My mum was very happy in Carntyne. The staff were all exceptional,so friendly, supportive and helped mum in all ways to feel settled and content. She had a wonderful rapport with the staff and residents. The food was home cooked and the menu variable and accommodated individual likes and dislikes to
the best of their ability.I would have no hesitation in recommending Carntyne to any prospective resident and their families.

My mum lived in Carntyne for almost 10 years.
She sadly became ill in July but was looked after with great dignity and care by the wonderful staff of Carntyne.
My mum was very happy and settled in Carntyne and it felt very much like home to her. The staff are dedicated and hard working and the home
is well led by Dianne and Wendy.
Reply from Ashley Wright, Area Manager at Carntyne Residential Care HomeThank you so much for your very kind and heartfelt words Alison.

We are truly honoured that your mum called Carntyne home for almost 10 years. It means so much to us to hear that she felt happy, settled, and at home during her time with us.

We're especially grateful for your comments about the care and dignity shown to your mum during her illness. Supporting residents and their families at such times is incredibly important to us, and your words will mean a great deal to our team.

Your recognition of our staff, as well as Dianne and Wendy's leadership, is deeply appreciated. I will be sure to share your lovely feedback with them all.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Our thoughts are very much with you and your family.

With warmest wishes.

Well . . . ! Where to start . . . ? As an almost daily visitor to Carntyne Residential Care Home for the last eight months I have become quite familiar with the routine running of this, what I can only describe, as "Home from Home". The staff are fabulous; nothing is too much trouble and best of
all, their cheerful manner is infectious, allowing the residents to feel secure within a homely environment. I have visited many establishments in my lifetime and experienced mixed reactions from others who are critical of "old folks homes that smell awful and make them feel as if they don't wish to stay very long". NOT at Carntyne! (In fact, the only thing that you could possibly say is that the flavours emanating from the kitchen/dining-room are indicative of the wonderful meals provided for the residents).
Only last week I happened to come across several members of staff in Reception and I actually said that I'd be more than happy to live there when the time comes - and I meant it!
Reply from Ashley Wright, Area Manager at Carntyne Residential Care HomeThank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful words. It means a great deal to all of us.

The fact that you've visited so frequently over the past eight months really does speak volumes, and we're so grateful for the time you've spent with us during your visits and for the insight that brings to your comments.

We're delighted to hear that your experience has been such a positive one. Our team works very hard to create a warm, welcoming environment that genuinely feels like a "home from home," so it's especially rewarding to know this is felt.

I will ensure that your lovely feedback about our staff is shared with the whole team! And we're so pleased the kitchen aromas have made such a positive impression too! I can also vouch for this!!

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience-it means more than you know.

With very best wishes.

Mum has been living at Birch Hill for three years now and just celebrated her 102 birthday there. I visit two to three times a week and Mum is always happy, well presented and sitting quietly with a coffee and cake in the Conservatory or the TV lounge. At her age she doesn't always want to be at the
centre of activities but loves all the attention she gets from the staff who are incredibly helpful and thoughtful, and loves observing all the activities that other residents take part in. I always feel I can completely trust the staff to make sure Mum is comfortable , safe and happy. It's like belonging to a big family.
Reply from Jennifer Mackie, Care Centre Manager at Birch Hill Care HomeThank you for your lovely kind words. On behalf of all the staff I can honestly say that looking after mum is a joy. She is an absolute marvel.

When you enter Birch Hill you are always greeted with a smile. The whole atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The residents are happy and well cared for and there is no unpleasant smells as you walk around. There are plenty of rooms to sit and chat in, so you don't have to sit in front of the TV blaring
in the corner, which is the case in other homes. All in all the best place she could be away from her own home.
Reply from Jennifer Mackie, Care Centre Manager at Birch Hill Care HomeThank you for your lovely kind words. This is exactly the kind of atmosphere we desire to have. We have strong beliefs that we work in the residents home and it should be a home from home atmosphere. Our residents care and comfort are our first priority.

Our ex-neighbour is a resident in Birch Hill. We joined her for xmas lunch with the other residents. The staff had dressed the room for Christmas and the tree was beautiful. The dinner was delicious too. They had all done a great job to make the day special and a lovely local choir made it that bit
more special.
The whole team are very attentive, constantly checking on individuals and they all seem to be aware of their needs, and their likes and dislikes. The whole place is clean and has a lovely atmosphere.

My mother has been a very happy and settled resident for over three years . The care and attention to her needs has never faltered throughout this time which is such a credit to the team at Birch Hill , not underestimating the seamless changes which have occurred in this time.
From the moment you
arrive all the staff do there utmost to make the time spent with your relative as special as they can , everyone has their own way of enjoying time there , and no request is to much trouble.
It's impossible to highlight a department or individual as it always feels like visiting one big happy family.

My Mum was very apprehensive about residential care and it took a lot of persuasion to get her to try Carntyne. On arrival she was warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. In less than a week she was settled and was telling all the family how kind and lovely everyone at Carntyne is. The staff are
incredibly caring and attentive, there are a wide range of well organised activities and there's a great variety of home cooked food which Mum tells us is very tasty! The home also has beautiful gardens and is in a great location - right in the centre of Hexham. I can highly recommend Carntyne Care Home.

Birch Hill has a really warm and friendly atmosphere. Staff are always willing to help and to go that extra mile. The food is excellent and the residents are so well cared for. I have visited several times over the past year, but I will focus on my latest visit in October 2025. From arriving at the
front door, all staff I met were welcoming and helpful. I was offered a coffee and biscuits while visiting Mum, and when she needed help we used the call button and someone came to assist very willingly and with lots of empathy and care. Mum always looks well dressed and cared for, and is given plenty of choices for meals.
