My father was admitted to Melrose in July for respite care for two weeks and as a result of the exceptional kindness and care provided he decided he wanted to make Melrose his home. Since being there he has thrived in every way, he participates in the very varied social and therapeutic activities
,enjoys the home cooked food and has his care provided by kind and competent care and nursing staff .Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff who all go that extra mile for the residents and their visitors. The communication via the Manager is again exceptional with regular weekly updates and Zoom meetings for family members who are not able to visit regularly. I highly recommend Melrose Nursing Home, as someone who has worked in this sector, this is by far the most outstanding Home I have encountered.

My dad moved to Melrose after a long stay in hospital and temporary care. Since moving here, we have seen such an improvement in his wellbeing. He is now more active and generally happier, I believe this is due to the care and kindness of the staff here. Lots of the staff have worked here for a number
of years which I think says alot. The place has such a homely feel and my dad says the food is good too!

The community at Melrose (carers, nurses and managers) have shown consistent kindness and care to my elderly mother. They are always patient and cheerful with her which makes a huge difference to her experience of life with Alzheimer's, and they have responded promptly to any concerns we have raised.
This
has not been an easy journey for her or for the family, but we have always felt strongly supported and understood by all the staff at Melrose.

My Dad has been at Melrose for 5 years and we have been very happy with the care he has received throughout that time. The home has a real family feel with very caring staff who know each resident well, treating them with dignity and respect. A variety of activities are provided throughout the week
including outside visitors coming in. The home is well managed and communication with the home is easy. Nothing is ever too much trouble.

My 102 year old mother has been a resident at Melrose for a number of years. Initially we thought it would be challenging to move her into a nursing home since she was a fiercely independent woman, but the staff played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition.
Melrose employees handle this very
difficult job with professionalism, patience, kindness and care. Over the years, my mother has been able to make friends because to a low staff turnover and she now considers it as her home. Excellent communication is maintained, not just with my mother but also with her family.

My mum was very poorly when she moved to Melrose, but has absolutely thrived since living there.
The staff are amazingly kind and caring, and the whole ethos of the home is about improving outcomes for residents.
Fun and engaging activities are available each day, and the standard of food is excellent.
Would not hesitate to recommend.

My mum has been a resident since September 2025 and I have been constantly impressed by the care she receives. All of the staff know and seem to genuinely care for her. They do all they can to meet her individual needs. The team organise events and activities tailored for the residents. They welcome
us warmly when we visit. When mum was more mobile, they would get her ready for us taking her out.
The home aims to have a family feel and I would say they achieve that. I would thoroughly recommend the home for a family member. I have thought about moving in myself!

The permanent staff do an exceptional job of providing kind, compassionate, thoughtful care. Their approach to our mother with bad dementia managed to bring out the best in her, and we saw some of her old spark. This was due to the personalised, individual care and activities they undertook with her;
unfortunately, the accommodation they have to work in is very poor. The rooms are cramped, poorly maintained, and there is limited public space; it is generally cramped. It is cleaned diligently, but cleanliness is difficult with such an old building. There is little privacy for residents and their visitors. The permanent staff are, without exception, excellent, but some of the 'bank' nurses we met at the weekend were less so. They did not seem to understand the concept of end of life care - they sure did not wear gloves to!

Lovely spacious room, carers are very attentive. We were recently invited to attend the summer fayre, which was a lovely occasion. My brother has built up a great relationship with his carers; they seem to be getting the best out of him.

Overall, I am very pleased with my husband's care at Willett Lodge. The staff are all lovely and really look after him. I've been very impressed with the variety of activities the residents can get involved in and how engaging they are made.
I would recommend the home.

The nurses and staff have been very helpful, kind and friendly. They keep me up to date with his health and resolve any problems. His room is quiet, clean and warm and he is kept comfortable. Plenty of nutritious food and drink is provided and they even made him a special birthday cake, which he enjoyed.
The management team have been very helpful, assisting me with things I am not familiar with and keeping me informed about my husband and passing on messages when I have been unable to visit due to ill health. My experience of Willet Lodge Nursing Home has been a pleasant one.

The staff at Melrose are 2nd to none. They are always friendly, attentive, and caring, they treat the residents like members of the family. Many have been working there for several years, so it feels more like a family environment. The home isn't a purpose-built facility, so it isn't like a hotel where
all the rooms are exactly the same. It has character and does feel like home from home.

Finding the right home is always challenging, but working in this field myself, it was much easier. As having worked at Melrose many years ago, I already had a feel. It's such a homely environment, lovely staff, and plenty of activities to be entertained by. This was an important aspect for me and Mum.
It's lovely garden, and you always feel welcome. I would recommend it to others.

My wife has been here for 11 weeks having palliative care for "end of life".
The home is very good, and although she is in a room, ensuite on the first floor, and there is a lift, she never leaves her room. This is due to her extreme frailty.

My Mum moved to this home in December and I was concerned about how she would be, as she doesn't respond well to changes. The manager and the staff went above and beyond to make her feel welcome and help her settle in and ease her extreme anxieties. My Mum has complex needs and can be extremely demanding
and particular and the staff have been so accommodating, changing their routines to ensure she gets the items she wants at the times she wants them! The staff are always welcoming to me and my family when we visit and nothing is ever too much trouble and we feel very well cared for. Whenever I call the home, regardless of what time it is or who I speak to, they can always provide me with a thorough update on Mum. As my Mum refuses to take part in the activities, the staff make sure they spend time with her and are always incredibly patient with her. The manager is extremely knowledgeable about both dementia and mental health and her background in both of these areas has been invaluable to me.

My dad has been a resident for about 18 months. He had been to a few other care homes before Willett Lodge and we had no feeling his needs were being met. But since coming to Willett Lodge he has been so much happier. The carers do many activities with the residents. Singers and dancing and a therapy
dog come in regularly which the residents love. They also do lots of family get-togethers to celebrate Christmas, the summer time and any other things that come up which need to be celebrated like the King's Coronation. The care home put on great entertainment for the events. My dad is well looked after and I highly recommend this care home.

The final ten months of my husband's life were, without question, vastly improved because of the dedicated and exceptional care from the wonderful team at Willett Lodge. Despite having dementia my husband quickly settled into the homely, warm and happy environment which helped him feel incredibly safe,
content and brought back his old sparkle. He was treated as a family member, not a patient, and thoroughly enjoyed the varied activities and companionship of both fellow residents and staff alike. Delicious home-cooked meals around the dining table made food enjoyable and, despite having a special diet, he was always very well catered for.
The friendly, relaxed atmosphere made visits a pleasure and helped create so many happy memories to cherish, for which I and my family are truly grateful. The professionalism and genuine commitment really instil confidence, which is a godsend at such a difficult time. I can't thank the manager and all her superb staff enough.
