It is now some 4 months since the passing of my father-in-law. I thought now might be an appropriate time to offer a word of warning to those who might be thinking of moving their relative to the Care Floor.
My advice, based on our own experience, is to be very careful. Some aspects are very good,
others, and in our experience this includes important elements of care ranging from handling, through hydration to hygiene, are poor. It may help you to know that both CQC and the local authority have done inspections recently based on concerns and complaints raised. Checkout their reports, they are more than fair, if not a little generous, in their ratings. Want to know more, ask to be put in contact with the friends and families group for home. Finally, I would be grateful if this review is not met with the usual BUPA response of 'please get in contact etc.'. I have made our views very plain over and very little has improved, to respond now would frankly be disrespectful.

Over all very good experience. Some lack of comminication between departments particularly with the kitchen,/ restaurant.
Quality of food and choice variable particularly in the evening

Dad was a resident at Richmond Village Witney for about two years. Firstly in one of the assisted living suites and then for the last months of his life on the nursing home floor. Whilst it had taken some persuading for him to move from his home, once he got there he loved it. The staff were great
- nothing was too much bother. There were activities which he could participate in or not and there were always other residents around who he could sit and chat to. The facilities were very high quality and there was always plenty of good food. As it became clear that he needed more care it made things so much easier that he could just move to a different part of the Village. He could continue with some of the activities that he loved and also had care from people who knew and looked out for him. From my perspective the communications with the staff at RV were excellent. They saw him everyday and were able to help me to make the best choices for him.
Reply from Martin Crick, Village Manager at Richmond Villages Witney

It was an absolute pleasure to have Dad with us at Richmond Village Witney, from his days in assisted living through to looking after him on the care floor. He is missed by residents and staff alike. The comfort for us is that the team supported him in living his best possible life, seeing his positivity, cheerfulness and constant smile. A true Gent.

Before moving mum into care, I thoroughly investigated local alternatives before deciding on here. The place is lovely and the grounds team are passionate about their work. The building (and across the retirement village) has the ambience of a good hotel. Décor and furnishings are all to a high standard.
The staff are great.
Management, maintenance, the staff in the laundry, restaurant, reception, activities team.and those that keep everything clean and tidy, they all convey the professionalism you would expect from company under the healthcare provider umbrella. The nursing/care staff are real professionals and convey genuine patience and kindness. You can't be trained to do that. These are qualities people start to nurture in their childhood. It is something you just have or don't have. The leadership team can be very proud of all their staff. Beyond the lovely building and grounds, the nice décor, the clean and tidy environment, it is the people here that make the difference.

Firstly, I Would like to thank you for taking time in completing the review. We are so pleased you chose our home to look after mum. Once again, we greatly appreciate your kind feedback which will be shared with the whole team. Best Wishes

Richmond Letcombe Regis is a very good care home, gives one the impression of a four star hotel well decorated and welcoming. Excellent special event catering etc for my wife also Christmas fare. Only complaints are due to the delay with telephone response and admin regarding hearing aid, no result
after 6 months am chasing this up.

I have been to other care homes and Richmond Village Witney is very good. When I came to look around with 2 friends we were greeted and made to feel welcome. Even my friend said she could see me being happy here. After our show round we stayed for lunch and the outside grounds are fantastic. I came
for 3 weeks respite in January to try it out and everyone is so helpful and caring and cheerful. Having had such a great stay I decided to move to Richmond care home permanently and moved in at beginning of April to a beautiful room that I am over the moon with. There are facilities for the hydro pool and sauna which are great and lots of activities to get involved in plus trips out and supper clubs and entertainment. All the staff from the housekeepers, carers and up to the management are very helpful and you can speak to the manger at anytime if you wish to - and I was very honoured to be invited onto the mangers table at the monthly supper club. Also I am making lots of new friends.

After a period of 8 years living independently at Richmond, Mum was unexpectedly moved on to Willow floor for palliative care in December 2024.

The staff were caring, helpful and sympathetic. They took an interest in her previous life and endeavoured to keep her comfortable during her last few weeks.

They took time to find foods and textures which she could manage to consume. Our family were happy with the care Mum received and also the support for her relatives.
Thank you.

My sister came to Letcombe Regis after she decided that she could no longer cope in her London flat. My husband and I visited before a final decision was made and we were very impressed by the Home, the surroundings and particularly the staff we met. So, in September 2022 we moved her and we have never
regretted that decision.
The care she has received has been exemplary, the staff unfailingly kind and, whilst my sister cannot really appreciate them, the surroundings beautiful.

My aunt first moved into Richmond Villages in September 2024. She was in hospital when she had a fall and damaged her face and needed to go to a care home for her safety. A Richmond Village employee visited her hospital and she moved to the home when she was discharged. She has been met with kndness
and patience. She has adjusted to being in the home with the help of staff. She is encouraged to join in all activities and performances which she enjoys.

After 3 years in the care floor the only word I can use to describe the care received is poor! There are some excellent carers, although they appear to be given very little support and guidance! We have had lots of lost property - new clothing brought in and lost! New clothes ripped then stuffed in
the back of drawers. Communication is a very big problem, emails ignored, concerns from family not addressed! Or when chasing up issues we then discover yet another member of staff has left - over the 3 years there has been several changes of head of care leading to lack of continuity. RVW - rather than using a 'use it or lose it' approach, are much happier using 'let's ensure they lose it as quickly as possible' such as using a hoist rather than encouraging residents to walk. My family member was told to use his pad when asked to go to the toilet! There is a certain lack of independence and lack of dignity. Richmond Villages and BUPA all seem to be happy with this lack of care!

I write this review from my position as an 'Independent Unit' resident, whose husband has been transferred from our apartment to the care home. The care and support he is experiencing there is excellent. Even though his Parkinson's condition is overwhelming.
I cannot praise the staff enough for their
consistent patience and overall care. Richmond Villages, Letcombe Regis has timed out to be the very best option for us in our declining years, allowing residents to remain in their homes whilst having care facilities convenient on-site. I have marked some as satisfactory, but also mean it to be 'good', as my husband's condition can only allow him to experience everything to a certain level.

My mother arrived at Richmond Villages, Letcombe Regis, in November. It was a very stressful time but she settled in quickly, and it was not long before I felt a weight had lifted. The admin staff have held my hand throughout. Personalised care plan, and on hand up-to-date information for the carers
offers reassurance. Lovely staff organise activities in the afternoons. The level of care, dedication, empathy, and warmth provided by the carers is truly above expectation (my mother moved from another care home to be closer to me, she is 98).
My mother is safe and happy. Thank you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. Mum truly is a pleasure to be around, I am glad she settled so easily into RV Letcombe Regis, new environments can be unsettling, but Mum really is part of our family now. I personally have also loved getting to know you and the family dogs. You have become a familiar face for all the staff and I know how much the other residents enjoy your visits too.

The grounds, buildings, and facilities here are beautiful, but more importantly, the quality of care my poor old mother is receiving is fabulous. She has very advanced dementia and needs a high level of support 24/7. It is a great comfort to us to know that she is getting this and we are beyond grateful
to the gentle and patient care staff that work so hard looking after her.

Mum was the 4th resident to arrive at Richmond Witney. She moved into an independent living flat and immediately settled, making new friends and becoming an ambassador to champion the BUPA care pathway the villages represent. In the last 9 years, she has followed that pathway after 8 years of independent
living to a year in assisted living and now on to the care floor. I have experienced nothing but kindness and compassion for her since her mental health began to decline. All departments have really cared about her, the girls in hospitality missed her when she could not make it down for meals, the housekeeping team were caring and kind to her, especially two in particular and the dom care team were wonderful at popping in to check on her if they were passing, spending time with her and collecting her meals for her, with special thanks to three girls in particular not to mention the lovely girls on reception and the senior team. You have all helped in her journey, thank you.

My Mother moved into Sycamore in the summer of this year. Over the past 5 months what has struck me has been the warmth and care with which the team works with the residents. It is demanding work for them and yet so often they turn up with a smile.
There have been a few times when I have needed to
give feedback on the service. It has always been well received by the care manager and either changes made or the rationale explained.

This review pertains to Sycamore Unit on the Care Floor at Richmond Village Letcombe Regis and does not offer any opinion on other aspects of care at the same facility such as Assisted Living. I will post a separate review for that area of care at a later date.
I would like to give my profound thanks
to all staff on Sycamore for the outstanding level of exceptional care they recently gave my father in about the last six weeks of his life. We could not have asked for better. Without exception, all the staff were very loving and did everything they could to make my father feel comfortable and deeply cared for. They were also very supportive of the family at a difficult time, were always available to us, and sent frequent updates. Everything was handled very sensitively and with great attention to detail. This gave my father and his family total peace of mind. I could not recommend the Sycamore Unit more highly. A huge thank you to the head of care and all her staff for outstanding work.

I found my stay here very rewarding.
All the staff were individually kind and caring.
I particularly liked that as my door was open, visitors and staff knocked gently before coming into my room.
My one complaint is that there was no grab handle in the shower to hold onto.
Because of this, I needed
a carer to support me whilst showering.
Surprised there was no telephone in the room until it was requested. The mobile signal is genuinely very responsive.
I would definitely ask to come again if necessary.

This is a review of Maple at Richmond Village Letcombe Regis. I would like to say a big thank you to the care home manager and her team on Maple. My Nanna moved to Maple from her flat in the main area of the village centre after she became very unwell. As soon as Nanna arrived she was treated with such
care and respect and this has continued over the last month. The managers, nurses, carers, and maintenance teams know her and us. They treat Nanna warmly- chatting and laughing with her, taking care of and adapting to her changing needs, and enabling her to join in with the various activities, meals, etc that take place. There is a warm, calm, responsive, and supportive atmosphere in Maple. I am very grateful for the communication about my Nanna's care and well-being and feel confident that she is in the right place. Not only has the team looked after my Nanna but also my family in what has been a stressful few weeks.
