolute waste of space for communication to others and does not care one bit. Speaking to some staff they all have issues with her as well. It’s all about money and absolutely nothing about the care for the residents. If you’re thinking of this place for your loved, don’t bother. They should be ashamed and will be reported. I could list so much more that’s wrong with this place. Not fit for purpose is what I am saying. The admin are shocking!

My wife came to stay here from home, and since being at Castlehill, I feel she has been looked after very well by all staff, and she certainly enjoys the lovely food. The manager is approachable and very helpful; she guided us through a very simple process of moving my wife here. I feel safe in knowing
my wife is looked after and is safe and secure.
