Review of

Hawthorne House

from A T (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 February 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
Our mother has been in Hawthorne House for just under 2 years. There has been several changes in management structure which is not always good.

Our contact with management has been largely driven through complaints, otherwise there is minimal communication with families in general. The permanent

staff are kind and accommodating but the use of agency staff negatively impacts residents with dementia and MH issues due to lack of familiarisation.
Cleaning standards were very poor but have slightly improved due to the pending CQC inspection.
The food has improved recently, however we feel there was not much focus on our mothers dietry needs. The laundry process requires ongoing attention, the home has lost multiple items clothing which we have had to replace and we were advised a labelling machine would be purchased but this has yet to transpire.
Reply from Kim Kelly, Bed Management at Hawthorne HouseThank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that your recent experience did not meet the standard we aim to provide.
We take all comments seriously and are committed to understanding any concerns that families raise. Our team has been actively engaged in supporting the situation and ensuring that the care provided is responsive and person centered.
If you would be open to discussing your experience further, we would welcome the opportunity to learn more. This helps us continue improving the service and make sure we are meeting the needs of those in our care.
Thank you again for your feedback.

Hawthorne House

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My son is happy and settled and is receiving the best care. He enjoys the food and the staff are very kind and friendly and always make me feel comfortable when I visit, the only issue we have encountered is that some of my sons clothing do not return from the laundry, we have now labelled all his clothes
and hopefully this should minimise this to happen again.
Reply from Kim Kelly, Bed Management at Hawthorne HouseThank you, Ann, for your kind words and for allowing us the privilege of caring for your loved one. We truly appreciate your honest review and for highlighting an area where we can improve. We acknowledge your feedback and will be addressing it to ensure we continue providing the highest level of care.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband has been a resident since December 2025. He is happy, contented and extremely well cared for. I have nothing but praise for all the staff at this nursing home. Every member of staff is caring, kind and empathetic to my husband and also to me (his wife).
This home is clean and bright. The
food is very good with choices. Drinks are distributed regularly as are comfort breaks for residents. My husband's ensuite room is excellent. His clothes are washed and dried as needed and with care.
There are regular activities. Reggie and Ronnie, the homes pet guinea pigs make regular appearances for the residents to pet if they wish.
All the staff are very knowledgeable and any questions I ask are answered promptly and honestly.
I can visit him whenever I want to.
I am really pleased my husband is being looked after at this home. I can leave, after my visits, knowing he is safe and being looked after with care and kindness.
Thank you all so much

My nan has been a resident of the Care Home since November 2024. She lived at home alone until her Dementia disease progressed to such a point we could no longer safely manage her at home.
Since that admittance she has settled really well and the care staff have always been extremely polite and helpful.
We've had a couple of instances where she's fallen, but the staff have been quick to react and deal with the situation, keeping the family updated through the whole process.
The care staff who are in the home on a daily basis, who we've had the pleasure of getting to know during our weekly visits are amazing. I say every time I'm in there that they're absolute angels - its not a job for the faint of heart and they carry it out with smiles on their faces.

Management highly responsive to suggestions for improvement and very proactive. A good 'can do' feeling. Care staff ratio to residents good. Care staff are kind, responsive and caring. All staff are friendly and chatty and welcoming. Residents are well cared for and treated with dignity and respect.
Activities offer is patchy but this is being addressed. On the whole the food is tasty and appetising and there is plenty of it. There is a developing family feel.

Willowbrook House

from Linda W (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 January 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother has been with you since November 2024, and during that time, I have only seen love, kindness and understanding given to her. As with all residents, I am sure they all have their different personalities, and the staff have an understanding of what she likes and dislikes; they allow the resident
to still have choices and opinions. As I am sure all families have felt, to finally admit that I was incapable of caring properly for my mother and needing to put her into care, was an upsetting thought. But I can live with the knowledge that she has the best care I could have wished for.

Mapleleaf is absolutely amazing they can't do enough for you. Mum has been there 5 years and I have never had one complaint about her care. Every single member of staff in that home makes you feel welcome and engages with residents. Mapleleaf is like our 2nd family. I know my mum get the best ever and
I don't have to worry about it. Mum is always clean and well presented and looked after. This home goes above and beyond.

Lovely care home for my aunty with Louis body dementia, always have a pleasant visit, can be a little noisy sometimes, but that's to be expected with dementia patients, but the carers are so very calm with the patients
Reply from Jane Flanagan, Bed Manager at The Moreton CentreThank you so much for your kind words. It is truly a privilege to care for your aunty, and we're so pleased to hear you have pleasant visits. Extremely caring staff, always welcoming and polite.
Pleasant room and communal rooms though unhygienic cracked floor and plug in shower (said to be on maintenance to-do list,)
More stimulation needed but what activities are provided have to cater for a wide ability range. However, activities worker
seeks to offer a varied programme and keep fit, music, animals etc are offered by other providers.
Garden could be improved with residents'help/input.
I'm not always notified of meetings.

My brother's been here for a few years, and any concerns I have raised have been dealt with professionally. I have to call out to the Manager in particular, her ownership and caring persona are commendable. All staff interact with my brother and seem to take an interest. I would recommend Maple Leaf.

I would not even consider kenneling my dog here. There's a handful of care staff who care, but the vast majority are non empathic, untrained unapproachable people, meant to be carers, they couldn't care less. The management are all ignorant unless it's going their way, then they're all over you. Almost
every time I visited my wife she would be sat in her recliner chair wet with urine. I asked one person, I won't even call them care staff, to change my wife and she said it's only 2 hours since we changed her and she's not due for a change for another 2 hours. I even found my wife, who I must add is of zero capacity and can't do anything for herself, in bed soaking wet at 10am and it was from during the night, some of the sheet was dried yellow. Please don't send anyone to this non caring care home
Reply from Tendai Masunda, Manager at Willowbrook HouseThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. Please be assured that all issues raised were fully reviewed and investigated, with close involvement and oversight from the relevant regulatory bodies and allocated social worker. Throughout this process, we remained committed to open communication and worked closely with you to ensure that all matters were addressed appropriately. The well-being of our residents is always our highest priority, and we continually strive to improve our services based on feedback. Since my meeting with senior staff, my partner has, so far, finally had his hair and nails cut, and dental treatment completed, and I was very pleased to have been carefully listened to on this occasion. An improvement

Do not send your relative to this care home. Relative has been in 5 days on discharge from hospital despite daily request to mobilise. They have left her in bed on her own. She is used to being in a care home with people engaging with her, not left to lie on a bed like a dog. We have been asking for
an inflating mattress to prevent sores, no one has taken responsibility always passing the buck. Despicable care.
