Green Acres

from Paul G (Nephew of Resident) published on 6 August 2025

Neither myself or my auntie were sure about a transition from living at home with regular carers to a care home but how wrong were we! GreenAcres came highly recommended by one of our carers & we haven't looked back. My Auntie loves it. The food is amazing, healthy & varied - far better than micro meals
(our home carers would not cook a proper meal & would only heat up meals). All the staff are personable & really care. They us keep informed of any activities & services (hairdresser & chiropodist visits). All rooms are spotless. Honestly I can't find any fault.

My elderly relative was taken to this establishment in 2022...and would absolutely NOT recommend this 'care home'. It is very clean which gives a good first impression and some of the care staff are lovely. However as it is not allowed to go into detail I will just highlight the ratings I have submitted..
and hope the reader takes note of those ratings. Also if your elderly relative has a Dementia... this 'care home' place the elderly person on a unit that caters for their same sex and from the ages of 18 years upwards which I have found is not an appropriate setting for an aged person with Dementia as opposed to an EMI Elderly Care Nursing Home. I would suggest anybody looking for a placement for their elderly family member suffering from a Dementia research age appropriate nursing homes who specialise in acute dementia care.

After a long stay in hospital, my father-in-law was found a place at Cwm Gwendraeth in the Twyi unit. Unfortunately his health took a turn for the worse and the care shown by all the staff, not just on the unit but the whole home, was above and beyond what could be expected. My mother-in-law chose to
stay at the bedside when end of life care was necessary and she was looked after by everyone better than a five star hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. My husband, daughter and myself were kept informed on what was happening and we couldn't fault the care we all received. The home is kept immaculately clean and there was always a friendly member of staff on hand with tea and sympathy whenever we needed them. I really can't thank all the staff enough for making a horrible situation so much more bearable and would recommend them all for an award. In the space of a week I felt we got to know several of the staff and they all have hearts of gold. Thank you all from the resident's family.

On my first ever arrival at the Care Home, I thought WOW! What a peaceful Setting and Lovely designed Building. I was visiting my dad who transferred here only 3 days ago from Hospital. Before entering I had a look around outside and it was really well presented and clean etc. I spoke to someone on
the phone who then met me at the door as Reception was closed (Sunday). I was led to my dad's room which was quite large and spotlessly clean. A Carer showed me to the lovely Garden where we sat with my dad during our visit before returning to his room for his Tea and we then left. Although it's only been 3 days, I am very happy with the friendly and helpful staff and the cleanliness etc on our first Visit.

For anybody that has considered moving to Heathcotes, Grovenor House in Moulton Village don't do it and save yourself a lot of stress, that goes on every day in this place. I have been unfairly stuck living here for over 2 years and am still waiting to get out of here. I've had 2 mental breakdowns in
between that time all because the management decided to move some idiot next door that shouldn't even be living there because they are seriously below what people call supported living. All they do next door is scream loudly, cry and bang loudly on walls and doors. I have to sleep on the sofa in the lounge because of it and the bedroom is too mentally distressing to be in. Meanwhile, the manager and staff know about this and what it's doing to me but still do nothing to bother to help. It's disgusting that I have to live next door to this while the useless staff and manager won't do anything about it. This place is inhumane and degrading. Save your mental health and don't choose here.

5 stars to the staff at Heathfield Lodge. My sister lived at Heathfield Lodge for a few years before losing her life 2 weeks ago. The staff here are absolutely amazing and it is them that make the home what it is. My sister was so well cared for, along with her cat Fluke. The staff were always so positive,
compassionate always had time for a chat and always there at the end of the phone. I really cannot thank you all enough, and I know how hard the job is, having been a Care Assistant myself for 15 years, you are all so very much appreciated and please keep up the great work.

Our uncle was in the care of Pen-y-Bont Court for six years, as a family, we cannot express how grateful we are to the manager and her team for the wonderful care provided to our Uncle during that time. The home, itself, is bright and modern, and we were always made to feel welcome when visiting. The
home is decorated to a high, modern standard and is always impeccably clean. As for the care staff, what a wonderful bunch, nothing was too much trouble, and we will be eternally grateful for the level of care and compassion that was shown towards our Uncle.

St Albans Nursing Home

from Brian (Son of Resident) published on 18 April 2018
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I have been more than happy with the level of care and support my mother receives on a daily basis from the team at St Albans and I believe the markings below are well deserved. The Care Inspectorate reports are good, the engagement of the team with the family is always timely, friendly and informative.
In short, the decision to accept a place at St Albans Nursing Home has proved over and again to have been the best decision I could have made for my mother's well-being, safety, comfort and dignity while being supported with progressive dementia.

Review of

Humberston

from Kim G (Sister-in-law of Resident) published on 11 April 2017
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My sister in law was welcomed into The Garden House around 2 weeks ago having moved from a Sheffield care home which was dire. My husband, her brother and I tried for many months to get her into a care home in this area, the place she wanted to be where she was born, she is not an easy person to care
for and the staff certainly have their hands full. Taking this into account they are amazing, so friendly and caring. The home itself is spotless, warm and welcoming, yes it could do with an update in some areas but taking into account the financial constraints they have (I should know, my background and current expertise is health and social care). It's a lovely homely home. There are many other purpose built, singing and dancing with their fancy decor care homes but they lose the purpose of what they are actually there to do, something this care home has in abundance. If you are looking for a real care home with an ethic of real person-centred care, this one is well worth a visit.

Reply from Jill Cocking, Operations Manager at Humberston

Thank you so much for your review, I know all the staff will be delighted. I will ensure this is passed onto them they all work very hard, I have spoken to your sister-in-law on my last 2 visits to the home. I arranged the transport from her former home to The Garden House.
Again thank you for taking the time to review our home.

The new dementia unit in The Garden House is very welcoming, well planned out, with a lovely street the residents can walk down, it's lovely. There are areas for the residents to explore, a sensory room, they can sit and watch a film in the cinema room. the residents are very happy and well cared for
with lots of love.

Thank so much for your feedback, I know the staff have worked so hard in the new unit, and care so much for our residents. I will pass this feedback onto the staff and the Manager.

Cwm Gwendraeth

from Yvonne T (Sister of Resident) published on 26 January 2017

Gwalia Mynydd Mawr is such a lovely, happy place. As a family, we cannot sufficiently express our gratitude for the care provided to our brother in the 18 months he lived there. Our brother was in the Twyi residential unit. The very nice modern unit is maintained on a daily basis to a very good standard.
The relaxed and friendly environment is created by the extraordinarily kind and friendly team. Each unit known as 'clusters' cater to just 13 residents this maintains the small 'homely' feeling. The small kitchen within the unit is available at all times for the residents and/or their visitors to use. Unlucky for the person who puts the kettle on and announces this fact. So often got 'caught ' into making cuppas for all!

As a family, we have happy memories of the time our brother lived within this lovely cluster. Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff in Twyi residential unit. Thank you all.

Care is absolutely fantastic. Staff are really so good. Some work has been done in the home decoration and some more is happening which is so nice.
My husband says "when I am old enough I will come here to stay".
